This guy is a really good reviewer! The Hybrid is the way to go for sensible people who want a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY NICE CAR. The V8 is for people who think they are professional race car drivers turned loose on the public roads to terrorize everyone. I've got the 2018 V8 and if I had to do it all over again, the Hybrid would have been my choice. Yes, it's really fun to have the power and sound of that V8 but 99% of the time I'm just driving from here to there and enjoying the comfort and quality of the car. That's the realistic part of the equation. Guys who want race cars should be buying those 600-800 horsepower supercars from Germany, Italy and of course Chevrolet. They will probably wind up killing themselves or some other people chasing their fantasies and not having the good sense to remember the roads are public highways and not race tracks. I've been driving a 435 h.p. 1969 Corvette since 1970. It's been my daily driver for all these years. As a younger guy I definitely did stupid stuff but as you get older, you just grow up, mature (a bit) and just want to "get there safely". I understand youth and now I'm getting to understand old age. The LC 500 is NOT A RACE CAR. Don't buy one for that reason. It is arguably the nicest car available today....especially for the money. Unlike those other cars, this one will spend very little time in the shop being repaired and when it needs something, it won't cost an arm and a leg to get the part. I would encourage anyone who is interested in buying a wonderful automobile to go test drive both versions of the LC 500. You will fall in love. If you decide to buy one, the choice is relatively easy as long as you are honest with yourself. I succumbed to the fantasy. I love my car but would definitely get the Hybrid if given the opportunity to choose again.
I used to have an older LS600 long wheelbase. It was so unreliable. I switched to the new at the time S63 AMG and it's been reliable for 150k miles and going strong. Always garage kept and maintained. The extra cost of maintenance is well worth the driving pleasure, elegant design and safety.
Even though I´m German myself, I have to agree. BMWs are made of cheap materials like plastic, therefore they break down all the time and Audis are nothing special unless we´re talking about top-of-the-line models like the A7/A8/RSx, yet they cost a fortune. Mercedes Benz are kind of the sweet spot. They´re not too unreliable, they look really good and they feature a substantial and usable amount of tech without breaking your bank too hard. Porsches on the other hand, are made of quality materials, they´re reliable, worth the money and pure driving machines. Still, it´s JDM over everything for me.
I see plenty of retired professionals with thick wallets doing lots of cruising. This hybrid would be amazing for the the mountain road trip. Great review. I'm picking up my LC today. It was a hard choice. I looked at the Maserati GT, used 911 turbo and a used Ferrari California. The California and the Maserati were the two best for me. Both had a naturally aspirated 457hp engine and in the case of the Ferrari, the power to weight ratio along with everything else just made it the clear winner, despite being a 9 year old car. I was deeply disappointed in the 2008 911 Turbo. That turbo lag was horrific and hit really didn't handle as well around corners as I thought it should. I ended up on the LC. I thought it had a good compromise with what I wanted. I want reliability and I'm willing to sacrifice the performance more. I've been a long term Lexus owner. I can recommend the Maserati and Ferrari California if you want a fast and sexy car that may not be as reliable.
While the 5.0L V8 is probably the driver's choice, for the luxury GT mission the LC is trying to get at, I actually pick the hybrid version as the better car. It won't be as fun to push hard & there's no eargasm when you prod the gas pedal, but this is the quieter version thanks to the EV mode operation & you'll be stopping much less for fuel.
no lie, your reviews and the in-depth look into cars w/out bias is fantastic. the editing quality and transitions in your quality etc etc is great. the best on youtube imho. you definitely need more subs and views! thanks for amazing vidoes!
We were just in Geneva for the Concours D'lagance this past weekend and they had a bunch of them, it truely is a concept car that can be purchased (if you have the money)
This car speaks to me, especially with the hybrid drivetrain. I don’t think I will ever buy a new car that sells for $100k but I’m in love with the idea of a car this fast that can get such high mpg and still have Toyota/Lexus reliability. If a more affordable car had this drivetrain I’d buy it. Maybe that’s where Toyota is heading with their sports cars in the next 10 years.
Great review Interesting car no doubt about it, if I was to buy one I'd get the V8. I think manufacturer's need to do a rethink on ride comfort in urban settings instead of sacrificing it for outright performance. I think personally tyre sizes and wheels have gone too far.
Bought my 500h last year and still loving the car. The only problem I have come across is with the gearing, sometimes it simply loses the plot and especially when I want to play. Not too much of a biggy for me, but can be annoying. I've no problem with the soundtrack, but if it could be turned off at will, I'd be okay with that. As a package, I just adore the car and the presence it brings to the road. Frankly, I do not believe there is a better looking car currently on the market and one that oozes far more quality than cars costing 2 maybe 3 times as much.
