I got my Vertuo for Christmas. The coffee is wonderful but guests complained their coffee wasn't hot enough. No problem, I add boiling water from my electric kettle I have for teas to bring the coffee up to American temperatures. Since the coffee is strong to start, my guests loved it. I also found I could hack my old capsules to make the very best dandelion tea using the aluminum foil stickers found on Amazon. Of course you can refill with coffee too. Since I can't do a lot of coffee, this hack allows me to drink my tea most days and save the real thing for once or twice a week.
I'm not sure if that's really crema from the Nespresso Vertuo. Because of the spinning motion, a natural "frothing" is going to occur (not literally with a dairy product, but the centrifugal force is going to cause that to happen). That will result in the visual appearance of more "crema", but crema is actually a result of the extraction of the oils in the coffee. That comes from pressure, which the original Nespresso is using, but not in the same way with the Vertuo. That's the same kind of crema you will get from a portafilter-based traditional espresso machine, and one reason why higher bar (pressure) is desirable. The extraction of the oils from pressure, not spinning, results in the crema and therein lies the caffeine. The original Nespresso machine seems closer to the mechanism of a traditional espresso machine. I think I'm right, but not sure.
I have an espresso machine, and I agree with you. I'm not that familiar with Nespresso. However, espresso crema from an espresso machine is more oily looking. I mean, you can get thick looking crema, but in my opinion, it looks a tad different than this. I know Breville sells a high end one, and the crema on their high end one looks a lot more like real espresso crema.
@@roland505 that's what I think too. It's interesting and good for "long" coffee cups, maybe even good for a cappuccino in the morning, but with espresso being in my DNA I'm more prone to stay on a pressure machine.
Correct, the Citiz line of Nespresso makes the best espresso outside of a full size machine (I have those too), the difference in taste and mouth feel from the Vertuo is considerable (and so much better).
My understanding is that the Vertuo machine still uses the 18 or 19 bars of pressure to brew the coffee and the centrifugal system has only been added to it and has not replaced the pressure system. My Vertuo Plus made by Delonghi uses 19 bars of water pressure and also spins the capsule using the new centrifugal system as well.
I was thinking about it too, simply because I like a longer cup of coffee, but the main reason I don't want to buy it is because you're stuck with Nespresso coffee pods and they're not cheap. If they allowed third-party brands to use the same pods it would be a no-brainer.
Hi, I am shopping for a coffee machine. I have a very old Kurieg. Your comparison was the best I have seen love the side by side comparison and pros and cons you shared. Now I know which one I want thanks to you.
between the two Nespresso Original and the Vertuo, which would have the more stronger taste in espresso? I've read that the espresso from Vertuo is not as hot as the Original, and because Vertuo spins, it doesn't give it that strong taste that the Original does... is that true? and what's the difference between the Vertuo vs VertuoPlus (applying the same questions vs the Original line)?
Glad I found this. I do enjoy drip coffee and espresso drinks. I couldn't make up my mind between the Keurig or Nespresso. After your fantastic video I have decided to purchase the Nespresso. I do own a percolator from the 60's that still makes the best coffee and a Bonavita drip coffee maker so the Nespresso seems to be the next logical choice.
Don't forget - Nespresso pods are aluminum and 100% recyclable! Nespresso recycles the capsules and the coffee is composted, package, and sold as fertilizer. No waste. Keurig pods are terrible for the environment and nothing is recycled. Just ask Nespresso - they will send you free recycle bags, or you can drop them into a ziplock bag and store in the freezer. There are many places you can drop them off for recycling. Crema, excellent espresso and good for the earth. I bought a Nespresso Essenza and couldn't be happier!
Fun fact, more than 50% of all plastic waste in the ocean is not the fault of civilians but from fishing companies. Their fishing nets are made of plastic and are the main contributor to plastic waste in the ocean.
I just wanted to point out that if you want a shot that gets as close to a real Espresso machine as possible then the Classic line is your best choice. The Vertuo might be a better choice if you like tall mixed Espresso beverages. The Vertuo "spin brewing" is a step away from a real Espresso brewing method.
