I totally understand your excitement. We're very fortunate here in New Jersey, USA in that we get Snowy Owls every winter. They come and establish their hunting territory along the beach dunes at the Jersey Shore. On an average winter we usually get 4 - 5 owls, but during an irruption year we can get over 20 Snowy Owls. The first owls usually arrive in mid to late November and stay through March. I have photographed on as in late April.

Oh my goodness...I must have been dead lucky. I saw a Snowy Owl just over 20 years ago, while travelling by car through Scotland (don't know which part) and saw a Snowy Owl perched on a fencepost on the borders of a large pine forest.
At the time, I thought it must have been a released or escaped pet (Harry Potter fever going on at the time) and felt sorry for the poor thing.
But it may have been a wild owl after all?
(I had looked it up in a wildlife book afterwards and found out at the time that it's not native, that's what made me think ex-pet - people are so cruel, making fashions out of animals on the strength of a film. Remember Nemo and how animal traders almost made Clownfish extinct in some coral reefs?)
Anyway, glad you saw this little fella.
It's nice to see these do appear from time to time, and I'm sure there are a few more about, Scotland is that wild, a lot of creatures must be missed. I'm sure we have a few as yet undiscovered types of biting insect up here.

Have you considered a thermal spotting scope ? Iv used one to spot red deer around Ullswater saves a lot of hiking 👍

Yes, it is. I've watched it before (still worth watching again though) - says in the description it's from an earlier season.
