Absolutely true - will never ever be anything like PrimeTime Sports. Those round tables with Shannon and Arash Madani were just priceless. Sad but true that all good things must come to an end. Wishing both Shanny and BobCat the best.
You will be missed, John. I thought you were a wonderful foil for Bob. You offered a highly knowledgeable and calming influence to the show. Had great opinions and points of view that (I thought) hugely improved the podcasts (and the broadcasts back when). And - of course - you fantastically carried the show during Bob's recovery. ☮
Sad to see you leave, John. Been a huge fan of yours since the Sportsnet days and from PTS with Bob and of course this podcast. You were truly a champ during Bob's recovery. I hope you come on the podcast to tell everyone what your new gig will be. That said, I hope Bob's new permanent co-host will be Richard Deitsch, who is a regular guest but it would be nice to permanently reunite the two from PTS days.
Congrats John on a great job with Bob's podcast ! You are a class act through & through & an amazing friend to Bob helping him through a most difficult time. All the best to you with your new projects !
Good luck, Mr Shannon. Thanks for the memories as the song says, you have been great. Onward, Bob, as another song says "Here we are now, entertain us."
You will be missed John. Have always enjoyed your thoughts and insights over the years on TV, Radio and Podcasts. Look forward to hearing about your next ventures.
Wow, this is big news. Bobcat had all the best sports guys by his side over the decades, and for me, John Shannon was the best. What a duo. Part of the reason Bob is/was so great is because he didnt have stiffs by his side so he could come off superior. Bob had guys by his side who might have been more entertaining, maybe more experienced in areas, more intelligent (dare I say lol) and guys who had already made a name for themselves. For me that was part of the genius of Bob. He brought in the best to give us an outstanding sports talk show. Ego in check, never felt threatened. These 2 guys gave us a ton of great sports talk over such a long period of time and showed a quality never to be duplicated, and thats a fact. There will never be another Bob McCown on our radio for sports talk in Canada and John Shannon, what can we say? As a fan, I dont think Ive ever seen a more loyal, professional and intelligent guy in that business. John always seemed like a guy you could trust and count on. I think he proved that, without having to, working with Bob for all the years. Good luck John.
John, you and Bob have been excellent partners, commentators, and analysts. John, I did not know really anything about your career until you joined Bob. From this podcast I learned how much you know about the world of sports in general (a ton), and, how gifted you are in communicating what you know (insightful, candid, humourous). Thanks for a great ride. All the best to you in your varied endeavours!! 👏👏👏👏
I came to Toronto in 1993 and immediately i learned that Bob was different. In the late 90's all the way to around 2018 prime time sports was on my commute home. I loved that Bob didnt suck up to the Leafs like most broadcasters here and that he didnt appear to take bullshit The Fan is weaker, not required listening anymore. Hope Bob can continue to do the podcast
Where's Bob and the podcast? It's been months? Bob to me is Toronto sports. I came to Toronto in 1993 and listened to him in the afternoon those days... I remember him doing a commercial with Ricky Henderson. After a morning slot he was required listening on the commute home. Always above the silliness of Maple Leaf worship and with an understanding of Toronto's place in North American sport I hope this isn't the end.
A: It's good to see Bob almost back to his old self and able to take the reins again BUT B: To see a ICON like John Shannon not be a part of The Bob McGown ___________ is a loss and will be missed. C: Without John being a part of any of the Bob McGown many renditions of his show will be felt by all fans and will sorely be missed Thanks John for the good run and here is hoping Bob can keep it going. Personally only watch baseball stuff but I am sure others watch the less important sports.
I used to watch the 3-hour radio show on Rogers and I watched the whole thing and I'd relisten to it again. Bob just has an incredible talent he has an amazing voice, he has great tone voice inflection and he just entices the audience the way he fleshes apart topics. No one does it like him and to this day I'm not really interested in any other sports podcast I think you ruined it for me Bob with your talent.
Damn old bobcat has lost some weight. Remember when I was always laid off in the 2000s watching his show prime time sports in the middle of the day on sports net because I had nothing better to do . Good old days Godspeed gentleman
Wow. I stopped listening for a while, didn't find out until now Bob has suffered a couple of strokes. Glad to hear that you are back Bobcat, sad to hear John is leaving. Please make amends with Stephen Brunt.
It's 'opening night' for the NHL. And no Bob McCowan podcasts. Feels strange - not in a good way. I hope you find a replacement for the (quietly) legendary John Shannon soon. Heck, I'll do it for nothing if it will help get things started sooner. I am nobody. Absolutely nobody. But I have followed Bob's broadcasts since he was doing them from Vegas. And I love sports. Just sayin'... ☮
John will surely be missed on the show. I think it's time for Bob and Stephen Brunt to bury the hatchet. The Tim and Sid show wasn't the same without Sid. Primetime, Bob McCown was never the same without Stephen Brunt.
That was a little uncomfortable to watch. Wondering what prompted the sudden divorce. Always appreciated Shannon’s measured perspective. Provided good balance. Hoping Richard Deitsch isn’t the replacement. He seems knowledgeable but very difficult to listen to. Every sentence is littered with filler words such as “like”.
Shannon is going to Amazon to help produce the hockey on Monday nights. Feel bad for Bob given his recent health struggles. Hope he continues the show.
As much as you sometimes annoyed me when you would interrupt guests mid-sentence, your insights and contributions will be dearly missed. I strongly recommend retirement - its the best career move anyone can make.
John had to go. Talked way too much. Mr know it all. Glad he’s gone. The absolute best pair was Bob with Stephen and then Bob with Jim Kelly RIP and then Bob with Damien Cox.
The Fan has not been the same since both of you left. Like old friends that I havent heard or seen in a long time. All the best.
I Agree
Fan is trash radio now. Bunch of kids spewing nonsense