I was wondering about that, so thanks for posting this comment. I think I'll probably have to use two pods to make a decent sized mug of coffee though...
In actual fact though, the centrifugal system in the Vertuo line is in addition to the 19 bars of pressure and not instead of. The Nespresso Vertuo Plus machine still has the 19 bars of pressure to brew the coffee as well as the new centrifugal system.
Perfect explanation. Thank you, so much. Can I put 8 OZ coffee in the Keurig & use the milk attachment, as I like a light latte? Currently I have a Keurig & just use a capresso milk frothier. I think the Nespresso looks well built? Jeanne
Just got Nespresso Vertuo. Really happy so far. Ordered a reusable pod & gonna grind my own beans. Buck a pod, for a coffee drinker like me, i'd go broke.
Purists would say pressure, Nespresso came up with this new method. It really depends on your preference. The spin is more foamy which is really a personal choice.
Hi Malcolm, as mentioned in the video the Vertuo does not brew traditionally . It spins the capsule vs forcing water through at pressure...hence no bars to report, As for taste they are similar as the coffee availables are.
Thank you!! I’ve been looking and looking for real comparable demonstration and almost gave up. Then came your video. Again, thank you. This has helped me make my decision.
Well this just solved my dilemma. I have a keurig. The coffee is decent but not awesome. I bought a vertuo and loved it but the capsules are so expensive. I wanted to go with the original line because the capsules are more affordable. I could just make espresso drinks with my OL and keep on tolerating my mediocre drip coffee. Lol BUT if I can program the lungo button to brew 8 ounces, that might just be the best of both worlds! Thank you!
Excellent overview! Well explained and thorough visual demo! Only thing I would add is how “hot” each machine makes coffee. I read many reviews before buying my Nespresso machine and the most common complaint was that the coffee was not sufficiently hot. I bought the latest (Vertuo & Aeroccino3) and so far, coffee comes out hot as I like it. Thank you!!
Hi is the Vertuo plus reliable at long term? The automatic opening and closing system looks like very fragile and if it stops working, you will not be able to manually introduce a capsule
Tough to say. With any machine that is not repairable we expect about three years to five years. It will depend on a lot of things including the water you use and how often
I should of added that the Tassimo which is getting harder and harder to find pods for I have to buy them on line makes a really good creama coffee along with other coffees and milk pods are available.
Sadly, I had to stop using my Tassimo machine over a year and a half ago because I was having problems with the milk disks. And in the United States you can’t even buy Tassimo machines much less milk disks, only the coffee and espresso disks. I bought a Nespresso Essenza mini back in December. I wasn’t too sure if I liked the coffee the first couple of weeks but after getting the proper measurement of milk to espresso, I finally like it now!
We bought a keurig about 2 years ago. In that span of time we have used it about 25 times. QVC had a sell on Nes. Vertuo a couple of weeks ago for around $160.00 which included 60 pods. This was a great price because that is about the price of 60 pods. We love the taste of the Nes. but find the Nes pods about double the price. I will gladly pay the price until we go broke due to the flavor. P.S. The Nes. uses the pod to create different Temps for particular flavors. The flavors run off of a bar code which in turn tells the Nes. machine what, how, how much to brew and the temperature. I don't care for really hot things. I prefer a coffee I can drink instead of sip. The Temps. on the Nes. are much more pleasing for my taste and I prefer the flavors on the Nes.

Great overview! But why does everyone assume that the viewer knows that there are two mixing gadgets--one for froth--one for hot milk--and that they come mounted together for the Aeroccino 3 that is included with the Vertuo Plus. My box said there were two whisks in the package. I thought i was missing a part until i looked at several videos. Found one that explains and removes the spring for hot/cold milk. . Nespresso directions are pitiful! I can only use almond milk--fairly good. This also needs to be addressed in videos. Many love latte and cappuccino but do not tolerate cows milk. Please think about adding these topics.
when you make a coffee on the original nespresso, is that technically an americano? im debating between the nespresso original and the keurig, i typically don't like drinking espressos, i prefer the coffee type.
