@@thetimeteller Jory I am huge fan of yours, but I have to totally disagree with you on the opening on this VLOG claiming the referencing GP is a homage brand, you need to do some more research on this subject before making statements such as this as you are wrong on this occassion...call me bias as I am a collector of GP, despite what everyone thinks of them, yes thet depreciate, but I buy them well & I have nearly every significant piece in my collection (some of them I have multiple of as yes you can buy them well) & my favourite is the Constant Escapement LM which I have nearly every model. I 100% sure if you could review some pieces in my collection yoi would have a completely different view & opinion. And I believe you would understand why I love the brand so much, as watch enthusiasts we tend to be passionate about the same things. All my respect as always TT Kind Rgds James
I was given a Girard-Perregaux watch when I graduated 8 th grade in 1946. It is just a plain gold watch with my name engraved on it. I found a watchmaker who got it running for me and I gave it to my daughter. She loves it and wears it on special occasions.
This video feels like you did just 10 seconds of research on Girard Perregaux. I prefer my Laureato over the RO any day. GPs has other amazing watches too. Top 5 of all brands for sure!
yeah... I was thinking the same. I was researching GP and stumbled onto THIS. I have no idea why I opened his videos, he just loves ranting. I can understand that, easy way to get some free clicks/views, but in essence it's open underestimating and derogation of his audience. He has more videos like this on some other brands, I remember now. Jesus... I should stay away from this
I’ve been aware of Girard Perregaux for decades and I think they are probably the most underrated of all brands. They are a _Manufacture_ with very little street cred. How does that even happen? One day people will catch on. Meanwhile, some of us are in on the joke…😉
I own a vintage GP Sea Hawk from the 1960s. I am really happy with it and proud to have it on my wrist.
For the love of God! The Laureato is almost 40 years old!!!
46 to be exact
TT what do you mean by GP being a homage company, as I am perplexed by that being a serious collector of the brand for the past 10 years & knowing the brands history? I have actually visited to the factory many times, I collected my first GP Constant Escapement LM back in 2013 (now having 6 of them, about to purchase my 7th). Did you see the watch they just released a few days ago, nothing homage about it?
i believe they are underrated highly decorated elegant watches.
Should Patek Philippe and vacheron constantin also move away from their “Royal Oakesque” ways? Because their nautilus and overseas watches (respectively) came years after GP was already manufacturing the Laureato. Which was the second watch to come out right after the Royal Oak.
3rd the baume et mercier Riviera was first only a year after.
How could you say that GP is an homage company? The Laureato is a design of its own.
Interesting you knew exactly which watch I was referring to though. 🤔
@@thetimeteller because the whole world is talking about it. I don't live in a cave.
@@thetimeteller there are similarities but GP Laureato is not an homage.
@@thetimeteller you really don’t understand that the 1970s was all about that look and feel. Royal oak, laureato, nautilus ingenuer, overseas.
If anything the nautilus is a homage to the royal oak. Same designer, maritime theme, octagon bezel (yes, the 5710 is octagonal$, same JLC movement.
So grow up a bit and get your research right.
And please stop screaming in your videos.
@@thetimetellerinteresting you dont say that about the PP nautilus? That came after this watch, is that fine since Genta designed both? How does that work?
Hi
GP is in my opinion still a great watch . I found out that just the last couple of months watch 'screamers' on the internet are trying to put down . Reason i don't know . I think maybe because they listen to eachother without having a personal opninion. The champion is Paul Pluta , he screams about a lot . In his opininion Patek , Rolex are the brands to have . It's true they keep their value because of shortage and quality but Girard Perregaux is quality wise equal .
Yes i own a couple of them . A Seahawk pro rose gold tourbillon . A WWTC in platinum with platinum bracelet and a day date Richeville in rose gold . I do own more important watches but the first 2 GP's are my favourite .
From a safety view , when you go restaurant or other night time venue wearing a Rolex or Patek you will be spotted by everybody around you and tel calls will be made to make sure you come home without your watch and in a worse case even have to visit a hospital what i hope will not happen to anybody out there .
Have a great holiday all.🌻🌞😘🌞🌻
I have a 68 Sea Hawk that my dad gave me, he got it when he was around 13 and it still works and looks great it's honestly one of my favorite watches in my collection.
Have recently found a girard in my aunt who passed away collection. Has an engraving with the date 5-7-42 it isn't a big watch and is pretty small inside and has a female style look to it. But is important to me as I was from a family member who helped raise me and truly loved and respected me truly. So means more than money to me and helps tell a story about her.
I have a GP, gyro, date, that belonged to my father. He bought it around 1966 for $90.00 in Glendale, CA. The case is stainless
steel, and it has a black dial. The band is faceted stainless links. It's a beautiful watch, and in perfect condition. Old-timer watchmaker friend told me GP is one of the best movements.
