I like Elon, but I think he's so out of touch (not surprising since he's a billionaire). But not everyone wants to own or drive a car. Many Americans don't like driving and want to live in dense urban centers with great metro/subway accessibility. A walking lifestyle is so different from a driving lifestyle that most Americans are not only used to, but only aware of, sadly. You cannot build enough vehicle capacity to reduce traffic because it induces MORE DEMAND. Elon should know this. SMH.
A lot of people hate him because he's a billionaire and think that giving away his money will somehow make our problems go away, not appreciating his attempt and progress on innovating our way out of some of these problems.
He’s a wishful thinker and doesn’t quite understand the role of the government. Lol 😂 He thinks the roads his Teslas drive on could have been built by private companies. Or the help he gets from NASA and all the employees he’s poached from NASA. He’s at a point where he’s forgetting the influential role government has played in his ascent.
@@BrighamYen He's not out of touch, he's focusing on what he wants to work on. Who cares about those who don't want to drive, he doesn't so why would it matter. Not his target audience at all.
@@chinoisachebe975 he is not scientist or inventor. He is a engineering minded entrepreneur. I recommend reading the book Lift Off by Eric Berger to get some perspective on what he does and how he leads teams of very smart engineers to succeed in doing seeming impossible things.
Yes, I could listen to him for hours. It’s amazing what this one man has done to help humanity when he could have just packed it in after getting his PayPal millions. I drive a Tesla EV powered by Tesla solar panels and Powerwall batteries in my house - I’m literally driving on sunshine. And I never get an electric bill and have NO power outages. My Tesla car is way quicker and more fun to drive than anything else I’ve ever driven. I can drive from Michigan to Florida in one day using Tesla’s Supercharger Network, and I don’t have to pay a dime to use it. I invested modestly in Tesla stock in early 2013, and it made me a multimillionaire able to retire early (60). "People don't change their mind they just die". This is such a bold statement to make in public but so true. It takes a lot of self-reflecting and stepping down to admit that you were wrong about something and to learn from it. A lot of people reach a point where they get too full of themself and don't think about the possibility of growing more. They stagnate. As he describes with the job titles, they usually don't mean anything but they are used to justify opinions. He is so genuine and you can see that he means what he is preaching and this is getting rare nowadays. So I am happy he is still with us and hopefully for a long time to come!
@Back2NatureThis is a stupid claim...He is not responsible for your investment! Nobody forces anyone to buy shitcoins. Can he move the market? Absolutely yes! Because people like him, the same goes for other famous personalities. Do your own due diligence on your investments. But don't blame others for your losses.
@@johntheux9238 I understand his point, but as someone who does look back and try to analyze my past thinking with new data over time (actually evolving my thoughts rather than stagnating) I can't help but feel it's some what of a mistake to apply that to everyone. I personally would love to live longer and grab assistance from memory improvements etc so that I can continue to analyze and evolve thoughts on more data. I realize this doesn't describe the majority of people. But with the drive to do so, one could gain further sight into topics that shorter living humans cannot. There is also an issue of lost wisdom and the ability to really compare with what has come before as generations die off. Sure there are books, movies, etc to give some glimpses, but one can never really have the eye of the beholder from the previous generation unless they lived it. Taking those experiences and being able to grow over time I think is where one can really excel.
Max Plank said something similar. New theories don't make people see the light. Old physicists die and new ones simply grew up with new theories. And that's physics, which is supposedly directly verifiable through experience.
@@cradlemonsterp9309 "New theories don't make people see the light." As someone who has definitely changed opinions and mindset over time, I don't think I can agree with that. At least not as a 100% rule. Again, I get the thought that okay, so 2% of you or whatever might grow as you learn, but 98% don't and therefore it's a bad idea mindset about this. "verifiable through experience" - and I have verified through experience that a person can indeed grow and change. Doesn't obviously make it the rule, but I am self aware enough to not be full of myself as mentioned above and to know that no matter how little there might appear to be left to learn, one should never assume they know everything. It's a horrible mindset and I think the realization of that solves a lot.

36:06 "We are headed to an interesting and different world and I hope that we can remember that we are all human beings and let's just try to have as positive a relationship as possible and work towards mutual prosperity for humanity as a whole." -Elon Musk
He is a humanist in it's truest sense. He is working towards what will be best for humans (electric vehicles, ability to travel to another planet, ability to connect with AI using our minds), but this doesn't mean that he is a "cool chill guy" that you would "hang out" with. This is what irritates people about him. But those people will be lost in time, and his name will be remembered for a very long time.
There was something ominous about that last statement. Almost like a "please don't end the world" type statement. And frankly it's a reasonable statement to make...
I truly believe the engineering staff should be close as possible or in the factory as much as possible to see how either bad or good their decisions affect the assembly line and product. That way they can see firsthand how best to fix the mistake or improve the process. I have been on both sides in a factory as a technician, operator for machines and engineer.