Best of luck John. And you’re sounding great Bob. Keep the show going.
You're a great voice Shannon, best of luck!
It’s always been my pleasure gentlemen. Thank you
I'll miss John but am so glad that Bob is still going to carry on with the show. Always has been my go to for sports insight for decades now.
Same here. The Fan 590 has never been the same without these 2. Enjoyed Shannon on this podcast. Good luck to him.

John Shannon. drive the show. I'd be surprised if it returns.
At some point you gotta lay now the mic. 🎙️
Oh 😢 it’s been a beautiful ride - always a fan of PTS & the current podcast.
Thank you for your work Mr. Shannon.

Richard would be amazing to slide in with Bob full time so let's hope so!
Listening to you guys is like sitting and talking sports with friends. Best of luck going forward, John, and thank you to both you and Bobcat.
All the best...never missed a show.
Congrats John on a great job with Bob's podcast ! You are a class act through & through & an amazing friend to Bob helping him through a most difficult time. All the best to you with your new projects !
I will miss you John. I wish you the best for your future projects.
Thank you John Shannon.
Sad news, but good days ahead for all let's hope!
Good luck, Mr Shannon. Thanks for the memories as the song says, you have been great.

Will miss your intelligent and balanced discussion, John!

Thanks for the podcast gents - one of my must listens. Shannon best of luck with your new chapter!
Best of luck John, it was great watching you all these years.
Thanks Shannon for all the great sports talk over the years, especially holding the fort down so the Bobcat could recover. All good things...

Bob looks and sounds night and day better than he did a few months ago. Thats awesome to see.
Great stuff guys!
Take care John, and all the best going forward.
Love you both… don’t always agree… but respect your voices

Both John and Bob are the best in the business!
Best of luck John! I love that you still hang my Sidney Crosby print behind you in your shots.
I will miss this great duo for sure. Just where can I watch full videos of the podcast? (might have to subscribe somewere and I will be OK with that)
Bob will always have great programs because only the cream of the crop like John want to work with him bringing you the best of the best.

A trooper! You carried the flag honourably John.
I am glad you decided to move on to something else. Keep up the great work, John. Wow, I can't believe this program has been running for four years.
No one made more of their limited journalistic ability than Shannon. I remember his early days as chief spokesperson for MLSE.
I hope Shannon starts up his own podcast. I would listen to both!

John and Bob have been my go to for intelligent dialogue on sports....Bob often the Ying to Bob's yang to great effect 😢
Think John has had a LOT to deal with over the years with the podcast.
Thanks John for Being Bob's side kick the last few years....happy something ...(Not retirement)
It’s gonna be hard not having John alongside Bob…my guess is that Richard Deitsch will come onboard to take his place! 😉
That sucks! God speed John
I'll miss all that miqtoast, middle of the road, never take a side or stance, excuse peddling vanilla word salad from him.
Is this podcast finished?
That's kind of sad.
Enjoy their take on sports.
Won’t be the same
this is sad... we can't have nice things in Toronto.
Thanks John. Is Richard taking your place?
John will surely be missed on the show.
I think it's time for Bob and Stephen Brunt to bury the hatchet.

Primetime, Bob McCown was never the same without Stephen Brunt.
John shhhh annon as Bob would say. Good luck John.
Looks like John Shannon might be helping out with the Amazon Monday Night Hockey Broadcasts.
100% this is what is happening & for good money too!!
Time waits for no one……
This makes me sad
Well done John Shannon. A change in lifestyle from podcasting?

@@BonnieLukacsknew it was about money something Bob is no longer motivated by.
WHAT A LOSS YOU GUYS AND RICHARD AND OTHERS WERE TO SPORSTNET...IT IS AWFUL NOW...AWFUL
Still have no clue why the Fan turfed both guys, big mistake they made

Ol' Windbag
There is no money in podcasting, especially in Canada. This is probably why he had to leave as the reward-to-effort ratio isn't worth it.
John, Bernie Smilovitz, Detroit. Made sports more enjoyable.
Perhaps that will mean less hockey talk.
Shannon got cancelled for feelin' up Bob.
this is the truth and about time someone called it out
Good luck big John!! You have been awesome!!!
Great, now we get Richard “woke” D.
I hope he doesn’t become new cohost
Going to miss John and Bob together

No reason to listen to the podcast anymore, sorry to say.
