It's worth noting that the SB-600 only auto-detects the focal length of your lens while it's mounted on your camera, not while it's used wirelessly, and also that you can turn off the auto detection and set the flash zoom manually if you want to. I imagine you can do the same with SB-700, but don't know.
I understand that the SB600 SPEEDLIGHT has HSS capabilities however can only achieve it once it on the camera's hotshoe as you have to do it from the in camera menu setting. But what I want to know is if when that FP sign pops up on your flash screen and u take a couple of shots but want to remove the flash off camera and still operate in HSS mode will it be possible or it will have to stay on top of the camera for it to work?
@PhotographersOnUTube dude cool vis as always but just didnt get one thing those zoom ranges that you mentioned are they in Fx or Dx? as far as i know those thing detects them automatically but 120mm on Fx and Dx is a huge difference in range !
I believe the SB-700 can also tilt forward below the horizontal position, and can act as a master/commander that will control other flash heads. The SB-600 cannot do either of these things. Though they can both act as slaves that can be controlled from a master/commander such as a Nikon D90's in-built flash or a Nikon SU-800 commander unit.
I got my d7000 and sb700 last week, so far I am loving both, the only "horrible" thing I have found about the speedlight is the button to turn it on/remote/commander....I have long nails, and it is hard to push and turn at the same time, just saying.....I don't know if I am ready to let go of my nails....Nikon should have thought of us girls...lol.
@PhotographersOnUTube I am with you Jib. I have the SB600 and just upgraded to the SB700. To me it is night and day. SB700 is much better constructed then the SB600. Much better functionality and power. Sorry dg, its not being biased, its the truth. There is always a better product. I think you are being a little too sensitive. You the man Jib.
@ImSuchASpecialGirl i was at the same situation 2 months before, then i bought D3100 and after i saw results of both, i think it was a perfect decision.. If you are brand councious then go for canon 1100D, and if you want results then surely Nikon D3100 is a better option.

its funny when you compare 2 flash with only rotation function instead of power output and recycle time and overheat issue etc .....
