The ratio of rock to noise...
Love it.
I just got this pedal today, the hiss is nominal. I played this thing for 2 hours straight without even playing with the settings much, found a sound I liked and jammed. What a pleasure to play, rich and full sounding. Feels like it is playing along with you, rather than trying to fit the repeats into your note/chord choices. I'm very happy. Thanks Howard & Catalinbread.
Its so refreshing that they publicized a video about something people find a drawback. its a shame CBread no longer has any of the engineers who designed this , the Echorec, + all their pedals. Echorec is probably my fav pedal + i've tried around 100.
Yep. They've killed their innovation with that move. Not buying any of the new designs.
@@Diax1324oh wow! I heard there was something bad over there, but I didn’t know it was something like this!😮
Fantastic pedal, love it, will never get rid of it
Right. very versatile. If you have not, I found the same volume/expression pedal Henr has. The Dunlop. It works for Volume, expression(TRS cable very important) to plug into you Belleepoch deluxe and an input for you tuner. No power is required for the Dunlop pedal that manages these 3 functions excellent. I got mine for under 70.00 used on ebay Good luck.
Howard... I have the older Belle Epoch and love it. I leave it in buffered mode and love the fattening up of tone from the EP-3 style preamp. Ya'll make some excellent, thoughtful gear and I've love more of your pedals on my board... Gonna have to get a bigger board first! Howdy from Portland!
Polythene Pam! Just tried the deluxe and cannot say I heard anything extraneous ( compared with the classic belle and dunlop echoplex), just sweet delay. Then again, I don't really mind the 60-cycle hum of my strat either - part of the deal. Killing the noise means going clinical (=digital) like Howard says, and then maybe strymon is your bag? They do that prolly the best. Not the first time chatroom chatter got into its own feedback loop and spun out of context... still, if someone feels that there is too much noise, I respect that as an opinion - trade it back and keep looking. I will be happy to get a deluxe one of these days - just so tasty!
I enjoy some warm hiss when I hit that on switch- lovin' the pedal, thanks for all the work you guys put into it-
Great explanation. I actually like a bit of background hiss....things sound unnaturally sterile when everything is dead quiet.
Henery, Your effects are the only things that will keep rock & Roll alive. I see classic rock vaporizing more & more everyday.I have found in the event an individual wants to create their own brand of classic rock, Your pedals are crucial. Dave Friedman, Catalinbread to retaning the good old sound. Our part, which is not easy, is to compose what the masses are willing to pay for to own and go see. The music I hear being released today, does not have a long lasting effect on the listener.
Mine has more hiss than what is being demonstrated in this video. Someone who had similar hiss with theirs sent it in and was told it was operating as intended. Great sounding pedal but mine is easily as noisy as the Echoplex in this video. I will be keeping my BED and it is basically always on but for my use this video does not represent what I am hearing in the room at higher echo volumes Maybe it is my amp or the way this video was recorded...who knows.
I also don't understand why people have to be critical of anyone who has been having some questions with the noise this pedal produces. It appears from this video that the people who actually made the pedal can handle constructive criticism and questions better than you. We are talking about a pedal not a takedown on you personally.
Ryan noise etc comes from everywhere, that pedal is amplifying noise from your signal chain. Electronic noise changes from electric sockets even.
The noise floor from my rig is about tripled when the power bar that my computer is plugged into is turned on. As an example.
Correct
When's the epoch booster coming out?
I'm guessing these people that are complaining have never played through a high-gain amp. That's where you really hear a strong hiss. It sounds like a waterfall right behind you. This is not even close to sounding like that.
What side should the toggle switch be on if you don't have an expression pedal? Does it matter?
We should compare levels of hiss between Memorex and Maxell played through a Nakamichi or Fisher tapedeck, and then a Sony Walkman vs an Alpine car stereo... Then people will understand hiss. Ugh... Complain about something more important, please.
I have a 30 year old technics tape deck and it barely makes noise. I think people whine too much about tape noise in general...it's not that bad, not even on the cheap walkmans, that is if you clean the head.
Napkin Shoplifta' I get it. I am just making a point that I don't mind a little hiss.
edtriv don't worry about it, if anything this is addressed to whiny millennials
@@napkinshoplifta5163 I saw way more Gen X and Boomers complaining about this than Millenials. Millenials can barely afford this stuff.