I hope Lexus does hybrid sports cars instead of forced induction. For example instead of twin turbo V8(m5, e63s), rear wheel drive V8 with 2 hybrid motors in the front
They are working on turbo v6s and turbo v8s for their F-Sport models. A hybrid setup with extra motors and batteries is simply too heavy for sporty driving unless you make the entire body carbon fiber which would be far too expensive.
That hood shot looking in IS FREAKING AMAZING!!! Geeze I always love how you shoot. Even if its a car im not interested in, you still have my view just for your skill and indepthness.
Most car enthusiasts (like myself), think that for a car to be good it should have a v8, good sounds and HP+trq and we bash on Toyota for doing the opposite. But you know what? Those guys at Toyota knows exactly what the majority wants - quiet, smooth, dull and good mpg. That's why they have been selling cars by the millions! I have a modified BMW 335i and a tuned Lexus IS350 with swapped 2JZ and everyone in my family hates those because they are noisy and stiff. They said, it's hard to drive. They said they would never trade their their Audi A4, Toyota Camry and Corolla for my cars.
After all the hate he puts on BMW now he likes a ``sports car`` ` that weights 2000kg, X3 M40i its 1800kg 540i is 1640kg they are faster , with much better transmission and sound and muuuch more practical. The chanell its nice but he is such a hypocrite. The car looks very good but this is the only thing .
I personally would prefer hybrid over V8. I am not going to take this car to track, and for the city and highway driving this should be more comfortable and cheaper while having almost the same 0-60 time. But, still, considering its price comparing with the V8 I think Lexus could have done better. Put more powerful battery, that gives at least ~100hp. I do not think it should be a problem if Tesla can get from their batteries ~600 hp.
A very fine review, both in thoughts and opinions, and visually as filmed. A beautiful car for sure, my thoughts are the 'rhythmic gear change' and synth' engine is pure Gran Turismo video game influenced, very artificial. Cars of this quality should be quiet, or at least have that option when the sound is basically a V6 ringtone..
Yea... but remember it's a hybrid V6. If sound and a visceral experience is what you want, obviously the V8 is the car for you. That's the one I'd get, no doubt. To HELL with MPG. The noise is glorious!
Fantastic review as always, thank you. I am looking at ordering an LC 500. First, I have to have the V8, but my question for you is the wheel size. In your driving of both LCs, do you think the 20" wheel helps with the ride over the 21"? My dealer has one car to test drive, and it has the 21" wheels. We plan to get the car in blue with the tan interior. In owning many different cars in over a 50 year span time, the interior is the one of the finest, cut and stitched materials I have seen.
Lexus vehicles with AVS always seem to be ridiculously firm. My 16'RX has a firmer suspension setup than my 17' Miata. So disappointing for someone who bought a Lexus trusting the ride quality.
We've had a hybrid Lexus for 17 years. It is actually worth more than the non-hybrids, especially when fuel is so expensive. Used LC500hs are hard to find.
@@davepaturno4290 I believe it. This is a great example of how times have changed. 3 years ago when I wrote the original comment hybrid cars (for the most part) we’re depreciating really fast.
So I know about your little incident with the vehicle and I hope you do maybe a fine print on that whole experience...and maybe your perspective on crash mitigation tech in general
John-Michael Shaw What happened? Watching this, noticed he did not say anything negative on the hybrid or the other electronics, which sounded odd. Anyway great review and this car has awesome color indeed.
Sounds awful when driven hard. Totally incongruous with the rest of the car, IMO. And I usually prefer the sound of a six over an eight. IMO, you buy the V8 or look elsewhere. This drivetrain may well be acceptable in the LS 500h, but not in the LC. And if it's just a cruiser for ageing poseurs, why is the ride so harsh?!
Savage If the V8 is a classic Will the classic be pre historic in a few years time because of emission regulation. Or the LC500H is the future even with EV because the charging is taking too long for long haul trip so hybrid is still valid....maybe for the next 15 years.... You did address the matter on who likes this H model.....but how will the ev disruption effect this baby....? I drive a ES300H and love it.
I don't get it, if you're going to fork $110,000.00, why would you care about MPG at that point? I mean the CVT is not even seamless it simulate shift gear, why?
I have to come up with choice between the new Mercedes 2022 S class AMG line convertible Cabriole at $170,000 loaded for this car loaded I don’t know which one you get built
Your driver seat shots from outside the windshield take your videos to another level. I love that I never see the camera mount from the shots inside the car. Very cool.
I`m sorry but how you can say that transmision is almost like a conwecional automatic when a can ewen hear the diffrence. Witout driving it. V8 all the way.
Loudlevin RCF’s chassis is too heavy. Even a stripped down version of the LC’s chassis to be retrofitted to the new Supra would cost too much. Also, I don’t think the LC’s chassis was designed to be an effective modular chassis.