All the Keurigs are about the same for quality...reviews are typically bad because the pods are bad or the people.use their own ground coffee and use the wrong grind it too much. Best one though is k1500. Small commercial one...we did a video on it
There’s an amazing sale going on right now for Nespresso! Just bought my first pod coffee maker - the flat top Vertuo. Very excited and looking forward to less trips to starbys!
What would be the best Nespresso Vertuo product on the Canadian market? Are the Nespresso Vertuo products made by Delonghi better than the ones made by Breville?
VertuoPlus line is not crema. Crema comes from the release of co2 which can only happen via pressure. Good coffee, but only the original line offers any real crema.
So true, it’s not real crema. I have the vertuo machine and it is more foamy than traditional crema. I swirl the foam into the coffee and it gives it a very nice taste. Regardless it is very delicious coffee and worth the money imo.
When I got my vertuo plus I just thought it would be better than the old big now that I’m getting into it I’m like it tastes good but the foam/ fake crema is a bit too much it doesn’t feel real
Sorry my phone messed up my spelling ! I want to get a real espresso machine plumbed in or mybe start out with a Barista Express but u really want a double boiler machine but there so expensive
I went to Italy to my sisters house and she gave me an exellent and used a Nespresso Delonghi Inissia. It made very little crema and woke me up. it was like I was in a bar.Can somebody tell me which nesspresso machine compares to that or the name.
FYI the ‘commercial’ nespresso vertuo pods are different than the consumer. The pods are way less tasty IMO and are shaped differently. They’re like a complete flat disc. I got a nespresso home edition free from raffle, way different taste in the pods. I would recommend to buy pods from nespresso site. They always seem to have coupons/free gifts/free pods. Plus you can get free recycling bags with free shipping labels.
There are no commercial Vertuo pods. They are just the commercial Nespresso pods. Not called Vertuo. These are never available in stores and completely a different system. Vertuo pods are only available at Nespresso boutiques.
The look of the coffee/espresso is not important. I would really like to know the difference in the taste/flavor, not sure if there is a way to measure that or if it is entirely subjective...
Didn't you say the new Nespresso was also not using pressure? Looks to me like the original Nespresso is superior. The other one is just foam from spinning.
I have a question, and sorry if you answered it in the video and missed it (I did watch the whole thing). I'm wanting the original nespresso. You said you can pre program the water output? The info on the citiz says the largest cup is 5oz. You can program it to 8oz? And are all the original pod machines programmable? The one I was looking to buy says the largest cup size is 3.5oz. Thank you!
Fast forward to a little over a year from when this video came out I’m starting to see aftermarket Vertuo line coffee capsules. I just saw some at Target from Starbucks
Keurig is drip style, Nespresso is espresso brewed. So typically most would say stronger for nespresso but really the taste is so subjective you should try them first before you decide.
@@ecscoffeeinc, don't forget too that the coffee inside the cups or pods is going to make a huge difference. Not all cups or pods are created equal. The Nespresso machines are a huge step up from drip makers. I would even a step up from French press. If you live close to a full Nespresso store go visit them and test the coffee. Nespresso has some really cool barista flavors and single origin flavors that are lovely.
Vertuo pods are stupid expensive as some are $2 per pod now where the original line have tons of groups making great pods now. Peets pods are much much better than Nespresso's IMO and are only 60-70 cents each depending on the quantity you buy. Even your local mega-mart started selling the pods from names like Starbucks to generic store brands. While I like the versatility of Vertuoline I refuse to give Nestle my business and will wait until its patent expires.
