Music by: Cliff Martinez
Poem by: Dylan Thomas
And death shall have no dominion.
Dead men naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean
and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea
they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.
And death shall have no dominion.
Under the windings of the sea
They lying long shall not die windily;
Twisting on racks when sinews give way,
Strapped to a wheel, yet they shall not break;
Faith in their hands shall snap in two,
And the unicorn evils run them through;
Split all ends up they shan't crack;
And death shall have no dominion.
And death shall have no dominion.
No more may gulls cry at their ears
Or waves break loud on the seashores;
Where blew a flower may a flower no more
Lift its head to the blows of the rain;
Though they be mad and dead as nails,
Heads of the characters hammer through daisies;
Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion.
This film was the reason I fell in love with Dylan Thomas
Didn't he write the poem used in Interstellar too?
Any reason to love Thomas is a great reason?
Dude same!
Me too👍
This film was brilliant in the cinema, I saw it 19 years ago on a Sunday evening, tired after the night before, so mellow and trippy . Brilliant soundtrack too.
what I would give to have viewed this one in theatres, was too young & stupid to have known but alas it made its way to me eventually & its effect is ethereal just like the films plot.since I watch it yearly I have made the same choice as kelvin to stay with solaris.
There are some things that we can’t quantify with words or pictures… The feeling from a time or an experience or a sound… I’m glad you saw this that day. I’m glad you went that day.
It was a great film to see in a theater. It was an experience

Thanks for posting this. I just love this poem and wish more renditions were on UA-cam.
What a lovely little work of art you made for us. ❤ Thank you.
Oh, thank you very much! :)
I came back for you 😢
Despite the American accent, this is a nice rendition better than many more portentous readings. The film is marvelous, I've watched it over and over.
Tymbus it is.... its one of those freaky hollywood departures into investigation of the afterlife etc, like the matrix and american beauty.
Wonderful film!
"Solaris" and Dylan Thomas...wjat combination...
Izvrstan film, nažalost nikad nisam imao prilike pogledati ga sa nekim ko ga razumije
Juste incroyable et magnifique, un de mes films préférés,❤
un de mes favoris aussi 🙂
Stanisław Lem disliked this video.
Well thats curious, jokes aside, because Lem actually was quite positively surprised with Soderberghs Solaris.
Polish press had questioned Lem on that film, and he told in a short statement that " *Soderbergh created a pretty nice piece of artistic cinema, a hard nut to crack for todays audiences, fed by usual Hollywood pulp* ".
+mstuj Hey your 'Kanye West - Stronger (instrumental, no pauses)' got copyright claimed and it was my favourite video by you. Is there anything that can be done about this, because I didn't download the song from your channel, and I really want to hear it again. Thanks.

Burton overplayed !!! hmm listen to the voice
Take it easy. :) It´s OK. Nothing against Burton. Everyone has different tastes.
I love the reading by Rutger Hauer at the end of omega doom
I can not find it anywhere to listen it.
mstuj I know right! I've found one version but it has Russian translation over the top so its ruined. I just remember it from watching the movie years ago. It's the best one I've heard. May have to buy the movie 😃
True, I` ve found the russian version too and that`s all. Nevermind. Maybe someday somewhere in late TV program . . . . :)
This clearly renders as a semi-painful memory...Richard Burton was more biblical in gravitas, akin to it's source material. Try the track in music, by Ontario Blue adapting the same thread but sinister...
Thanks❤❤
You're welcome
this track is playing slightly to fast
When talking about Dylan Thomas's poems and sci-fi movies there is not doubt that Michael Cain did far better job with "Don't go gentle in to that good night" in "Interstellar".And I am sure Lem would like that movie.
I would rather say „also a good“ than „far better“ job. ;) But Michael Caine is a top class anyway. And Interstellar too. :)
"Do not go gentle into that good night"
Music name please?
Cliff Martinez - Death Shall Have No Dominion
Why was she holding that doorknob?
If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite
@@Edward-6909therefore there wouldn’t be any perception at all nor conscience, only eternity
listen to Richard Burton read this ....this isn't in the same league dire version
Thanks. I didn't know the Burton's version. But it sounds a little bit overplayed to me. Clooney is more civilian. And the Solaris version is also good for the music background.
Agreed. Burton has a great voice, but I do not like his reading of the poem, way too overplayed. Clooney sounds..... er... I don't know what word to use here to describe beyond 'real'.
To dzieło Stanisława Lema, jest krzykiem przeciw aborcji..planeta wskrzesza zmarłych...głowny bochater sspotyka swego nienarodzonrgo syna!!