Welcome back 2008, oh you brought more Dubstep..... that's ... so kind of you.
I’ve got a couple of vintage GPs in my collection, a very underrated brand.
I own a GP Seahawk 2 pro diver 49950. A 1000m WR tank. If you don't like power reserve indicators, steer clear as it has a very prominent one. Darth Vader black and crazy strong lume.
I have the 49960 in Cobalt Blue in steel with the steel bracelet and your right. It’s a beast!
I have several GP Sea Hawks in my collection as well, great dive watches...I am a huge GP enthusiast & collector.
What watches are gp making homages of???? Every watch seems unique enough to me
The laureato is a homage of the royal oak. Which is a unique situation because it was originally made back in the 70's I believe..back before the royal oak was what it is today. Fast forward to the resurgence of the royal oak today and they "re-issue" the laureato. If anyone gets a pass..its GP. As for their other models..they are absolutely beautifully done and extremely under rated
neil2286 i mean i would say the laureato draws inspiration from the royal oak but calling it a homage is pushing it they look very different...maybe a “genta” homage is more accurate since it has nautilus and ro inspirations otherwise I agree with everything your saying I don’t think the laureato was discontinued for long it was made up untill the early 00s i think
Perhaps everyone shoud look at the the timelines surrounding the history of the brands, GP & AP may cross over on one particular watch that looks to be a homage today but it wasnt back in the 70's. GP is a very credible brand that has always remained true to its DNA & heritage.
James G Arthur well said...gp gets dragged threw the mud for drawing inspiration from genta for ONE WATCH!!
Such a beautiful timepiece. I do not know why but I prefer their reinterpretation of the RO, in particular the blue dial Laureato. Either way, I cannot afford either of them :-). Thank you for another great video.
It is not a reinterpretation at all.
They designed the watch from the ground up in the 1970s. The Octagon shape of the Laureato is really for watch proofing the movement into the case. As part of the process it is screwed into the case.
People are mistaken for thinking they copied the RO.
Extremely underrated brand with an illustrious history. Can find great value in both new and pre-owned markets. Check out the WW.TC with or without chronograph in precious metal....
Exactly. I am eyeing on these as well!
I think that their 1945, their 1966 and particularly the Bridges collections are amazing
I do like GP. Have mostly looked at vintage examples, as those are very cool and pretty good value (generally speaking).
I received a GP hi beat movement watch for college graduation. It was awesome. While stationed at Fort Bragg, the watch was stolen. I do miss that watch.
Very sorry to learn about your loss. You have to protect these things. One of my friends had a Piaget stolen from his bedroom years ago at a party he was hosting. The moron left it on his bedside table, and didn't lock his bedroom door. Not smart for sure.
Hi I have a GP sea hawk vintage, where can I get the glass repaired please
I own a vintage 39 jewel Gyromatic and a vintage manual wind Seahawk. I like them both and appreciate the history of GP. They made one of the first wrist watches for men in 1880 and timed the first Zeppelin flight in 1900. The new GP are very expensive and I was told they have a solid gold rotor. But I prefer the vintage models.
I have a GP Sea Hawk 49960 with the blue dial and a steel bracelet. Love it!
My dad wore a gold GP from 1954. Elegant design plus a gold bracelet.
Nephew, you are teasing all of us with your Black Friday adverts and vintage piece showcasing. Should be a grand morning tomorrow!
My grandfather had one. I found the box in my basement. I’ve been looking but can’t find it… rip…
I own a 39 jewel gyromatic GP from the 1960's. 1950's and 1960's were the golden age for Swiss watchmaking. The design and measurements of those watches were so much more practical than the over sized watches of today.
The obsession with large has definitely had an effect on functionality. Large watches are great for diving and they can be designed for withstanding abuse with their strong heavy cases.
Unfortunately that now is dictating everyday watches which is sad.
Many manufacturers still make small watches but they can be hard to source.
i own a gyromatic from the 60s also . not sure how many jewels ... had it for 28 years .. love it
I do have vintage Girard-Perregaux. I’d love to know more about it and a value.
I have a (probably 40s) GP, gold, sqare, no date, tiny, and I love it. Picked it up at an antique store for $150 in running condition.
Hi, Jory! Whats the reference of your Oris Big Crown Propilot? I need that beauty! 😁
I like when you use watches from the Shop in videos.I feel it brings it to life....
Happy Thanksgiving, Jory & Gato! :)
I own a Girard-Perregaux Casquette. Straight up Quartz Crisis watch.
Just did a google image search, woo buddy thats a serious unit
I'm looking for a quality gold watch for around 2 K I've thought about longings and a Girard Perregaux 47990 any thoughts?
