    Fox kits usually stay in a particular area, usually they are waiting for mom to come back with food. It's best to leave them be unless you haven't seen the mom show up the following day or so. Thanks for not intervening.

      It seems to also be a Sense of Safety and Trust.
      They feel safe to be in the area, implying that the mother and her kits trust you not to hurt them.

    Whats the difference between a fox pup and a fox kit?
    A fox pup is alone.
    A fox kit comes with all accessories.
    This joke could use some work...

      Well technically, fox kits are pups (or Cubs if you wanna call them that) but I guess you also make a good point cuz when their bigger I guess they are called kits when they are bigger I think

    I just heard one on my carport tonight. Looked out the window and saw what I at first thought was a kitten, but it didn't sound like one so I suspected it was a fox pup since I see fox quite often in my yard. Came here to hear what they sound like and yup, it's a fox pup. Very cute!

    foxs are very handsome looking with their coloration but ive also realized its so they can blend into their environment wich is really cool because the black feet are the cutest of a fox

      Foxes are canids. I also don’t see why people think they’re cats. No similarities

      @@inthewoods5494 The two share features such as slit pupils and retractable claws, but it's mostly got to do with how they behave.

    • @inthewoods5494
      @inthewoods5494 Рік тому

      @@ookami0189 slit pupils are the only thing true foxes share with cats. Grey foxes are the only canid with (semi) retractable claws. They are also not foxes! They are, along with South American “foxes” which are actually more closely related to the jackals, not in the vulpes genus. Grey foxes are in the genus urocyon and are a basal genus that are in a clade with bat earred foxes (another false-fox) and the tanuki, which are basal genre and more closely related to eachother and ancestral canids than the rest of the canidae family. Now about behavior, true foxes do not behave much like cats at all. This is sort of a classic case of people seeing the animal kingdom of “cats vs dogs” regardless of whether the animals we are talking about actually belong in the canidae or felidae family, which, luckily these are canids. However, just because foxes do not behave like animals in the canis genus, doesn’t really mean they behave like cats. There are 12 other genre in the family of canidae and they don’t all behave like those in the canis genus. However if I were to compare fox behavior to any other family of mammals it wouldn’t be to cats, it would be to mustelids, with which they share a lot of the same body language and habits with.

    Ever wonder what it would be like living with a wild, hardly
    domesticated grey fox in your house? A fox that in not confined to a cage at
    any time? It can be best described as living in a Warner Brothers cartoon. The
    book, To Catch a Fox, by D. Michael Policelli, describes it all in vivid,
    hilarious detail and is available on Amazon.

    Where do these live? I've only seen one fox in my life in Hayward, CA close to the bay shore. it was laying in a dirt pile on a construction site early morning. I don't think they're native. I read they were once bred in the area for hunting.

    • @inconnn
      @inconnn Рік тому

      Late reply, but the red fox (which these kits look to be) lives all throughout Eurasia, North America, and some places in Australia. They're not native to Australia though, and some places I've looked say they're native to North America and others say they aren't. From my googling though it looks like they are native since red foxes had spread to the the area about 300k-130k years ago and apparently genetic analysis shows they were separated from European foxes for 400k years.

      I live in a city of about 300,000 and have seen one hunting rabbits within two blocks of the main square. They're mostly nocturnal and build burrows, so they can be pretty elusive. Compared to a lot of other animals, though, they generally don't have a very strong fear of humans and often seem kind of curious about us. Don't know if I've ever seen kits though, that would be wonderful
