    • @eg5660
      @eg5660 Рік тому +16

      @@wind7899 Sorry for the incredibly long reply lol: So the way that a dancer is recognised as prima ballerina assoluta varies from country to country, but it’s usually actioned by a government or head of state. It’s a fairly symbolic title with no universal protocol.
      Britain’s most recent assoluta (& the only officially recognised one) is Margot Fonteyn, who had the title bestowed upon her by the ROH and officially sanctioned by Queen Elizabeth at a gala held in honour of Fonteyns’ 60th birthday.
      As the ROH still operates under a royal charter, it’s likely that they would acquire a royal sanction if they chose to recognise a dancer as assoluta again. While I’m sure that the company could probably obtain this, I’m just not sure they want to.
      Fonteyn is a massive part of the Royal Ballets legacy, more so than any other principal. For decades now, she’s been championed as the ultimate timeless Royal Ballet ideal that all of their students should aspire towards. As the country’s sole assoluta, she’s this historical and almost kind of mythical figure.
      Marianela is undoubtedly a world class artist and one of the best dancers to have ever graced the stage, but as it stands it just seems unlikely that anyone but Fonteyn will hold the title at the RB. I will say that times change though, so never say never!

      @@eg5660 Thank you for this information, I had no idea.
      In that case, sadly, I don't see it happening for Nela, I doubt the Royal would ask and nobody in this country seems to be rewarded in a deserving way. A real shame because she's an assoluta if ever we've seen one.

      @elizzy8754 Рік тому +1

      @@yael9137 I was wondering whether it was a 'random' recording or a recording of the Royal Opera House orchestra. It would make sense for it to be the latter if that is where the performance will take place. Who decides on tempo, in fact? 🤔

    • @yael9137
      @yael9137 Рік тому +3

      @@elizzy8754 from what I’ve experienced, a dancer like Nunez would probably have the most say, working closely with the conductor so that she can have it exactly how she wants it; and in a performance the conductor would have followed her and slowed the first two sections of variation down. She shows the tempo she wants with her first piqué. I’d say for publishing reasons, that this recording probably is the Royal Opera House Orchestra, but I highly doubt it was recorded for this purpose. Companies make recordings of rehearsals with orchestra all the time so that they have something to rehearse to if a live rehearsal pianist isn’t available or the music can’t be replicated with a piano. I’m honestly surprised that this wasn’t done with a live pianist instead.

      @@owens5737 Could you elaborate? Because to me, she's telling a story or having a conversation with the audience. If you've seen the comparison vid with Sylvie and Elisabeth Platel, one thing I adored about Sylvie is the way she seemed to just hang in space with the attitude turns (starting at about 8:38 here), and Nela right there is like Sylvie on steroids (in a good way---she just holds the balances and does the arm switch with such languid grace and musicality, I was sighing in involuntary delight). I realize she's a natural turner, but there's something appealing about someone you know can do 7 just doing 2-3 perfectly centered enough to do those 7. Agree to disagree (that's why it's art, different things speak to different people!) But yeah, could you explain Nela-isms?

Yes she has good turnout and everything is nicely placed but the clear crisp concise musicality combined with steely control and artistry of Sylvie is the best there is. Nelaisms, every dancer has their own isms, but Nela does it at the expense of the music.

    This is a rehearsal, not the finished product. All those saying slightly off the music, well that's what you do when you are learning something. You try things out, you get the "feel" and then you hone what you are doing. I've watched a lot of rehearsals on YT, it's quite amazing the tiny adjustments that are made, I used to play the violin, same thing. The finished product takes hours of practice to get just right, and actually getting things a bit wrong gives you knowledge of what you have to do to put them right. If it's perfect right from the beginning, then what do you learn?
    Anyway, I thought this was amazing, beautiful dancing. I loved it, I loved that it looked like dancing rather than a perfect performance.

    Marianela is one of the greatest Ballerina I have ever seen, incredible purity in the technique, softness and impressive strengh. And this is the most authentic version, that Yvette Chauviré and Wladimir Skouratoff (the creators) have been teaching from Victor Gsovsky to almost all the greatest french Etoiles ans Soloists, Claire Motte, jacqueline Rayet, Dominique Khalfouni, Elisabeth Platel etc.

      Platel was incredible not mentioned enough i feel. But nevertheless a lovely performance by 2 incredible dancers of a different generation.

    William Bracewell is _AMAZING!_ So elegant and athletic, and he has so much strength! Glorious to watch! Marianela Nunez is a beautiful dancer, too, but for this ballet I cannot get the image of Sylvie Guillem as a 19 year old out of my head….she was just iconic. And also Olga Smirnova is another with such an intense presence of classicism, it rises above mere talent and beauty. And, for myself, there is such an advantage to a ballerina to have long legs, which Nunez lacks, and which is the only thing she lacks for me, bc she has every other quality.

    This message is a message from a dancer to paris opera baller (grand pas classique was created on stage of paris opera ballet by Yvette chauviré and wladimir skouratoff) in 1949 and 1964
    Be careful at the version and style
    In case of doubt the references movie is with Sylvie Guillem and Manuel legris directed by Yvette chauviré themselves 👍

      Nunez is a different generation and can dance anything. Humour, drama, subret. ANYTHING. Guillem is my idol but so is nunez a lovely, modest, and has an incredible stage presence.

    I still remember from my youth long time ago that those ballones in the variation to be the absolute calf killers. This is the hardest pas de deux evver. She just made it her own.
