Ms.Guillem is by far the best female dancer the world has had in the longest time...her incredible feet and use of them, her great legs and extensions...super human, great placement and control...she lives on point it seems...and her musicality...well not in this clip since there is no sound...:-(( Saw her in class in Paris with Jacqueline Fynnart-maker of ballerinas...just mindblowing....!!! and in peformance this woman is just perfection.....!!!...:-))
It was originally choreographed for the famous French ballerina Yvette Chauvire (and the danseur Vladimir Skouratov) by the Russian choreographer and ballet master Victor Gsovsky in 1949 and was first performed that year in Paris. The music is an extract from a ninteenth century opera-ballet by Daniel Auber.
Because it is quite a technically demanding variation it is now often used as a show piece at the international ballet competitions (like the Prix de Lausanne, where I'm sure at least one young ballerina has attempted it every year since the competition began!)
If you watch the video "Sylvie Guillem dances solo from Grand Pas Classique", you can see some similarities. To me it seems to be Sylvie Guillem, whereas indeed on this video she doesn't look like Sylvie at all.
I know I found the whole piece on YT somewhere and commented to that effect on that video and now can't find it. Someone shoot me. And of course this is Sylvie. This is the video used that juxtaposes Guillem with Platel in this variation.
Oh yes I remember this performance when it aired...do you have any of the other clips, such as Trinidad Sevillano & Peter Schaufuss performing Le Corsaire pas de deux, which was part of the same evening? Or even Nikolaj doing Flower Festival if I'm remembering correctly? I've been looking for the Trinidad piece especially...there are no clips of her on youtube.
Please post or give info on where one might buy or find a copy. I just found the Christian Science Monitor article on the "Oscars" of the ballet world for 1986/7 (?), and that must have been some gala!
absolutley not. because they're following a strict diet...I'm in a contemporary academy and we practice a lot, but we're not as skinny as them, and I've got some friends in Wien, Munich and Paris that they have to be skinny, exercising or not.
Theirs articulations are broken by gymnastic when she was three-four years old , it's awfull what the teachers of gymnastic make to young childs , it's very paintful ! There are videos on Y T where we can see the work of gymnasts with very young childs , to see that !

It makes me laugh because such perfection can't be human. Bravo Sylvie!

perfect!
this is a hard variation and she makes it look so easy. i learned this in variations class today and that turn sequence from the corner.....whew....
Yes, this is sylvie! I remember when this first aired. it's her.
Ahhh she's crazy amazing!!! I love her feet, hyperextension, and control!!! :)

You're wrong. It's Sylvie for sure! I've seen this entire performance and can tell you with 100% certainty.

I WANNA BE HER!!! Hahaha no seriously, it's perfect!
so jealous of her arches!!!!!!!!

Wow...that is a hard variation, but especially with her feet! It must be super hard!
Does anybody have the full program. And can you please post it .
Of course this is Sylvie. Those who claim it's not are either blind or stupid. No one dances like her, even to this day.
Please, please, please can you post the whole piece? It looks like you may have it, as you can see her partner (Legris?) making his exit.
@dani0lovs0bruno0 do you see her extension? this is tots sylvie.

Right here the full version. I believe this was her competition in Denmark.

fantastic...but what's the music..??
I agree with what you said. But that is nonetheless a stuning performance
@SoulMan381 Um, wanna try again ?
she's one of the monsters
it is, though.
maintenant
hmm this version is different from the one that Thomas from Atlanta Ballet taught us.
quarante et deux
This isn't Sylvie Guillem. It's obvious from her face and her body.
Shanna12345678 it is obvious from her extension and feet. She is very young here.
What ywar
Excuse me.. This is Elizabeth Platel. NOT Sylvie
absolutley not. because they're following a strict diet...I'm in a contemporary academy and we practice a lot, but we're not as skinny as them, and I've got some friends in Wien, Munich and Paris that they have to be skinny, exercising or not.
ELA É ELIZABETH PLATEL!
Victória Nascimento não com essa extensão e aqueles pés. Sylvie Guillem bem novinha.
Ouch. That's a foot-killer variation. Hope they had an ice bucket ready for her backstage. Amazing dancing.
If we don't listen music only movie we can understand that Guillem is more a gymnast than a ballerina because her gesture is without musicality
.. she doesn't look like sylvie... idk
That's definitly NOT Sylvie Guillem!
i don't know who this is but it's not Sylvie Guillem

Sylvie Guillem was in gymnast school very young before to start work of classical dance
this is not sylvie!