What kind of speakers are in your Marshall and pickups in your Epiphone? Sounds nice and hollow and I’m trying to figure out what contributes to that.
Long story short - some people like to cry about minor things.
Hey I'm interested in using this pedal as an outboard effect in my studio would you recommend reamping when using it that way ?
Is that the Gary Clark Jr. signature epi? Sounds killer
IT IS!! I have one too, it's his "Blak & Blue" Signature Casino. Absolutely love this guitar.
EP-3, warts and all, except for damn tape jams. Is that not the Holy Grail?
The Rubberneck has quite a lot in some vids
Hello. Cool tone. What is the signal chain from guitar to amp? Thx
This unit utilizes A J fet preamp like the original Echoplex anyone who has played an original ep-3 Echoplex knows how noisy they could be
Is there supposed to be some signal passing through when the pedal is disengaged and in trails mode? I can hear faint repeats and if the sustain is up it will start oscillating the signal /white noise.
Is this normal? I thought all signal was killed going to the delay loop when the pedal was turned off and in trails mode.
I've read something similar about the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall as well
I really don't understand why people get so upset about hiss. Same people tend to also complain about your lack of tap tempo lol
Austin Arthur i would love to have a tap tempo input jack!
I reckon that's Purple right there
The expression pedal set to V takes care of the hiss.
The pre amp makes the tone fat. Very nice for a glassy strat.
I really like the new BED. Had the original BE and replaced it with a BED, which was a huge upgrade! I use the pedal for fly-out gigs where I can't bring my real tape echo and it does a really great job. The hiss is really no problem. One thing I'd like to ask though: There's some popping occurring when I kick in the oscillation switch. The problem is that this pop goes into the self-oscillation and become very notable. I took it back to the shop where I brought it and tried the two other units he had there. The problem was also there with the other units, but not quite as loud. I do use a high quality power supply etc. Is there any way to fix this, would it be possible to retrofit a relay switch? I love the BED and will keep it and use it even with this setback, but it would be super cool if it was fixable.. Thanks!
You could upgrade the oscillation swich with a soft swich (3dpt) or...you could use a momentray (push to make,no latching) swich?? this would mean the oscillation/feedback loop is only active when you foots on the switch...its a modification but the pop/lacthing mechanism would go,. loooking at the pcb I see no reason why taking out the old one and soldering in a new one would damage anything if your careful,.there's a daughter board for the delay line that is connected via two strips of ic pin connectors,I wouldnt separate that just leave it if your working on the pcb...obviously you would need to get a 3dpt momentray (9 pin not 6 pin) as a portion of the swich also takes care of the status led for the oscillation swicth...also I'm guessing this suggestion would voild warranty etc so there's that but I don't see why it would be and issuse if your confident with the work.
problem is that with a boost/OD in front the BED becomes VERY noisy... unfortunately I had to send it back
That's a shame..I put overdrives after it and it's hardly noticeable..I think you lose the tone have it last..I put this first only fuzz I'll put before...
Be better if it was a 1 to 1 copy just without the tape.
It is.
Saving my pennies...
Tap tempo ...no !!??
too much whining about things that make classic sounds..marshalls hum, les pauls are hard to tune and delays hiss.. why do people want lifeless music?
Needs an FX loop to insert items like a Boss 10 band EQ and a compressor to smooth out the digital wankiness
Yes this pedal is NOISY. It was created to be EXTREMELY authentic and they did a BANG-UP job of it - but I think it was taken TOO far. Yeah, that old vintage equipment sounds great, but back when it was popular, that excess noise wasn't exactly a DESIRABLE thing, it was just a product of the technology of the time. We have better technology now, so take advantage of it. Just know, if you buy this, expect a certain amount of self-noise. If you're playing at full blast, you can't hear it very much. But as soon as you stop, or if you have quiet passages, expect you will be able to hear it. The preamp noise inherent in the original EP was duplicated for this pedal, and if you have an OD channel, or any guitar sound that has gain, this will be AMPLIFIED. I am selling mine. If I had known what I just typed here, I wouldn't have bought it. Both THIS pedal, and the Belle Epoch BOTH have this self-noise. Just FYI.
Thanks for the info
All hiss is bad🦄