Excellent detailed and thorough review! I'd probably get the V8 over the hybrid. I've driven both and the V8 is a better Driving Experience. The hybrid costs a little more and wasn't as fun.
As more and more vehicles are made as EVs, I think the hybrid LC will fit right in. I'm wondering if the LC turns into a full EV - faster than the V8 and no more oil changes and smog checks. That will be tempting.
I test drove one a few months back... IF you are not on the 21" wheels... The 20" wheels are so much better and smoother... The super stiff sidewall of the tires on the 21" wheel makes it feel like you are riding on the bare metal wheels.
Thank you so much for this review! Due to EU taxes the V8 is way too expensive. So I really consider the hybrid. As for the "fake engine sound": I remember that they do not electronically enhance it - they just use pipes to channel the noise into the cockpit. Can you please check and confirm this? Great review! Thank you!
Omg, why do you have to act like you know everything. He's just saying that taxes are high in the EU for bif engines, and it's normal :) @@freepadz6241
The only problem with LC500/h is not enough power (for the price). People who buy a two door coupe for $100k+ they expect power and performance, while those who want a luxury car for $100k+ will just buy a 4 door sedan/suv instead. As amazing as this car is, there is simply no market for it.
i did a test drive on the Lc500H. The CVT system is quite slow to react. Same as my IS300H. Also i heard coil whine at low speeds from the electric converter and was annoying. We pay 60000 euro`s extra tax for a LC500 that`s a bummer.
As you mentioned, if you are a road traveler and want to get very good fuel mileage while taking along your significant other, this is car for you. I've seen LC500s with average fuel economy after aggressive driving at 6 miles per gallon. This car will never guzzle gas, nor would a road traveler be driving like a maniac with either LC. My advice is to have both a Mazda MX5 and this car - as long as you don't have a big family.
I enjoyed the video..first time commenting...you kind of burst my bubble when you mentioned the engine noise..I thought it sounded good..especially when you were on it and showing the quick shifts...all in all it wouldn't bother me...that color of blue is amazing as well....heard you on the Smoking Tire podcast and am rewatching some of your videos..enjoying the quality and commentary..keep up the great work.
I don't understand the added sound. It absolutely floors me that they would do something like that. Here is the thing. You can no longer buy a mechanical car for performance the same way you cannot buy a mechanical watch to tell time. A $10k Rolex is absolute shit at telling time but they make a wonderful bracelet. If you have a digital watch that is trying to act mechanical its considered a fake and losses all its value at being what it is, a great device that tells time flawlessly all the time. Car makers need to make a choice soon on performance cars and its going to be a hard one. Build a stick shift mechanical car with zero electronics or build the best. An electric car that drives circles around anything and everything mechanical. This 1/2, 1/2 shit needs go. And no, taking the best from both world will not get you the best the same way getting the best from steam technology will add nothing to a car today.

It won't be as fun to push hard & there's no eargasm when you prod the gas pedal, but this is the quieter version thanks to the EV mode operation & you'll be stopping much less for fuel.
Funny how guys don't put in 1/4 the effort you do and have 500K subs.
The algorithm decides who lives or dies
no lie, your reviews and the in-depth look into cars w/out bias is fantastic. the editing quality and transitions in your quality etc etc is great. the best on youtube imho. you definitely need more subs and views! thanks for amazing vidoes!
Over 150,000 congrats goose!!
That cutout is nothing short of amazing.
LC500h is for Suave people, smooth, calm but fckin badass car
That hood shot looking in IS FREAKING AMAZING!!! Geeze I always love how you shoot. Even if its a car im not interested in, you still have my view just for your skill and indepthness.
The real questions is “does Scottie love it?”
MR.FACTS ARE RACIST no he will not love it because for $100k he can get a TON of 12 year old ESs.
That sounds awful my god😂😂. Nice review though.
Yea... but remember it's a hybrid V6.
Best review of the 500h ! Just bought a used 2018. Looks fantastic
Lexus vehicles with AVS always seem to be ridiculously firm. My 16'RX has a firmer suspension setup than my 17' Miata. So disappointing for someone who bought a Lexus trusting the ride quality.
I'd like to know your thoughts on the new Hybrid NSX.
Auto upshift at redline? Yes please, I don’t want to bang off the rev limiter.
I always give a thumbs up to SG before viewing the video...
Thank you, great video!
That color on LC looks absolutely gorgeous
Cool shirt!!! How can I get a one?
He has a merch link on the website, they are nice shirts....I have 2 of them
Redbubble I believe. Ordered one Friday
I wonder if it’ll suffer the hybrid depreciation like others have. Maybe I could afford one in 5 years.
Julius , you can get a certified one now for 67k. I’m actually looking at getting one!
