My parents has oregano growing in there garden and for years they have supplied me with dry crushed oregano, my father passed 5 years ago and my mother 1 month ago. I didn't think to ask either of them on how - when to cut-dry and crush the oregano so your video is invaluable to me, especially the tip to store it in the fridge . Thank you Sir !
I used this method last year and it turned out so amazing I'm here watching again and brushing up because I'm about to do it again with this year's crop. Thank you!
Thank you for your tutorial. It is the same process that my Greek friends showed me on how to harvest the leaves for cooking, and the seeds to expand the garden. A job well done. This reinforces me with what I was taught.
i would like what dishes you make with the flowers. I enjoy learning from wise people who understand and appreciates the value of good wholesome food. Thank you!!!
I love this ❤ I grew up in Pennsylvania with a friend whose Italian grandmother would cook authentic, delicious Italian meals. Her accent was much like yours, but not as good. This is great information! I harvested my oregano yesterday. I didn't know what to do with the flowers and now I know how to dry & store it. Thank you!
I just love the way he explain things. I went to the Farmers and a lady I spoke has a ton of Oregano plants in her garden so now I know how to pick them, keep the flowers and dry them. I will probably use my dehydrator to dry them faster instead of direct sunlight. 🤓 ❤ 👍👍 👁
Thank you so much for this precious information Pasquale. I threw my Oregano flowers last year. This year I’m gonna process them exactly the way you showed. Much love from Denmark 🙂🙏
WOW! I almost disposed off my Oregano clippings yesterday. Someone told me it’s a herb. I left the handful of Oregano clippings under shed and decided to check it out in YT. Lo & behold I came to this video and a few others. I’m going to clean up the clippings and hang them to dry and do exactly as this lovely uncle has demonstrated. From now on, no more ‘throwing into the bin’ and I’m going to propagate what I hv in my backyard cos they are so easy to grow. Thank you so much uncle. Now a fan of Oregano.
Hey young Man. I really love your videos. I’m in NC. And growing a garden and I’m growing Oregano. Cilantro. Basil. Mint. Parsley. And was trying to find out how to process and save. U re the Man. Thank u
Fantastic! I'm growing oregano this year for the first time and I was so amazed at how much it has grown. Was wondering what I was going to do with all of it and how I was going to keep it...Now, I know. Thank you so much for this how to. Will have to go buy some more mason gars.
Pasquale, this was beautiful. I was about to cut my oregano because it's growing so much, but now I will wait for the flowers and then harvest. Grazie Mille.
Great video and just in time for my oregano. I was going to clip all the flowers off the top. I can’t wait to try drying my oregano this way. I love your videos, you remind me of my grandfather 😘
Thank you Pascual for sharing your wonderful method of how to dry and preserve oregano!! I know now how to save my oregano from my garden! God bless you.
I rather pick the Oregano when there are no flowers on it as the flowers means its gone to seed and leaving them will ensure more oregano will grow. As per your video, the one without the flower is the best one and I agree. I also hung it up outside under a veranda instead of moving it all the time. Thank you, its good to see how other Italians in the world do this.
Great video and perfect timing! I was wondering about using the flowers. I will be using for Bolognese lasagne in celebrating my son’s 1st birthday this weekend! Grazie!
Man I just found your channel and im inlove with you!!!! You remind me of my great grandfather! Ahhh I miss him! You both sound the same, he came over to America on a boat and then changed their last name to Gardone. I'll be watching you now fpr ever!!!
thank u so much for the video. There are so many showing how to grow but I had no idea what to do with them so they look like what I get in a jar at the store... now I know.
I throw away the flowers. I would love to see a video of what you can make with that. I had a lot of oregano once, it grew into the lawn. Every time i mowed the lawn i smelt pizza lol. My friend has the same problem with mint now in his back yard. Smells good though when you mow the lawn.
alibabafurball Oh my that sounds like a wonderful problem. I wish my grass weeds were oregano and mint. I’d love to live next door! How do you think that happened? Do you live up north or the south? I guess it would grow back every year if you live up north? Fascinating.
The oregano just spread year after year like mt friends mint did. I think the roots gave more plants with the seeds helping out as well with the oregano. This is north in Canada.
All Gone it happens because mint spreads by rhizomes under ground along with above ground foliage and can easily over winter when planted in the ground. Oregano and other similar plants (like Thyme) can grow roots from any point of the stem. So when you cut the plant each stem can become a new plant that will develop roots.
@@all-gone Mine comes back every year. I need to cut it to two inches now that is October. Not sure. My oregano and mint have grown together and my momma bunny uses it every year to dig her nursery! 🐰🐇🌾🌿
Oh my goodness, I think that was oregano growing in our yard! I grew up in Colonia, NJ and we always had gardens and I remember seeing plants like these. I thought they were pretty weeds! I wonder if my Dad knew, we never harvested. Wow, thanks for this video!
Hey food network this adorable man is what you should be giving a show too forget Rachael Ray and bobby flay they got nothing on this treasure of a man who knows so much and his knowledge compared to Rachael and Bobby is huge because this man knows his spices and food not to mention his stories when doing his videos are riches that must be shared along with his great knowledge of food and spices ❤️❤️ I would buy his oregano if he had a brand .. absolutely!
Thank you, I've just harvested my oregano, and it is nearly dry now.. I've ordered my outdoor pizza oven (Alfresco chef Roma) and will be thinking of you when I sprinkle my oregano LOL..
"Don't worry about it", sounds so refreshing from an Italian, wish he was my neighbor so much wisdom
My parents has oregano growing in there garden and for years they have supplied me with dry crushed oregano, my father passed 5 years ago and my mother 1 month ago. Where can I get the seeds ❤
You're a real treasure to the cooking world. 👍🏽
I never knew you could use the flowers or store the oregano in the fridge. Thanks for the gardening lesson. P.ease do more videos like this. 😊
I think the seeds fall off as he hangs them and dry them ☺️
I need to hang out & dry some oregano with Pasquale👍 just to listen to him talk! Priceless 🤝
Wow...never knew I could use the flower! Thank you, Pasqual! What a blessing you are to all of us, new gardeners!
I used this method last year and it turned out so amazing I'm here watching again and brushing up because I'm about to do it again with this year's crop. Thank you!
So you only harvest at the end of summer, once per year?
You got to trust a man like this, he is speaking from his heart. I did not know about "the flowers"
Me either. I just bought an oregano plant to grow and needed to know how to dry it. Glad I found an Italian that knows these things. He’s precious!
@@SwtTrisha8 but no flowers why ?
Thank you for your tutorial. It is the same process that my Greek friends showed me on how to harvest the leaves for cooking, and the seeds to expand the garden. A job well done. This reinforces me with what I was taught.
Thank you for sharing this. Listening to your accent makes it even more enjoyable. I have tons of oregano in my garden to harvest and this helped me.
Thank you! You remind me of my parents who from Greece. They bring home oregano from the mountains.
i would like what dishes you make with the flowers. I enjoy learning from wise people who understand and appreciates the value of good wholesome food. Thank you!!!
I also want to ask what dishes do you make with the flowers?

How do you harvest for the fall? Cut to two inches?

Grazie mille, Pasquale! I have origano in my garden but I wasn’t sure the best way to harvest. I also didn’t know about the fiori!

Its best to grow most herbs in dedicated containers or closed off areas. They are edible, hardy, weeds.
