    This is THE best presentation of a homemade KMG grinder on youtube!! You've built a very nice machine there.

    I know you said you've been busy, but I'd also like to get some basic plans for this too.
    Very nice design and very flexable for many more setups.
    Thank you

    great machine, looks easy to adjust, i was in the belt business for most of my life abrasive belts remove metel 10 times quicker than bonded wheels, can i suggest to keep dust to a minimum you arrange a tank with water in just under the contact wheel this takes all the sparks and dust you also have somewhere to quench your metal after grinding, belt machines produce a lot of debris and dust in workshops and the wet tank stops this you only need a couple of pints of water to get good results

    You are a genius and talented, thank you
    I think better if you provided protection tools, especially grinding of paper, if grinding paper cut it will hurt
    I suggested make cover over and down grinding paper.

    Wow...Guess I don't know how to take this one! I'm one of those guys that has to do everything myself, so I have little or no time to have a life. I am on the other hand close to finishing a project at home that will free up my life again. I do plan on making up some cool plans that I was thinking of selling on ebay or something just to cover my time. ( few bucks) Would like to make plans and video to go with. I have made some more improvements to the grinder and have a few more planned. JD

    @taiden grizzly catalog has a 10 inch wheel for around 87.00 or so. just look up their knife grinders and their other grinders and go to the parts page. the idler wheels on their 2x27 grinder are available for around 25.00. You will need a 1.75" OD bearing to us them tho. I am going to try using them as the power and tracking wheels.

    I too will be building one of these. In a few months of looking at various videos yours looks probably the best to me. Very nicely done. As I draw on a computer for a living I can create plans for this. I can do from scratch or with your help. if you have anything you can share such as the bearings you chose, and as many dimensions that you may have recorded. Best regards and thanks for sharing these 2 videos.

    Hi Jon,
    Awesome project!! Will you pls let me know as well when you finished the plans. If possible can you let us know the sizes of the contact wheels, drive wheel and adjustment "crowned" wheel that you used? Will also appreciate it if you could let us know where you bought them from. thanks.

  • @bluecrush4x4
    @bluecrush4x4  11 років тому

    They are one of the ways you can adjust the tracking. There is also adjustments in the top wheel. I am in the final stages of finishing the plans FYI. I know who ever reads this has heard it before, but I have been getting some help from a CAD friend and the plans are back in action. I got the wheel/pulleys from Grainger. Sorta depends on how you go with things. you can go to Grainger.com and find what you need, or there are other options.
    Take Care!

    Fantastic design and grinder. My only complaint is that you need to change your video title to distinguish your Mobi-dick grinder from all the hundreds of other home made grinder videos. Your title needs to include the number of videos. e.g. Mobi-dick belt grinder part 1 of 2. - Mobi-dick belt grinder part 2 of 2. I sure would appreciate plans and a list of parts and suppliers.

    Estoy buscando un diseño de lijadora y despues de estudiar detenidamente muchos videos , no me ha costado identificar a este y con gran ventaja como el mas versatil y simple. Gracias por compartirlo. Si le tomaste fotos al proceso de construccion y montaje y nos las mostraras seguramente te ganarìas el cielo sea cual sea tu religiòn. ¿Has construido otras màquinas?. Saludos.

    Here is some general info that some have asked for. I misplaced my binder with all my info, but it turned up yesterday. The grinder has a 2hp, 1800 rpm motor, 6" drive wheel in back, tracking wheel is 3 1/2 x 2 1/2, rubber contact wheels are 2", 3" and large one is 8". Hope this helps........

    Im honestly quite impressed. the only thing i could suggest is having something to take the tension off that spring tensioner for changing belts, that way you get consistent tension. you could use a lever binder, its what they use to put tension on chains when securing heavy loads. hope im describing it right for you, if not just google "lever binder." would be a quick easy way to do it.

    • @bluecrush4x4
      @bluecrush4x4  6 років тому

      It was really just a calculated guess. I wanted to have enough travel and tension, so I moved the spring up and down the arm till it felt right. Also changed the height of the mount the spring sits on. Pretty much trial and error.

      It's an inline or push style toggle clamp. Most apply force perpendicular to the plane on which it is mounted. This kind applies force in line with the plane on which it is mounted. Very useful! I keep a couple of each type on hand because I never know when I'll need one, or which kind, next. :)
