I’ve had my 700 for 8 years and it’s still working great!

I don´t want to sound rude, but i think you just need to Read the Manual and take more time to get to know it, Good Solid rugged Professional NIKON SB-700 needs to be Tough in all areas, normally it`s Operator Error and not the Equipment, i Know i`ve been there, Practice Practice Practice! (It´s quite a Good Flash)

Same situation as you with third party flashes (Yongnuo). Lasted about a year so have invested in the SB700. Agree about the button release on the head. Why? What's the purpose? Sometimes camera companies don't seem to try out their own equipment! As you say, it's an 'investment', but hopefully it will last longer...

I heard you mention focus issues using godox. What model were you using? It seems you may have been using a non Nikon version of a godox flash. I have both systems and prefer the godox environment entirely. All of my godox speedlights and strobes raise the lcd exposure for when in use in darker environments. Make sure you have an “N” version of the on camera speedlights.
The godox is no less compatible with your Nikon DSLR or mirrorless cameras than the sb-700.
my godox v1 has more features like TCM than my sb-700. Sb-700 is overpriced and limited if you want to add speedlights to your setup or larger strobes. Every godox plays well with every other godox speedlights or larger strobe. So much more to that system than Nikon could offer when they were still making these flashes.
You want to make a good investment go with flashpoint/godox, wescott or prophoto of your pockets run really deep.

I really like Godox flashes, but they aren't investments. I am one of the few (and the girl in the video) who went back to Nikon..Godox flashes don't last, non of them lasted more than 2 years, I am a professional photographer and I use flash all the time, and I cannot afford to keep buying flashes all the time. bought 2 sb5000s and I am happy. I love how easy godox wireless system is, but when I take a look at all the jobs I do I don't really use it that much, and I totally can get away with Nikons CLS system, if I want to go off camera. Also Nikon flashes give small quality of life improvements, like not overheating easily (sb5000), TTL BL is sweet and af assist light is always on focus point despite focal length and distance and grabs focus way faster than any of godox grids!

@@arunashamal Not sure what strobes you have had experiences with in terms of GODOX / Flashpoint, but I've not experienced any of these issues. My lights have all been tough and reliable as long as I keep them fairly dry. I would never recommend someone switch to a dead line of flash products. Nikon has discountinued all of their flashes and I hear no plans they will be investing in them moving forward. Makes sense with all the other choices out there that offer such system integration withh their triggers. You mention investment, and investing in a discontinued line of products that will receive no support or enhancments seems a bad bit of advice. If you want highest build quality you'll pay for it and get a very high quality product and certainly an investment then go with profoto I don't dislike my sb700 especially on camera but it is so limited from a system integration perspective and with any OCF application that I'd never recomend it.

@@maarekstele2815 You aren't getting any support for godox products either. They are disposable products. At least Nikon still repairs their stuff. I do have studio strobes from Godox and I like them...but they never see use like my speedlights...and non of the godox speedlights I've had lasted more than 2 years! Also like how much do people use speedlights OCF? like a strobe? not much and for many of my uses I can totally use CLS with my flashs without any issues! Agree on profoto.. you can go profoto if you feel like investing in a quality system.

Nikon stopped making flash units recently but, there are many great flashes out there including the SB5000.

Another great Nikon flash is the sb-500. Simpler, smaller, still quite powerful. And it has a little video light built in 😊