What's not to praise elon? In 40 years China managed to do what no other country on earth could, lifting billions out of poverty. At the same time, the USG managed to do shove millions of Americans into poverty ... figure that elon ... east Germany vs west Germany more???
Outstanding & eloquent as always...All well said. Although I thought the host was a bit rude & sarcastic. Mr. Musk stays classy, kind & humble, regardless of the rudeness. This is what makes him an outstanding citizen!
Elon is absolutely amazing! We need more people like him in this world. His work ethic is incredible! I absolutely LOVE his honesty. I believe he speaks for the majority of people in this world. He is a man of principles and someone to look up to and strive to be like.
The man has a depth of understanding that few of us will ever have. One of the greatest minds in human history IMO, and it’s a shame our president doesn’t tap that brain of his.
Well generally politicians will either ignore or attack their political opponents. Musk was always a tRump supporter so why would Biden care about him anyway
Elon has received billions in subsidies but wants to kill them off? Elon doesn't understand how successful societies are run. America should emulate a European country like Germany if you guys want to be successful.
Elon Musk is not a Trump supporter. He has specifically said he is not a Trump supporter. He is a moderate while being generally liberal on social issues and conservative on fiscal issues.
There's 3 reasons we should all respect Elon: 1- He's a solutionist. His "genius" isn't giving articulate speeches in podcasts or conferences. He actually solves real world problems directly by creating the solutions for them. That is 1,000 times harder than being a "public intellectual" and giving a good speech. 2- He's not "lazy rich". He spends 90% of his time at his actual factories, working 80 hours a week, and involves himself deeply with entry level employees to see what reality is for each company to make great decision after great decision. Most of us making 50K a year enjoy more time off than he gives himself. Respect that. 3- He's fearless. He doesn't give safe corporate answers and he doesn't care if his opinion on things makes himself enemies. A lot of CEO's try to make every answer as unoffensive as possible to maximize options for partnership at all times. Instead, Elon calls out nonsense aggressively and lets his partnership and collaboration chips fall where they may. The haters that picture Elon in some big office with his feet kicked back smoking a cigar while "the little people" make him rich, clearly have never researched his daily reality. You don't get to where he's at by seeking leisure and passing work off to others. You get to where he's at by relentlessly trying to improve the world for the better.
@C. V. We (or maybe just me) are not in base reality anyway, so may as well recognize him. How do I know? In base reality a single human would not be able to create either a private space agency, or an electric auto manufacturing company in this day and age. He has done both, plus threw in an online bank, map, brain interface, tunnel co etc. One person inspired all this and made them happen. Impossible in base reality.

USA can't have it both ways... Accrual Accounting means your taking in a responsible amount relative to your outgoings. The USD being the global currency means you've got to be a global money supply and run a deficit. If the US didn't run a deficit the USD would be effectively deflationary for other countries trying to make use of it elsewhere in the world. The US overspending is in effect a source of currency inflation for all the rest of us... limited inflation is good for our economies which is part of why we buy into the idea of the USD being a good currency for trade. It'll all come crashing down of course... It's a trade of present day power and commodities in exchange for long-term stability. One day the USD won't be the global currency anymore, yet the US government will still have 3-1 outgoings... then the US is buggered because it's dollar will become worthless faster than anyone can imagine and then the country will collapse under debit and overspending.

[1] According to a Los Angeles Times investigation, Musk's companies had received an estimated $4.9 billion in government support by 2015, and they've gotten more since. tesla is a product of social democracy: fusion of private and public. he doesn't like his competitors getting it now, too. that happens when you get big. first, you love it, then hate it if competitors get it. it makes no sense why the public could not make an investment and that only the private side could invest in the electric future. if we only waited for the private side, we still would not have electric cars. he says the public cant be efficient with money, but it's the private that's doing the work, the public is only an investor and guides what is good to invest in, like taxing gas OEM cars. musks companies have been bleeding serious money until now. this year was first on plus for tesla on cars.

