The mast goes in and my DIY weather proof boot is assembled, Wave Rover is launched. We do a simple stability test and then it's off to Amish Country to provision. *Patreons now have access to Wave Rover's real time position via Garmin mapshare*

If you are wondering what I've been up to when not sailing Wave Rover check out my other channel: Rover's Rest: / @roversrest
Thank you and fair winds
Wave Rover is looking in great shape for the big crossing. Looking forward to hearing more about your preparations Alan.
She's doing great.
Enjoyed the Amish scenes! Wave Rover looking tip top. Very excited to see how she goes in the crossing. I think she'll surf in the right conditions! Love this little boat.
I've had hers surfing a bit in the bay.
@@RoversAdventure I might be wrong but I suspect it'll go well over hull speed in strong downwind conditions with a following sea. The twin keels and shape of the hull I'm thinking will make it much less inclined to broach down the front of a wave and hold its form than a traditional shape like say the Contessa 26. Really looking forward to seeing how she goes. This project is really interesting and a credit to you and the designer.
She looks beautiful!
You did a great job painting her
Thank you so much!
Nice job on the mast and sealing the mast boot, very interesting. The keels, rudder work and bottom paint came out great. Andy's gotta be very proud of his design. Enjoy the gunkholing.
Now in standby for a weather window
I recently discovered your excellent channel. I'm on episode 18 but wanted to see a couple current ones. I'm relieved that the clang-y music is abandoned eventually lol! The sounds of nature and the sea is why we're here. The overall production level has gone up since the early episodes. Well done skipper, fair winds!
Welcome aboard! And remember I'm self taught lol
@SailingWaveRover I retire in a couple of years and hope to do what you're doing. I too, will be learning as I go. You are an inspiration to myself and many more!
Rock on!
Perhaps the greatest part of the adventure is the people you meet along the way...Wave Rover looks great and the keel mods have really stiffened her up.
It has become such an unexpected joy to see so many places and meet so many kindred spirits
I would love talking to Andy about extending the length of Wave Rover. Such a beautiful boat.
Send him an email: adize456@gmail.com
i never get used to seeing old farm equipment just rusting away.
Glad the keel mods have got the stability where you want it. Good tip about distributing the water consumption to maintain trim … thanks! Hold fast! ⛵️🇨🇦😄
If that was news to you, then you may not know that racing yachts in particular have port and starboard ballast tanks. When changing tack, powerful pumps rapidly transfer water from the leeward tank to the windward, keeping the righting moment high.
Overall, it has had a noticeable effect.
Part of the overall concept was simplicity.
We shop at that Costco all the time. You were a couple miles from where we live. Welcome to the neighborhood.
So much to think about before such a voyage - all so interesting ! Love seeing how you pack the boat and love all the geese lol 🪿🦆🐤
Boats looks ship shape and Bristol fashion. Fair weather and following seas me buddy.
Here to bump up the algorithm, Alan., Hopefully to add a few pennies to the cruising kitty for your upcoming crossing. Best wishes for fair winds and following seas. Also best wishes to Mrs. Wave Rover for fair weather and a great weekend.
Many thanks!
Howdy Im a rigger in Deale MD, a short hop south of Annapolis. If you are in Annapolis or stop in Deale would love to treat you to a beer!
Would have loved to have met up. I'm in Virginia Beach now. 24hr to departure across the Atlantic
This was very interesting, looking forward to next episode.
I'm very envious of your upcoming adventure, Bon Voyage ! I'll be following your trip.
Thanks Brian
All the best Alan on your Atlantic crossing ⛵️
Thanks 👍
Alan, I am really excited for you. I may have missed it, but if you have a garmin in-reach or other tracker, it would be great to be able to follow you at sea!
Looks great and ready to go👍nice catboat in the vid😁I'm curious how well the keel work is gonna feel and handle for you. Thanks for the update Alan and safe passages for you👍🙏
So far so good 👍
Getting hyped for the trip. Love the progress, looks great.
Thanks!
Congratulations ❤ from India 🇮🇳
Have a great crossing Alan. Bon Voyage.
Many thanks!
Very good demo of stability. I think the bilge keel boats with proper ballast do keep stability well. My westerly centaur does so well when giing through boat wakes for example, that all you get is that initial roll and then the boat levels out almost instantly. Same in sailing in gusty conditions. Very gentle to level out once an overpowering gust subsides. Fair winds on your voyage
Great point!
Alan - looks great and great to know you are down by Newport News at this time. I was hoping to see your railing continue to your aft cabin top. That Dynema line looks scary to me... off shore. Can't wait for more videos!
I know what you mean, the line was the simplest solution. No time left for improvements at present. Perhaps down the road if the situation presents itself.
I'm guessing you considered a tabernacle-style mast early in the design process? Be interesting to hear what you think about that design for simple sailing.
For local sailing I would consider it but not for offshore
I’m really enjoying the Wave River trilogy and looking forward to your upcoming voyage across the Atlantic. I’m a little concerned about the strength of your wooden mast when tackling the high seas. Are you a bit concerned about its strength?
I'm always concerned about the rig but I have taken reasonable precautions in the manufacture of it.
Alan I know this is a ridiculous statement but it’s ashamed to have to launch Wavy Rover because I just love looking at the lines of your craft! The show must go on 👍
Thank you
Another great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Too bad we don't have a video about how you moved the mast step! No hard feelings, I'm sure making it would have added time you didn't have in the yard.
Roger that. If you can find the construction video in Season 2 you will see how it was set up. I simply redrilled the holes 1/2" aft.
Looking forward to finding out how the added weight to your keel's work in rough situations.
That's coming
Thx
Great video! On the Atlantic crossing, what percentage of time do you spend in the bowels of Wave Rover ? Is it like the vendee globe race ,outside for sail changes ?
I will average 10min outside per hour (approximately)
Some military ships use hydrophobic (superhydrophobic) bottom paint. Wouldn't that also be good for sailing vessels? It decreases drag substantially, but does it also repel bottom growth?
Not familiar with the product but it sounds great.
I understand the boatyard owner not wanting exposure because you are still dealing with that drunken sailer, it’s understandable.
This is were metric shines. 120 liters of water is… 120 kilograms! 👍😂
You are correct
To bring it even further, 1 liter is also 1000 cubic centimeters, or 1 cubic decimeter.
What was the Magnesium for?
Heart Health
Does a junk rigg mast need to be more durable than a Bermuda rigg¿
Yes, because it's freestanding
1 liter= 1 kilo
Correct
Dont get me wrong, but every time an American, Canadian or British guy tries to work out, how many pounds a gallon of water weighs, it makes me laugh !
Get this, go metric !
120 liters of water weighs 120 kilos, got it ? 🤣😂😅😆
Lol. I did say that I think. I then translated it for the other 50% of my audience
How bad weather did you sail so far with the boat? Beufort scale
30kts