Can I ask where are you buying these? The orginal Nespresso pod are €0.45-€0.75 with a box of 10 being around €3.90-5 and the Vertuo prices are pretty much the same. This is direct from Nespresso website
Are/were you guys connected to Keurig in some way? I see no reason for it to be in this comparison. There are a few other pod systems you could have featured which do make espresso but you chose this. I don’t get it unless you were paid
@@ecscoffeeinc I had no idea drip coffee was so popular. No wonder the country is so angry, if I had to drink that I think I’d hate myself too 😄. Thanks for the answer though
I had a Vertuo machine and had to return it due to having extreme stomach pain. I wasn’t sure if it was the coffee itself or the aeroccino. I loved the taste of the coffee so it was disappointing :(.
Wish I knew that I was. Happy that I could do both but now I wish I got the older one when I was looking for reviews they were saying how much better the new line was now that I’m become a espresso nerd u really want a real machine like a double boiler or mybe start out with a breville barista because of the price of a machine and grinder but I’m saving every week for one
The Nespressos get very close to a good coffee house flavor. They are bold without too much bitterness. For the Vertuoline, the coffee is not scalding hot. If you add cold cream or milk you will end up with a lukewarm cup. I get around this with a little added boiling water from my electric tea kettle. It doesn't cut the coffee too bad to get it hot. Keurig is drip coffee and tastes just like it. The benefit of Keurig is one cup convenience, ease of shopping for cups, and a nice array of choices including ciders and teas.
I just tried an original line with a Pete’s espresso pod rated at a level 8. It was terrible. Thin and bitter. To me it seems like there is not enough room in the pod for enough coffee and it brews too cool. I was looking for a simpler alternative to my Italian espresso machine. My Italian machine uses 18gr. of coffee and brews at 200 degrees F. For the same sized beverage the Nespresso uses 6 gr. of coffee and brews at about 160 degrees F. With those constraints it seems impossible to get a decent shot. However maybe I need to try a genuine Nespresso capsule before I rule it out.
The best overview I've seen. Thanks for making my selection much easier.
I have that kuereg but I think ima go to nespresso vertuo

Nespresso directions are pitiful! I can only use almond milk--fairly good. This also needs to be addressed in videos. Many love latte and cappuccino but do not tolerate cows milk. Please think about adding these topics.
Good points
when you make a coffee on the original nespresso, is that technically an americano? im debating between the nespresso original and the keurig, i typically don't like drinking espressos, i prefer the coffee type.
Not a true Americano but basically will taste like one. In your case stick with Keurig
@@ecscoffeeinc would you recommend the keurig mini plus? there are a lot of mixed reviews on that machine. im looking for something small, 1 serve.
All the Keurigs are about the same for quality...reviews are typically bad because the pods are bad or the people.use their own ground coffee and use the wrong grind it too much. Best one though is k1500. Small commercial one...we did a video on it
the Vertoline plus allows you to have 5 differant sizes from espresso all the way to 14oz ccapsals
How about bringing in the Senseo line? Loved it I. Europe
We sell the pods but getting the machines has been a challenge
I'm happy enough with my Kitchenaid nespresso :) hope they will keep that new line as a totally separated line
Vertuo crema seems a bit much.. And for expresso original or vertuo?
For espresso, Original.
There’s an amazing sale going on right now for Nespresso! Just bought my first pod coffee maker - the flat top Vertuo. Very excited and looking forward to less trips to starbys!
but you can only get their capsules from Nespresso, a nespresso store (few and far between) and Amazon. no third party offerings
dede martinez they sell a reusable pod on amazon!
dede martinez I order my pods online through Nespresso and if I order before 12pm (Monday-Thursday), I get my pods delivered by the next morning.
YOu didn't mention but you can do a cold froth on Nespresso as well. YOu just have to press and hold for a couple of seconds.
Thank you. Good explining.
You are welcome!
very vey very very helpful....i been looking to buy a machine. im tired of paying for cofee outside
Great review thank you..
I have the keurig mini and the Nespresso vertuo. 💕
What would be the best Nespresso Vertuo product on the Canadian market? Are the Nespresso Vertuo products made by Delonghi better than the ones made by Breville?
They are the same in terms of quality.
