Hours after Adani group’s AMG Media Network Limited (AMNL) announced that it has indirectly acquired 29.18% stakes in NDTV, the television network has issued a statement. It has said the move was made without any discussion with the promoters of the company. NDTV said that neither was their consent sought nor were they served any notice. In this episode of the Editorial, our Managing Editor Mr Sujit Nair shares his take on the matter

Very true. Now with the one channel that was giving an unbiased account, with this Adani guy buying it over, there's another channel in the BJP's kitty.
Prannoy Roy is defaulting on an IPO loan since 2008 and the loan was secured by his shareholding in NDTV. Adani holds the pledge and he is legally invoking it which Roy and is friends were obviously expecting this to happen sooner or later and were prepared to play the victim like he they are doing now..
Roy is also banned by SEBI for insider trading. Has had IT default issues earlier (in the UPA regime, relax).
Just because he appears to speak for your community against Hindus does not mean he is necessarily a good man. Can understand your feelings Saif- you community's consolidated vote does not decide the PM of India anymore and you naturally feel disenfranchised. Look for solid leaders within your community like Asad Owaisi who will represent your interests better, even if he is not part of the Government. Roy and his ilk in politics will keep exploiting you and taking your vote for granted, as they have done since 1947. Just my suggestion.

good explanation, my take on why buy ndtv is: if you can not beat your enemy atleast decrease its strength, make them disorganized, halt their progress. Some of the people who might be on edge of giving up facing challenges doing the good work may give up

There is difference between, assets v/s current net worth v/s expected worth. Companies or investments are sold on future expected worth.

Pronoy Roy has taken a loan in form of debenture. Its a convertible 0 % debenture. He has enjoyed 0% interest it all these years. If Pronoy Roy is a honorable man, person of integrity he has to honour this agreement with out any fanfare. He has to issue shares in exchange to debenture. Going to court has become a delaying tactic.

May be Adani still feels insecure and scared that some day these guys will catch up to him and spill the beans. As the saying goes " what goes around must come around"". From where I see it, there's still far to go in terms of digital penetration. Many viewers who are loyal to NDTV might not be able to watch a digital alternative of the channel. If after the hostile takeover, the anchors and their team leave because of the morality issues, there would be huge information gap about the government and its policies who consume the information through the television. Thus, the government would be able to eliminate a constant roadblock in its propaganda campaigns.
This shows poor listening skills, the NDTV failed to clear their loans and as a result the shares were taken over. So there is no illegality in this takeover. Don't worry, you have channels like India Today, BBC, Al Zazira etc that constantly feed anti Hindu and anti India propaganda

Well as owner of NDTV, Adani and his cronies will influence editorial and what to report or not to report. Thus they will not only buy the body but also the soul of NDTV. NDTV is the only independent, fearless and comparatively truthful new channel in india without lot of noise. All that will change if Adani manages to buy NDTV. NDTV will be finished in the form its today but will become another Republic TV. Then it will be time to switch off from NDTV.

True that NDTV has got good investigative & incisive journalists. To keep them engaged, is it necessary to use their forces only against the Govt. Can't the acquirer use these professionals against the opposition / opp-leaders ? If I am a forensic auditor, don't I get professional satisfaction investigating the complicated transactions of those opposing my corporate group ??

It's just a way to shut down NDTV. Other financial backscratching will already have been done for Adani to buy the rest of the percentage he needs. As someone else said, the cost to buy NDTV is merely a drop of sweat for Adani, or a single peanut; take your pick. The money to enable this buyout was facilitated many times over beforehand.
The soul of NDTV will simply move on to other places.
Though I feel bad for Prannoy Roy, he almost certainly deserves this. In all these years, was he so clueless as to understand what was going to happen???? As someone posted elsewhere, Prannoy and his wife will laugh their way to the bank.

This is not to say that he will not make any factually true comments in his video. I'm sure he will. I just didnt think I would learn anything useful from him, so I got off the bus.

We who love NDTV will watch Adani nautanki for the first few weeks, months AFTER actual editorial control, while keeping our eyes and ears for the sly pathli galli slip away from hard truth. Take care.
