I keep getting an error message that says"some void forms of this family do not cut anything and will be deleted. To make a void form cut something else use the cut geometry tool."
You can always paint the inside of the void if you need a different finish showing. There is no way that I know of to show a plan section of the cut with layers correctly. I
@@MSmithWorkShop Thank you for responding. I already tried painting with materials but the problem I have is when I'm going to calculate the cost it will not consider that painted part right? because it has no thickness!!
Thank you but it doesn't work for me, after I do the successful final cut and hit the checkmark, I am getting the 'Geometry doesn't cut anything' error and my void disappears.
funny. 8 months later. I was just having the same issue. So when making the solid into a void the lines become orange. If you finish the void now it will give you an error but if you do the geometry cut before closing the void it will cut into the wall and you will have your cut in the wall.
Oh my hell. I have been trying to figure out how to cut a wall sweep that is protruding through my roof for HOURS. Revit's proprietary information about voids assumes you are using voids within a family, and isn't even remotely helpful. Thank you. Maybe I will actually be able to complete this assignment now...
It is sometimes difficult to grab the void/s in the cut option. Sometime you have to hover around the area, often times near the edges of the voids, to get the selection. Also, make sure you are in the Component Family and not the Project. You must be in the Component Family to cut the voids out of the wall. You should have a green Tab that says: Modify|something. If you don't then you will have to grab the voids and select: Edit in Place, and then cut the voids. Good luck.
Great video and straight to the point. Excellent little lesson! And still relavent 6 years later!
Super helpful. Thanks. So much easier than creating a component and loading it into the project. I love being able to edit the cutouts in place.
Thank you. Super helpful.
This video was really helpful. Thank You!!
Excellent tutorials, from the UK !
Glad it was helpful.

This was Extremely helpful!!! Thanks ! From South Africa
Great explanation! It’s ridiculous that we need a number of steps to cut voids.
Thank you so much and thank you Jesus for giving you the gift to give clear instructions!
thank you for your time and your useful video.

I am one of your followers now.
Teri
Thanks Teri, glad it helped!
How about showing us how to do voids that are not the same size front and back…eg sloped sill niche?
What if I had a layered wall?? When I cut the void from the wall, the materials will be cut too! what can I do to avoid that??

All i get is: Can't regenerate Family Walls 1. Edit Family to modify it??
It sounds like you are using a loadable family vs the system wall family. If you edit the family does it open in a separate window?
Thanks