Simona Wheeler Inissia is a Nespresso original machine
No dought nespresso coffee is best , but cost would kill me . I drink 6-8 cups a day from kuerig. A shot off a kurig is 2 oz not much coffee
@@funover40 whatever the commercial version is called, they taste way worse
Excellent video
Hmmm now I know which one to buy. Thanku ✌🏽&💜☕
What is the name of nespresso original machine?
The look of the coffee/espresso is not important. I would really like to know the difference in the taste/flavor, not sure if there is a way to measure that or if it is entirely subjective...
Fantastic review. Much appreciated
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
I just got a Nespresso Vertuo Plus and the coffee is coming out extremely bitter. Did this happen to you? Is there something I am doing wrong?
try lighter rates coffee pods. Keurigs only go to 7 but Nespresso goes up to 12! maybe your pods are just too strong
Great video sir thanks
Most welcome
Can you buy third party VertuoLine capsules?
No you cannot
ECS COFFEE Espresso & Coffee Gear thank you
No, but look into refill hacks using aluminum foil stickers. Avoid the silicon caps, too many reviews saying it ruined their machine.
Fast forward to a little over a year from when this video came out I’m starting to see aftermarket Vertuo line coffee capsules. I just saw some at Target from Starbucks
What is the taste difference between the three machines?
Keurig is drip style, Nespresso is espresso brewed. So typically most would say stronger for nespresso but really the taste is so subjective you should try them first before you decide.
@@ecscoffeeinc, don't forget too that the coffee inside the cups or pods is going to make a huge difference. Not all cups or pods are created equal. The Nespresso machines are a huge step up from drip makers. I would even a step up from French press. If you live close to a full Nespresso store go visit them and test the coffee. Nespresso has some really cool barista flavors and single origin flavors that are lovely.
For me if not Expresso....no Coffee. Drip coffee looks like dish washing water.
Thank you for this review! very helpful!!!
Excellent video!!!!
Vertuo pods are about $1/ea on amazon.
@@mrbobsevil espresso pods yes, 10 to 14oz pods no
@@ryanstage3912 im looking at a 30 pack of the XL 14oz pods for $33
Can I ask where are you buying these? The orginal Nespresso pod are €0.45-€0.75 with a box of 10 being around €3.90-5 and the Vertuo prices are pretty much the same. This is direct from Nespresso website
great job! Thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful!
I’m still confused as to what to buy lol
I thought I wanted original now this has changed my mind except for the limited choices it has
I have an original line! Best purchase ever!! KEURIG coffee is horrible and watered down
Are/were you guys connected to Keurig in some way?
I see no reason for it to be in this comparison. There are a few other pod systems you could have featured which do make espresso but you chose this. I don’t get it unless you were paid
Haha
No . We don't get paid...these are the number one and two selling single serve brewers with capsules in North America. That's all:)
@@ecscoffeeinc I had no idea drip coffee was so popular.
No wonder the country is so angry, if I had to drink that I think I’d hate myself too 😄.
Thanks for the answer though
What I’ve always been told is that a standard 8oz cup of coffee is actually 6oz of coffee which leaves two ounces for milk.
Subscribed.Good luck with your channel.
Thanks for the sub!
I just bought my first nespresso machine
Awesome demo.....thks!
Helpful. Thank you!
You're welcome!
excellent review!
Very informative ...thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I had a Vertuo machine and had to return it due to having extreme stomach pain. I wasn’t sure if it was the coffee itself or the aeroccino. I loved the taste of the coffee so it was disappointing :(.
What a great video. perfect.
It looks like Virtuo line gives you more of a foam than creama.
True, it is not a traditional Crema. Most Nespresso drinkers seem satisfied with the Vertuo foam however.
Great video, thank you so much.
Thank you! This was so helpful!
great review !!!
But the vertuo espresso isn’t an espresso either. The original line at least use pressure.
How do they taste?
Subjective question. If you like North Americans Drip coffee Keurig is best...otherwise Nespresso