I don't understand why anyone would dislike this man. We need to study these people and understand them. Elon is the Leonardo da Vinci of our time. It's remarkable.
Elon Musk is the biggest welfare recipient in history. ALL of his money came from the government. His wealth is based on government grants, subsidies, tax abatements and government contracts, yet he actually thinks of himself as a self made man. He doesn't mind taking our government money, but he is against Build Back Better because that money would go to working class people instead of billionaires like him. We have been deregulated to death and yet he wants to get rid of even more regulations that protect us from risky Monopolist like Elon Musk.
I don't think we can compare him with a genius like Leonardo. He's just a son of this times guy. Not even interesting from a philosophical point of view.
Biggest subsidy farmer and shareholder defrauder in history more likely. His business model is based on having the government outlaw his competition and give his businesses special privileges. The idiotic "renewables" hysteria which is the primary cause of our recurring energy crises is ultimately sustains his business.
‘Hardens the arteries of civilization’. One of the best statements in this interview! I’m certain Elon views himself as someone trying to keep those arteries as healthy as possible, which is profoundly evident through his life mission.
Another term for government is "the state", which is fitting because the world is constantly changing but the government tries to keep the rules the same, which ossifies society. I think the unhealthy obsession the world has with rules and regulation is a product of fear, and like facing Medusa when you focus on your fears you turn to stone.
oh yeah? well "generally" i think the government should dismantle its army/national guard, and not protect people, and let other countries and civil war just start breaking out everywhere, so as not to impede natural selection and survival of the fittest" -elon husk
@@nickclark18 He is very obviously talking about the governments involvement in the market. He even says that the government should act as a judge. This is not the same as dismantling the military…
@@nickclark18 you are clearly unaware of what survival of the fittest in relation to natural selection means. Here’s a hint, it isn’t might makes right, it akin to those most able to adapt.
Same guy who tweeted the pandemic was "dumb", pandemic experts with Ph.D.'s were "stupid", that kids can't get COVID, and ILLEGALLY opened his Tesla Facility which ended up infecting hundreds of his workers. And let's not forget about when he called a literal cave-diving Hero a "pedophile" because he hurt Musks feelings.
How do people hate this man?! He's a genius.
Lol 😂
He thinks the roads his Teslas drive on could have been built by private companies.
I believe people hate him because of jealousy .
Very rare to have someone who is a genius, the richest, funny and yet very humble. 🥰

He and his companies are now employing over 100,000 people generating billions in wages as well as billions in tax revenue for federal, state, and local gov’ts.

It's a horrible mindset and I think the realization of that solves a lot.

he is yang gang, just like musk yang really want to fix problem
There's 3 reasons we should all respect Elon:
1- He's a solutionist.
He has several mega mansions around the world and he recently commissioned a 1/4 Billion USD yacht. I think that you are idolizing a bit too much!

SpaceX is the case of corrupted politicians in the US closing the U.S. space programs and transferring billions of the U.S. taxpayers' dollars intended for building NASA space rockets to a foreign national, Musk, who then claims his private ownership of the space rockets that his employees design and build on the money received from the U.S. government. That's corruption and worse than corruption. And don't start your verbal garbage about NASA not being able to build space rockets. That's administrative problem and it is created intentionally. Corrupted politicians are changing NASA program and cancel previous programs every few years. They do not let NASA to finish any programs and then they blame NASA for that to make brainwashed plebeians think that the national space agency is worthless.
Over the last few decades, politicians have been intentionally killing national space programs and transferring taxpayers' money to privately owned corporations to space. Space has been for sale for some time now. It's not for the People anymore. It's for the super-wealthy and their corporations.
“I’ll make a prediction right now. The first trillionaire will be made in space.” So said Texas senator Ted Cruz, shortly after a bill was signed to increase NASA’s budget for 2018. To untrained ears, his claim would have sounded extraordinary. It might even have stretched credulity for those familiar with the challenges of space. But on closer inspection, Cruz was not being that revolutionary. Peter Diamandis - founder of the X Prize competition to encourage tech developments - made the same prediction back in 2008 and expanded on the theme in his 2015 book Bold. As for how those trillionaires will make their riches from space, both he and Neil DeGrasse Tyson - the US astrophysicist and TV host - reckon it will be done by mining asteroids. For example, the asteroid 16 Psyche, one of the most massive objects in the main asteroid belt orbiting between Mars and Jupiter, could be made entirely of metal, according to a study published this week. The asteroid's metal is worth an estimated $10,000 quadrillion (that's 15 more zeroes), more than the entire economy of Earth.

But on closer inspection, Cruz was not being that revolutionary. except that it just isn't how large scale economies work. Especially when you are printing your own money. Plus what he just said is actually completely opposed to what he did himself. Infrastructure bills are the best way to make money for governments, they build up infrastructures that stimulate the economy directly and indirectly (through payrolls and through the creation of opportunities for industries and commerces to flourish and create tax revenues). He himself spent a lot for a sort of infrastructure in his car industries to prodduce stuff as well. Quite honestly he is not even at a mediocre level in understanding global economies. He sees this as if it was a home owner, but home owner don't have the power to print their own money, or smushing their debts by devaluating their currency, countries do.
