  • My wife and I made this video and we hope it's helpful to any other Moto Guzzi owners looking for how-to videos in English. This is our first effort making a video. Maybe we'll put together a series for other jobs like changing the oil, replacing brake pads, etc. Let us know if the video was helpful and you'd like any others.
    Notes about the process:
In all, there are four tabs holding the box that houses the air filter in place. Two are obvious and on the top, two more are less apparent and located on the sides of the box.
After almost 7k miles from Denton to the Texas coast to Big Bend and all over north Texas, the filter didn't look dirty to us so we decided to dust it off and put it back. We wanted to keep the clean one for when we need it. If you have another opinion please let us know.

I would leave the mechanics to your assistant.

Hi m pretty sure that at design stage they did small holes and after tooling was made at test stage they figured out that it’s not enough air, so they added 2 holes in tooling. At secondary testing they closed one with the foam.

I advise against cleaning the air filter and putting it back. Most of the dust and particles caught is invisible and will clog up the filter over time. It cannot be removed by blowing air through the filter or else. Use a new filter, your engine is worth it. Also pay attention when fitting the frame that holds the filter element in place. The frame must press on the foam part of the filter all around. After market filters save on the width of the foam. So, when you installed the frame back on, check for gaps or areas which a gap between the foam and the frame, reseat the frame if needed.

hey guys I have read a few comments now about FAULTY air box design leading to problems issues with dust getting into the engine...a friend of mine just had the dealer have rebuild the engine due to excessive oil use, because of poor air box design...dust had gone into the engine which led to all sorts of problems. This air box doesnt sound look like the one he described to me...wondering has the v85 changed their air box design say in 2023 to anyone's knowledge? thanx

Thanks for the video, did you notice any difference having opened the second slit on the air intake of the filter?

The bike is ran great for 70 miles over the weekend. No noticeable difference yet. Any guesses why the strip was blocking the slit there?

maybe the second hole is used to adapt to different climate zones, in hot climate you may need more air
