The watchers are actually the void original "creature". They are called the watcher because they are starring at the runeterran, burried in ice by lissandra.
Also Lissandra once made a pact with the watcher : as she prepare the world for their coming, she could have the power of the black ice or something like that. But as they came into the runeterran Realm and as all of freljord was trying to stop lissandra, she realized what kind of horror it was. She killed and took the power of everyone, and trapped the watchers into true or black ice. Now she is trying to find a way to get rid of them while hidding the truth of what happened.
Sorry if it's a bit unclear and long but I tried as hard as I could to explain to you the story of lissandra. (Btw the story is really good)

She just wrapped them in the deep of hollowing abiss with a lot of true ice but they're still alive and trying to return.

Lore TLDR: Lissandra made a pact with the watchers which are basically otherworldly gods from the void. She wanted to help them get into the physical world and help her conquer the Freljord in the war against her sisters, Avarosa and Serylda. When the watchers burst into the world and brought all their void horrors with them, Lissandra realized that she could not control them and they might destroy all of existence, so she killed her sisters and used the lifes of the iceborn to freeze the watchers in true ice, trapping them. But she knows that one day, they will break free and so she is looking for a way to get rid of them.
I would recommend Necrit's vidoes on her, she is one of the most interesting characters in the lore so far.
Yeah lissandra's lore is the best beside jinx imo and maybe soon Lux will get more lore because the ruination.
Funny thing about runterra world is that alot of things that can make world end like the void creatures and black mist and noxus sieges and darkens wars and ruines that can be like nuclear weapons for that world

30:40 As a bit of a brief here, the Watcher (or Watchers, really) are basically these eldritch creatures from another dimension called the Void. The Void is this place where basically nothing truly exists, and anything that does is mainly just a warped attempt to imitate stuff that does exist, and it's intention is to destroy Runeterra because Runeterra existing means that the Void knows that it exists and it just despises that, it's like a constant banging on the wall that just keeps going on and on that they can't get rid of to them.
From what I know, the Watchers were the first creatures from the Void to come over to Runeterra through Lissandra, who was tricked into doing so and ever since she realised that (which was like, around the exact time she brought them out into Runeterra) she conjured a massive ice blast to seal them down into the Howling Abyss, where they're frozen in sleep for, as of the modern state of the lore, around 5000 years. Lissandra ever since has been spending every moment of her eternal life trying to stall out the watchers eventually coming back, which is an eventuality, because she kind of doesn't want everything to get completely destroyed. So basically, it's a bad thing because if they come back, then everything's screwed.
There're also not the only creatures from the void to come through, for example, Rek'Sai and her Xer'Sai (gonna be more relevant tomorrow, the Xer'Sai are the shuriman followers we've gotten revealed for the expansion so far) is another, more weaker and primal, type of creature from the void, being these creatures that dig through the sands in Shurima mindlessly hunting for anything living to devour.

Also watcher's only objective is to destroy every fucking thing so if it gets out of control it would probably be the end of runettera.
Fact: In the Lissandra's first lore she was trying to awake the watchers and cover the world in ice but now they updated her lore, she was the person that Froze the watchers at the first place.
With how chaotic and unpredictable the watcher is, I wish their effect was to Obliterate both players' decks. It'd be cool from a lore perspective, and makes it more of a Last Resort kind of play as opposed to it's current state of a go-to wincon.

Rek'sai is a queen monster that lays eggs and barrows underground. She is the first champion introduced to not speak english (sounds).
Lissandra summons the Watcher in game, but that's the least thing she wants to ever happen.
It's quite ironic.
So yeah, it IS a bad thing, that's why she sounds concerned.