@@johntyson Yes, and Toyota/Lexus hybrids are mostly rock-solid reliable. They gave hybrids a good reputation.
Simulated 10 speed sounds silly. Aren't they just reducing its actual potential for acceleration?
That's exactly what it does. But, people want form over function. It 'feels' faster to them because it shifts...
Mark, closet Lexus fan?
Love my beloved LC. Thanks for the review - can't wait to review one myself!
Kirk Kreifels my go to go guy for all things Lexus love ur content nice to see that ur also a savage geese fan
LC is just fucking amazing, seen it once in real life and Im in love. I would no doubt pick up a second-hand one if any chances god damnit its amazing
So I know about your little incident with the vehicle and I hope you do maybe a fine print on that whole experience...and maybe your perspective on crash mitigation tech in general
John-Michael Shaw
What happened? Watching this, noticed he did not say anything negative on the hybrid or the other electronics, which sounded odd. Anyway great review and this car has awesome color indeed.
his videography skills are god-tier.
that transmission is sooo bad. How could they do something like this in this car.
looks like LF-A LIGHT
Sounds awful when driven hard. Totally incongruous with the rest of the car, IMO. And I usually prefer the sound of a six over an eight. IMO, you buy the V8 or look elsewhere. This drivetrain may well be acceptable in the LS 500h, but not in the LC. And if it's just a cruiser for ageing poseurs, why is the ride so harsh?!
Savage
If the V8 is a classic
Will the classic be pre historic in a few years time because of emission regulation.
They should have a button to switch the suspension from sport mode to luxury mode for those times you just want smooth quite ride.
I have to come up with choice between the new Mercedes 2022 S class AMG line convertible Cabriole at $170,000 loaded for this car loaded I don’t know which one you get built
Vitamix should sue Lexus for stealing their sound...every time you step on it, it reminds me of blending my morning kale prune juice smoothie..
THE BEST car review channel on UA-cam.
Ew why would they add that fake engine sound, there's no way they thought that would be a good idea? Who would want that fake noise in a hybrid v6
So eventhough its a CVT it functions / drives / feels like a regular conventional automatic?
Finally something that looks as carefully and artistically crafted as 50s cars.
not sure why my kia niro has a much better hybrid geared setup,
6 normal gears and doesnt over rev like toyotas do with their cvt
I love your reviews. Great production quality. My only request would be some static/drive by footage to hear what cars sound like from the outside.
I actually like this more with the smaller wheels. Might just be the design as a whole but I think they look better with the overall car design.
I'm sorry but the transmission now sounds underreved after every gear change...
Why did toyota outsource the supra development to bmw when they could have used a stripped down version of this (non hybrid) or the rc-f.
Loudlevin RCF’s chassis is too heavy. Even a stripped down version of the LC’s chassis to be retrofitted to the new Supra would cost too much. Also, I don’t think the LC’s chassis was designed to be an effective modular chassis.
I am watching this now that you can find one for 60k, and it seems like the best car to get
Excellent detailed and thorough review!
Does anyone else hate the fact they add fake "gears" to a CVT? Can I please just have optimal ratio all the time?
Junk ? I cans believed they made that ? Embarrassing
Cobra chicken strikes again!
The "engine noise" makes me sad...
Ride quality is a deal breaker on the LC.
I test drove one a few months back... IF you are not on the 21" wheels... The 20" wheels are so much better and smoother... The super stiff sidewall of the tires on the 21" wheel makes it feel like you are riding on the bare metal wheels.
great video, not sure I like all that whine from the drivetrain at around 13 minutes, it doesn't sound good at all
There is nothing like this on the market. Phenomenal.
You have the best reviews ever, on both youtube and other medias
Lexus never disappoints.
You are without a doubt the best on UA-cam.
Great review man -- love the way these cars look. Beautiful.
Why do car reviewers think we want to see more of them than the car?
Removed the plastic over the backlights or used other material like metal, and turned the design around the front lights down a notch, a perfect car.
oh and give it a less ugly disgusting front grille.
Great video thank you for your expertise
I think what your trying to say is aluminium not aloooominium
Thank you so much for this review!
Due to EU taxes the V8 is way too expensive. So I really consider the hybrid.
As for the "fake engine sound": I remember that they do not electronically enhance it - they just use pipes to channel the noise into the cockpit.
Can you please check and confirm this?
Great review! Thank you!
No such thing as EU motor taxes. Member states all have their own different motor tax systems, independent to EU.
Omg, why do you have to act like you know everything. He's just saying that taxes are high in the EU for bif engines, and it's normal :)
@@freepadz6241
what a noisy car what a disaster transmission
I wish I had the money to buy this car...
Cvt is fucking sad in this wtf😭😭😭
This guy dont know crap