I know this is a late comment but I was gifted my grandfather's vintage Girard Perregaux Gyromatic it's a small square watch and I really wanted to do research on the brand because I didn't know much about them and this video was very helpful. I wish I was able to figure out the reference number of the watch to get more details but its old and worn but I love it. Thanks for the education.
I have a small seconds GP from the 60's. My first Swiss watch.
I have my father's Girard Perregaux that he bought in Port-au-Prince Haiti while on a cruse circa 1962. It is a 39 jewel Gyromatic movement with date, white dial, not the high beat model that came out years later. Understated in outward appearance but the movement is gold plated and really quite spectacular. I even found the original red leatherette box it came in while clearing out belongings from my childhood home. GP has a long list of innovations as you have stated in the video.
That is an awesome watch Jory and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Thank you.
I inherited a GP Chronometer HF Gyromatic. It definitely has the quicker movement. It’s amazing.
Would anyone know how to take the back off a GP gyromatic 39 jewel tia
“You call that a backbeat?
George Harrison. Also 1968.
Jory, Happy Thanksgiving. Take a break-you deserve it.
Around 1990 my father had me wear test an old square face self winding GP that he bought for a song and cleaned and repaired. That thing was perfect. Thin, light, accurate, set it and forget it. I had a hard time giving it back, but I didn't have the money to buy it.
GP was the first company to produce wrist watches. They did it for a contract for the German Navy. They are a great company. I love their vintage watches.
Cartier would probably push back against this statement. 😂
@@thetimeteller Didn't Cartier introduce the Santos in 1905 or thereabouts ?
Edward Sauve 1907 I think- but Patek was making wrist watches in like 1868 or something. 😱
im happy with my 1960’s gold gyromatic .. keeps good time .. dress watch use only
I hear on the downlow you're having some sort of sale ? How does one find out more about it?
Oh man I thought it was a rumor
I heard it's sometime around christmas.
All the sold out watches are 50% off. (*_*)
I love GP watches but for some reason they are lackluster when it comes to holding their value. That's not really a complaint but an observation. They can cost a pretty penny when bought new but you can pick up some really nice used GPs for under $2k that would have costed over $7k new. My opinion is these GPs are under rated under appreciated and often under valued.
Buy and wear what you love, and who cares what the value is? You buy watches to enjoy, many for a lifetime. Bravo!
I own a Sky Hawk from the late 40s early 50s, it's gold with a SS case back. It runs very well the only problem is it is 31mm, I wear it every few weeks for a couple of days, the dial and gold Breguet numbers are stunning.
Thank you for the brief but stellar presentation of an historically stupendous marque. But I have to say that I'm considering a Laureato. I don't consider it the be a homage of anything. Just a really good watch.
The Laureato is the best looking of the SS sports watches IMO. As soon as the wife approves, I am going to get a white dial one (I think the blue craze will end in a year or two).
I just got one. A vintage gold one! It's not working, But I would love to know what it's worth!
I have a GP. I got it from my grandfather. I would like to know more about it. Can you please help me know more about the watch
Got the 1968/9 GP Gyromatic in gold!! Value?
Just saw your site Thank you. I have a 1969 GP checkerboard face watch. My Mother purchased it in Zurich for my Dad. I am in touch with GP to find out more about it. I was told by a Jeweler to investigate it me insure it. Cannot find anything about it. Carlos
I do have a GP 1968 “enshrined on the back”
I have a late 1950's era GP Gyromatic with 18,000 beats movement which I just had serviced. I also have a manual wind GP Sea Hawk, a famous model. The reissue 1966 GP is a beautiful watch with solid gold rotor but retail is very over priced IMO.
My GP Richeville 2730 from 1994 is my favourite dress watch, I prefer it to my Cartier Tank
How do I start my GP?
JORRY, Sports steel watches are what's in and has been for some time, these lovely watches and brands have to compete to survive you and I like dress watches but the overwhelming majority wants sports watches. When we see a watch with the Breguet hands do we say it's a copy you're ripping them off? Are Mercedes hands exclusive to Rolex? Integrated bracelets? Rolex had one and it was quarts. Is that a rip off of AP?
Is the Chevy Camaro a homage or a rip off the Mustang? The Barracuda, the Challenger or the Javelin all represented sporty 2-door Coupes. Just food for thought. Good luck on your sale and your Channel.
Peter Werle point well made...nobody will have anything to say
Im restoring one now
GP = hommage company? technically according to your definition Patek is a hommage of AP and Hublot is probably the biggest hommage company much bigger than Parnis is!! And I don’t want to continue with divers. There everybody is technically an hommage. Question: the shoe and shirt you wear has the same design and format of a shirt produced 100of years earlier. Does that make it them hommages too? Not only you got the GP wrong on their involvement in the business but there is a lack on your definition what hommages are.
