This is by far the best video on this subject. I would not have been able to do this job without your help. THANK YOU so much Nathan for making this video. It's great people like you who truly make UA-cam good.
Excellent video the best at down an dirty. Showing at tines you gotta improvise, the kits you rent dont always have the size components needed for your task. Good job man.
I've been putting off doing this job on my '04 Sable. After viewing this video, I think I'm ready to tackle it with confidence. Thanks for the tutorial.
You made the remark along the lines of ' I didn't think it would take this long'...Had to laugh...I think every home mechanic has thought that. Well done, you figured it out, thanks for posting.
Very Nice video: I bought the 15/16" deep well @ a pawn shop, Worked like a champ! You can also put that big "C" clamp in a vice. Knuckle will stick straight up like in the video.
You can purchase a large "c" clamp at hardware stores ,or even harbor freight ..., might have to make a few adapters, possibly out of conduit etc and save some bucks on a rental tool. .
I have also found that my 06 taurus a arm doesn't go down far enough to clear the ball joint. Had to put extra weight on it and "flex" them to make it work
Good job. I dont bother pressing out the old ball joints. I use a ball peen hammer and bash them out. New ball joints go in the freezer overnight and they press in with no issues.
When you take on a bigger job like this it's always best to buy Moog ball joints, certainly never buy Chinese ball joints from eBay because you'll be doing this job a year later. Move problem solver ball joints but only about $23 if you shop around. I don't understand buying from eBay for $20 for two ball joints that are nothing but trash and will bite you in the ass in about a year.
Did you have to take the new boots off the the new ball joint before pressing it in? All the other Taurus and sable videos show this because boot diameter is larger than pressed hole. They do come off and go on
Autozone and Oreillys rent out an adapter for removal and installation of the lower balljoint on the Sable and Taurus so you don't have to screw around finding a pipe or socket to use
Ty for posting the video, but being able to see the entire process would of helped alot. Title is a little misleading. Job was 80% done by the time the video starts.
tnx...your vid helped out greatly!! really appreciate the effort. FYI..The ABS sensor fastener for those who wish to take it off the knuckle is a E9 torx! They skip over that one on every set I could find at the retail stores in town..i ended up smashing a E8 on there and removing it like that..worked out fine.
horrible video . you fail to show that the axle has to be takin out witch can be difficult. No mention of having to take out the tie rod also. your video is misleading

Using a socket as a press cup = genius. This is EXACTLY what I needed to know. Thank you, good sir.

Yea you can slide them off and on. That way you won't tear them.

Yea True....I rented that tool set at Auto Zone...that day the one I really needed was out...Go figure...lol My luck.

Would it be easier to replace the whole lower control arm
More bolts...and time.

I have a 2nd video on how to do the entire process. ua-cam.com/video/Ukoexy9d22I/v-deo.html
Can you use an impact to turn that tool to press the ball joint out?
Yea you could but I'd tap on the ball joint at the same time so the tool does not bind up.
I think we're in all the way (that's what she said) lmfao
strut dont slide out easy when its a new one
O yea?
is a alignment required avterwards?
I never did one...but you should check just in case.
