Cool got my screen shots and materials. This is gonna be great for my knife making and more. A big thanks for sharing. And for the critics Yes it's simple but when someone shares things like this it just makes it easier for others to get a better vision. Great job Jon!
Very nice versatile machine Jon, I particularly like the head with 2 different Dia. wheels with multi position as well as a grinding rest. Cheers from John.
Meybe just the best one on yt! Very versatile! It could be used for woodworking, knife and straight razor making....cleaning, polishing ! You name it! I wont bother you for plans, since i think in metric! :D Also, this is one model that can be made of ANY size, with just about any motor, and any number of gears. One just has to figure out for himself what speed ratios he would need, and get according motor. Everything else is up to imagination ! :) Just don't remove video for some time of next three or four months. Not everything is available here! :)
i was in the abrasive belt business for 20 odd years saw machines from 6 inch wide to 48 inch wide half horse power to 120 horse and yours ranks with the best ,you have slack of belt plattern quick contact wheel chane and portable have you tried 3m trizact belts at all they go down to 2000# finish, brilliant machine market one for the diy market, it is all most people want
Hi...... I have never had any issues with the belt at all. I use a Power Twist belt. It was recommended when I was building the sander. I was a bit skeptical, but it works great! You can see it stretch on start up. I don't even really have it that tight. Hope this helps. Search "Power Twist V Belts"
Trick belt grinder!! Those plans?? I know when you make something great everyone wants one including me.LOL ..Waiting by my computer!! LOL Great machine and design. Thanks for sharing!! George
Thanks Steve! I really only posted a video of the grinder because there was interest in it. I really just made it for myself. If I had the energy and time, I could finish the plans for this thing in a weekend. Just never works out with family stuff. Will see what I can do. Winter is here..... Take Care
I found a couple of issues with my drive belt and it was shaking also. I made some changes today that should help that area and may also stop the sanding belt from shaking. Thanks for the reply i really like the design and I think I will get the problems solved. It has to be something in my work. thanks I will let you know how it goes.
I love your sander and would like plans, I love shit that's OVERBUILT.....Yes the cads are a bitch, I'm working on some for my Zipmax....., I want to build one like yours and am all too happy to let someone else do the R&D for a change! Keep up the good work and let me know when the plans are ready. Thanks, macbruceter
thanks for that. I've been looking at you tube for days compiling ideas for a diy. Yours is definitely the best one yet in my opinion. Not over or under built, elegantly simple and versatile. Your video will give me the basics of what I want to do and I've got the sense of direction I was after. I also like your style. Too many longwinded videos out there. The guy who runs the pizza joint in my neighborhood is like that in real life. Thanks- Mark
Great work on the Belt Grinder. I am planning on building one this winter when things slow down a bit. Any chance you could make a video going over your design so that we could have a better look at how it is put together and what point should be considered for building such a machine? Thanks -- TMFA
@bluecrush4x4 This is brilliant! Can't wait to check out the plans. Will your plans include a materials list? Especially curious as to the wheels you are using and the total cost.
i just finished a grinder like this and it works but I am having trouble with belt slap. It just jumps up and down between the wheels where the belt is slack. did you have any of that when you started yours up. this is a great design and I am looking forward to smoothing things out with the belt.
Like your grinder and would like to know where to get the plans for it and if you like i would be happy to do a solid works model for you. I have build a few machines but never a belt grinder and looking for a new project to do
Very nice machine. With regards to the plans, why don't you just make the hand drawn version available. Although it would be nice, many of us were around before CAD/CAM & don't need them. Cheers
Is there going to be an update with build ideas or plans? I know that you said your were working on it about 7 months ago and just thought I would check up to see if you had gotten around to it. Thanks --TMFA
Hey All...... I'm sorry for the delay in these plans. I have had to many irons in the fire for about two years now! I really started to get the plans in action and then things got real busy again and I guess it is one thing i can push aside (the plans) I have some of the parts in cad and some still in the works. Just wanted put out something nice. Let me see what I can do........ Thanks!!
Wow........... Thanks!! It was a combination of all the best grinders I looked at and tried to put it all the things I liked in one package. I still have a few more thing I'm going to add when I have time. Eventually, I'll make a new better video and possibly some plans. Take Care!
@bluecrush4x4 Cool sander, however from a safety point of view there are to many rotating parts that can make for a bad day at the hospital. Some kind of guard over the varius belts would make it a lot safer. My hat off to you for rest.
The plans have been the "Monkey on my back" or "White Elephant" you pick. I pretty much have everything complete except the CAD drawings. I have had several say they will crank the drawing out, but always seam to flake. Anyway, I am playing with Solid Works on my own and am trying to get them done myself. Never thought it would drag on like this. Thanks for the interest and stay tuned!
A great video and grinder. Thanks very much. Do you know how many feet are passing over your tool rest per minute? What is recommended for these machines grinding metal. Thanks
Jon awesome design! Did you ever get a print put together for this build? I am more so interested in the size of the main square tube and the main slide collar. Great work!
Hey was just wondering if you could help me out in any way you can, I'm starting out and making knives just like a lot of people and like everyone else it's defiantly the best I have seen by far what motor did you use and do you have plans sorry to be a pain and yeah great job and awesome machine have a good one
Very nice design! Appears to have minimum number of welds. Where did you get the wheels from? Expensive? Are there lock washers keeping the tension for the position of the platen, or a spring, or? Thank you for posting the videos!
Thats the nicest sander I have seen on youtube. I keep seeing comments below about plans but I am not finding any. Do you have some? Have some to sell?
Hi Jon, very nice belt grinder. I've also built mine and i face small issue with the tracking of the belt. When i start and stop the grinder the belt is moving left and right before it aligns, yours seems to be very stable! I can't find a position where the belt don't move, i can't let the grinder alone for 1 min without re-align... Do you have any advice regarding the wheels or anything else which would help me? Thank you in advance
Hi...... did you make the wheels, or purchase? The drive wheel is slightly domed and the top wheel is rounded so that it will track. That is also where you adjust. Hope that helps.......

im thinking about 6x2" & 4x2" caster wheels with the thin flat polyurethane bands for belt wheels for a rig Im planning, think those would suffice? thanks, nice rig.
Hey Gene, I'll get going and finish the plans. I got a Go-pro for my birthday, so maybe I'll make a few updated videos to play with the camera. It'is a sweet machine! Thanks, Jon
Jon Davis , good night! You commercializes belt sanders ? It can send me the measurements, engine type , pulleys, etc., so I build an identical ? I am Brazilian and I'd love your answer. Valdemar Teodoro
Hey man nice work I hate to be the broken record but some plans would be even ruff guesstimates and some more I depth pictures I can do the rest pm me that thing is sweet I hope to here from u
Hey Bomber, I'm still here. I will try and see what I can do. Sorry to drag the plans on so long. Just wanted to put out a quality set of plans. At the minimum, I will make a new video with more details. Thanks!
That pro-grade.....better than most all the big brands on the market. Well thought out motor placement and features.
Cool got my screen shots and materials. This is gonna be great for my knife making and more. A big thanks for sharing. And for the critics Yes it's simple but when someone shares things like this it just makes it easier for others to get a better vision. Great job Jon!

I was in bit of a guess. I welded two valve springs together I had sitting around, and it worked good.
I have got to build something like this! Great Job. Thanks for sharing.
Dude.....sweet machine......gotta get on those plans.