Traveler 2 rose gold, 1945 XL noon phase, SeaHawks, World Times- all nicer than Laureato
I learned a bunch of new stuff in this episode! I am in law school and this episode had made me curious to learn more about patent law. Thanks for the great content!
I have got a GP foudroyante split second chrono Ferrari in white gold with black dial and brown strap with deployant clasp and T3 is is as good as it sounds.
I guess he forgot about the GP constant escapement when he said they are not innovative anymore
TT great video, GP is a amazing brand & very underated 💀
Hi.. I have a GP Richeville 8444 no date great condition bought for my 11th birthday. A lovely looking watch
What about the Skyhawk series .. ? . Those watches look nice .
Hey T3 what’s the lug width on that ? Great video
18mm!
Thanks T3, for me the lug width gives a great idea how a watch is gonna look on my wrist. See I’m kind of a a yeti...
TDY Ranger Wait... do you mean “lug to lug”? Because that’s very different than “lug width”.
Lug width is the width of the strap.
Lug to lug is how “long” the watch is.
TDY Ranger Anyway, this has got a 41.4mm lug to lug.
I'm looking at buying a Girard Peregaux from the 70s, for $1000aud
Song in the intro tho??
ua-cam.com/video/Ev4CqwkKNdY/v-deo.html
time stamp is about 34:10
I have a similar watch it’s the b1876 with a brown dial and a numerical 12 at the top of it only. Box and papers etc. I have never ever seen anything like it. Especially with the brown face. Can I send you pics and you shed some light on it for me? Might sell it.
I’d have a Perregaux any day.
I am here just becz of Aston Martin.
The SeaHawk....... and I am a lucky owner.
Check out the WWTC World Time Chronograph. Damn it is sexy!
Am i the only one who likes the Laureato
No, I want to buy one. Probably on the grey market, pre-owned.
@I Agree one hundred percent.
I got a Laureato 42mm blue dial brand new for 7.6k last month. Love it!
Own a GP 250 GT TdF Ferrari Limited Edition Chronograph, great watch, accurate and elegant. Also, own a Titanium GP Ferrari Limited Edition stopwatch, super watches, beautifully made.
I bought a 1960s GP on the strength of the 5Hz, but it was too thin and small and I flipped it like a tiny pancake.
nah, the cal 32A, 421, is 36000, not all gyromatic is high beat, and your watch doesnt print hf on the dial, so it must doesnt have 36000
Literally said it WASN’T an “HF” in the episode. 👀
GP 1948 big date is a far more innovative watch vs JLC reverso yet the later always praised probably its the Christian Bale Dark Knight/Bruce Wayne watch
I GOT MINES!
Uh yeah, 21,6K ain't a high-beat movement, not in 2019 anyway. The freaking 7S26 is not "high-beat." If it is, that term is basically meaningless. 28,8K is basically standard beat-rate these days, and 36K is high-beat, which is why Seiko reserves that name for their *actual* high-beat watches.
Seiko’s first listed “hi-beats” were in the twenty thousands.
❤❤❤ i have 2 vintage in white gold
Well, even 18,000bph is faster than I can beat, so... 🤷♂️
Lost it at Peregocks.
Did you actually visit their website before you did this video??? The 6 different lines.... and the discounts are over,
GP a homage watch?...... Audemars Piguet founded 1875 ......Girard Perregaux founded 1791.
Carmakers need to make SUV's and watchmakers need to make sports watches, GP must make these watches
GP makes Ferrari branded watches.
@@chriseaton2730 I know, I have one
Timeteller.....we are brothers in these matters....you are both on point albeit so direct if not harsh on GP here....but as I watched and reflected upon this video several times now....it’s seems that, myself, and others upset by these comments about GP are in truth lovers of the Brand.....odd that they do not reach out to us in community for sound counsel as customers..... GP should be double or the trouble the market valuation it currently has.....
The disrespect... 😳 so every time piece with a Genta-ish aesthetic is a homage to the royal oak ? That would put the nautilus , Rolex oyster quartz and eve the Bvlgari octo finisimo not to mention the Vacheron Constantin over seas in that category . Gerald Genta collaborated on and of record with many many watch makers over his career in the time where highlighting the designers name wasn’t the norm, only the manufacturers name was mentioned , as for example the omega constellation in 2 varieties, what makes you so sure he had nothing to do with the GP laureto which was released only 3 years after the RO and 2 after the Baume et Mercier Riviera.

GIRARD PERREGAUX "Gyromatic" 39 Jewels baby!!! ;o) P.S. 1960-1969
Girard Perregaux should be in the holy Trinity & not AP imho but those extremely over valued Royal Oaks sell like hot cakes!
GP is the G.OA.T.
I wonder what the first "G.P." in "G. P. Girard Peregaux" actually stands for. Geoff Pierogi, maybe?
As below Gerard who ?
