- In this Belle Epoch Deluxe introduction Howard's explains the design process and circuitry of the Belle Epoch Deluxe and Epoch Pre. The new Belle Epoch Deluxe will give you a bigger, warmer, and more dimensional sound. Howard reproduced the circuit of the EP-3 exactly, mirroring the schematic of the Echoplex with the same power supply, preamp, record amplifier, playback amplifier, mixer stage, and feedback loop. The only difference is that there is no record or playback head. In its place is a digital delay line. The Belle Epoch Deluxe is the closest thing you'll get to a vintage EP-3 without the tape! Belle Epoch Deluxe does not compromise on sound!
The video also touches on some of the sounds capable using the 6 Echo Programs available on the Belle Epoch Deluxe and expression pedal function!

I want one ASAP- and the Epoch Pre- but my El Capistan won't be going anywhere. I want 'em both for different things; I'll probably put the Belle Deluxe in front of the amp, and keep the El Cap in the 'loop.
I love the "Crinkle" splices, defects and artifacts sounds available on the El Cap- is there any such thing to be coaxed out of the Belle Epoch Deluxe, beside overdriving the Record Level? ('S fine if there isn't! I'm still buying one!)

This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. I run all my amps hot and overdriven so I haven't been able to find a functional echo/delay unit with enough power and attitude to stand up to that...they always end up sounding sterile or flakey. This sounds killer into that cranked Marshall - sold
when he hits it @12:00, all I thought was "why would you want anything else?", which of course I know there are tons of other great sounds.. but the point is this is a heck of a pedal here. Great sound.

5 minutes in and i'm already sold. I've been looking for a "good" tape delay for a while now. By "good" i mean something that makes me start chucking $20 bills at people. The new echoplex pedal got me 90% there. This pushed that last little bit over the cliff

90% of the pedal videos I have seen remind me of “The Emperors New Clothes” when they get to the before and after.
This video is not one of those because this pedal is amazing. The street price of $305 isn’t cheap nor is it overpriced for what you get. The video convinced me to buy one and I’ll be back to let you know what happens next.

Very nice. I used a Deluxe MemoryMan into a Qtron for a while and found some very interesting sounds could be conjured by filtering the repeats. Absolutely want to check this one out.
I love how two of the heaviest "effects", echoplex and leslie rotary speaker, are crammed into this awesome little box. So good!
4 years later and it's still my favourite delay. This and the Line 6 Echo Park!
Does it hiss and make noise. Does the preamp suck the volume too? Love the sounds on this.
@@sgall161 it does if u listen really hard for it. Its comparable to the noise of a tube amp if anything, something you'd never notice live or while recording. No volume dips tho. Whatever the preamp is in here i dig it!
@musicworks408 thanks for the prompt reply. I just hear people complain about the volume drop due to the echoplex preamp then it also saying it colours your sound too much. I need to watch more and read up more. Was thinking about getting the Boonar Echorec. It's a toss up between the two. Have you tried that one?
@@sgall161 yeah and everyone has different sensitivities to that stuff too. For me a super "clean" or "noiseless" sound is less important than other things, but some ppl can't stand any noise and base their rig around that minimization of hiss or tone loss.
Boonar looks amazing, completely different type of delay but I'd like to try it one day!

Just kidding. I am not sure how I will use the delay. I usually add delay post in DAW. I wanted the way the BED seems to change the tone running it before the amp. I have seen people complain that it changes the sound, but for me that is the main selling point. The Echoplex tone is iconic if you ask me.

I own and tour with a real EP-3. If I needed a replacement or substitute for it, this would be my pick. This really reminds me of the sound my Echoplex, preamp and all. The analog delay, MM vibrato, and rotary functions are brilliant.

Marc Bolan was the King of 70's slapback. The Deluxe is certainly on my list, what are the chances of an updated version with built tap tempo and a few pre-set options? btw - Just got in the Soft Focus, and was lukewarm on it, but after a few more hours of playing with it, it's really incredible.

Yes, one which doesn't darken my entire guitar signal when the pedal is engaged.
I am torn about this pedal. On one hand, I think it is capable of the best sounding tape emulation I've ever heard, especially the way it self oscillates. Better than the El Cap. However, there are 2 issues preventing me from loving it. First, the way the knobs are calibrated makes it difficult to find the sweet spots in each of the modes. The Record Level knob especially I find doesn't have much usable travel length. It gets too hot very quickly. Second, and this is the bigger issue - the point on the feedback knob where the pedal reaches self oscillation is different in each of the modes, which means that if you're like me and like to hover right around the point just before it shoots off into infinity, switching between modes can quickly cause the pedal to start feeding back like crazy and it can potentially damage your ears or speakers. So this makes it a bit difficult to recommend for a live situation where you might be moving knobs quickly. I find I have to turn the feedback knob down before changing modes and then find the spot again in the new mode.
Catalinbread, if you're listening, please reissue this pedal with just a bit of different calibration on the knobs to increase the usable range of the knobs and match up the self oscillation points on the different modes, and maybe include the ability to toggle on and off some sort of limiter to prevent the feedback from going too ham.

Does the delay have the same preamp as the pre? I missed that. My original belle epoch is dying…needs new jacks or something. Been trying the EP boost and the secret pre but still not like the old echoplex I had. The key is really the preamp for me the delay is just delay until it gets old and funky. I see the preamp is not for sale anymore? If the deluxe has the same preamp I’m buying it! I regret selling my dls pedal…the feel of that pedal was really close to a real Marshall.

In the first slap back example. I'm not understanding how you're getting slap back when the "echo delay" knob on the right is at the highest setting. I just got the pedal and I'm copying the settings but this gives me a long delay.

No it's just unity gain like an EP 3. But yes there is trails/bypass switch.
George O'Donoghue Thanks George... but I have 2 original EP-3 and both of them give a slight boost alongside the "magic colour" of the preamp.
I also have a standard BelleEpoch, which for me is the only Pedal that recreates that preamp colour and slight boost... anyway, I'll try the new Deluxe asap
Ok I've never played an EP3, just going by what people like Howard have said that there isn't a boost.
It has tb/trails switch but the Dlx doesn't have adjustable gain. It is exactly like an EP-3 which is a bigger feel but not necessarily boosty feeling. However, when you run other pedals into it, they feel bigger and wider!
