@@leanneadams2549 Wow! Why in the world are you judging how HPHS is running their rescue? Tawnee is right, as a non-profit, they cannot afford to pay what a for profit company can. Non-profit organizations cannot pay the going rate for what a for profit company can because they need to make sure that the primary focus (money) is on the "mission," not salaries.
Part of the reason the construction trade is paying so much right now is because there is a shortage of people willing and/or skilled enough to do the work. I know lots of young people who don't want anything to do with the trades as they don't want to work that hard and beat their bodies up by doing so.
It's a shame as lots of the trades have apprenticeships so there isn't the college loan debt that follows the college graduates (or not) to their grave, if not paid off before they die.
My dad was an auto mechanic, having grown up with a dad who worked on cars all his life, passing the skills he learned to his son. He, in turn passed it on to myself and my siblings. One brother chose to work on motorcycles. The rest of us could do the work but chose other careers.
My mom was a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, which was unheard of in her day. (Normally women got a Bachelor of Arts degree, which didn't have as much science and math in the curriculum.) Mom spent all her younger years saving up the money she needed to go to college, finishing up all but a few classes before meeting and marrying my dad. After I was born she went back and finished up the classes and got her degree. She set that aside, taking in laundry and babysitting other children until all of us children had entered either late elementary or junior high school. Then she reentered the work force as an RN working in the operating room at our local hospital.

Kory has put so much effort into Horse plus, it's such a shame to see him go and I'm sure he'll miss the horses. Saying that, at the end of the day the price of living these days is just so much. We need to keep up messaging them, so many do not even KNOW what has been going in with the slaughter pipelines, just like they did not know specifics about the Tenn Walking horses abuse! Watching Tawnee in DC with the awful contraptions showing them to these people and explaining what abuse they go through with the searing. Nothing like showing the items , the stacks and chains etc to make an impression.

Wow...jam packed episode! First, Kory you will be so missed! You have been such a blessing to HP. We certainly understand the whys of your departure and thank you for all you've done here for these wonderful rescues!! But a man's (or woman's) first responsibility is taking care of their family and we all know you are a great man 😁! Excellent announcement of Kory's departure Tawnee...so important to be open, honest, and (especially in this case) complimentary about staff departure... If so authorized by the person. I know your heart is broken about him leaving, I truly understand having walked in your shoes.
So much more to comment on about this crazy episode, but I've already exceeded my time lol. Bless you all for everything you do, everyday, for these babies!!! 😇😍🤗

Glad to hear that Dino and the dog are both okay. The dog is very lucky, donkeys are used in some parts of the world to protect livestock from predators, and donkeys have been recorded as, uh, 'removing' predators from the environment.

I'm glad you were able to get the owners to come back for the foal. Like you said you aren't that type of vet clinic/service but I'm glad you were able to give a second opinion for those people. I don't want to criticize the og vet they got the diagnosis from because I don't know what that vet's experience and circumstances are like but it's shocking that the only choices presented were orthopedic surgeon (aka get ready to shell out some money) or euthanasia for such a young and clearly mobile animal.

For them to drive 7 hours one way to the rescue says so much for the owners of the filly. So glad they were able to come back and get her with Doctor Lydia's prognosis.

Poor Dino, that had to be scary for everyone. I'm sorry Jordan got guet in the process. Thankfully, he was able to get them apart.
Best wishes to Cory, we'll miss you!!

Thank you for allowing the original owners to take her back and for helping diagnose her! I just had that happen with my cat, the vet said surgery or euthanasia on my kitten! Was able to find another vet who did proper diagnosis and no surgery is needed and she is healing beautifully! It was such a relief to know I wasn’t going to have to surrender because I can not afford a surgery cost! You guys are incredible! I bet those owners of the filly are so relieved and grateful!!

So sad to see Corey go. He was such a big part of Horse Shelter Heroes for me. I understand, but I do not have to like it. I can remember when Corey first came to Horse Shelter Heroes. Thank you, Corey!! I wish him well and thank him for the time he spent with us. Have a nice, safe day!!

Gosh, Haley, you have such a lovely energy about you. I do believe you could easily step into Cory's boots and build on your experience to become a great trainer. I'm sure those beautiful Mustangs would benefit from your calm energy. 😊

Although I totally understand that things change and opportunities appear, it has truly broken my heart that Cory has left! 💔😞 I've cried more than usual bc of the horrific conditions of these horses! I'm so sorry for the loss and pray for each and every animal going thru such hard physical deterioration. Lots of prayer and love coming your way! ❤🐎❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻😪

I'm so glad you call an intact male horse a stallion Dr. Lydia. So many people erroneously call them studs. A stud is an actively breeding horse, like what Coolmore is full of. A stallion is simply a male horse, not used for breeding.