Should have used the beach board- it’s got a secret passive that, cause it’s so hot, the frozen thralls melt faster! :D
The interaction at 30:54 in case you didn't know is. Lissandra gets corrupted and swayed by other unknown entities (the void beings) to gain ice power and becomes evil. But she soon finds out that by having gained these powers there was an evil calamity coming from the Void. The Watcher is a really powerful ancient god-like horror entity and Lissandra always talked to the Ice clans and her followers that "The watcher is coming" kind of like Game of thrones. When it does finally show up. There was a battle against it, and to ultimately stop it, since "The Watcher" can't be killed nor dies. She sacrificed her whole clan and other clan nations (ex: Ashe's Mother and Sejuani's parents at the time) uses her power; to freeze everyone in pure condensed Ice with the monster. Since then the Watcher has been entombed, but it's eye ball still moves around in the ice. In case you didn't know; Sejuani's mother, Ashe's mother, and Lissandra are all sisters. So Lissandra is Ashe's Aunt. When she says, "I thought I had more time." It's referring to this moment. as in more time to warn everyone, more time to get everything ready, more time to prevent the Watcher destroying everything and coming, or more time to finally destroy them because she froze them with magical ice and new they would break free from it eventually. Lissandra is still evil don't get me wrong but The Watcher prevented her from becoming a queen and ruling over the nation.

30:44, basically the ancient Freljord used to worship the Watchers as gods, they gave to them powers beyond mortals, they made them Iceborn(the original ones were far more powerfull then the present ones, like Ashe or Sejuani). But at some point Lissandra sister, Avarosa, turned against their masters, and along with her, the other sister Serylda and pretty much all iceborns.
Lissandra took them as traitors and fought against them till the first Watcher set foot on Runeterra, and she realized what were their true intentions. Been left with no other choice, she sacrificed her own people to fuel a powerfull spell that could trap the Watcher in ice, and now thousands of years later(she is immortal) she still trying to delay the Watcher awakening...reason why she says that...despite gameplay wise the Watcher be on her side, they have their own agenda and dont care at all for her, and he obliterating the enemy deck is basically what they will do not only to Runeterra, but the universe as a whole.

I have really missed you man. As I was listing to the podcast I noticed the way you climbed. I climb ladder the same way(wonder why rarely reach masters hmm). This patch I think our Runeterra journey has been really similar. You being back gives me hope. Keep it up m8

Lore for watcher: The watchers are basically the most sinister evil force in runeterra even full power Aurelion Sol would have trouble killing them , lissandra made a pact but realised soon they are a pure evil force, so she betrayed them by freeezing them in true ice which is slowly melting so she just prolonged the inevitable by doing this she sacrificed her own two sisters Avarosa and Serilda which are previous incarnations of Ashe and Sejuani , also the watchers created the void creatures like Rek Sai which invaded shurima and ishtal before , yeah basically they are the center of all evil things happening in Runetera exxluding some like shadow isles ruination which is so small compared to them so lissandra is kind of a dark hero believe it or not sure she did bad thing but for a good cause. While almost the whole frejlord thinks she wants to destroy them and has evil intentions they have no idea what is actually going on even the present ashe and sejuani her two own sisters reincarnations. The watchers existed before time itself so they are that ancient.
It's always wholesome thinking about your "See you in the next runeterra video", it's pre-recorded and even if it goes in the intro of the video you still feel the need to say it. Wholesome.

I haven't read up on it in a while, but as I understood it Lissandra and her sisters made some kind of deal with the Watchers to turn them (and some others) into Iceborn. When the Watchers did turn up and started destroying Runeterra, Lissandra ended up having to sacrifice her sisters and allies to trap the Watchers in true ice. She's now looking for ways to stop them, but firmly believes they'll be back.
Her voicelines are just kind of all over the place. Some make it sound like she's glad they have returned while others imply the opposite.
Either way, she's a fun champion and one of my favorites.

Lissandra is actually keeper of the watchers. Watchers is like devil-void-gods of the runeterra, theyve been since the creation of void. On the other hand Lissandra was one of the 3 ruler sisters of Freljord; Avarosa(Ashe's grand grandmother), Serilda (Sejuanis grand grand mother) and Lissandra. Every sister tried to achieve mystic magic power of freljord, but the 3 gods of Freljord (Anivia, volibear, ornn) take it like a insolence/disrespect. Then volibear ripped Lissandras eyes with his claw. This is where things started.
After lissandra lost her vision, she started to peek dreams, sheve seen many things in dreams, betrayal, fear, VOID, gluttonies of demons... But one day, she saw the inevitable. After she realises watchers wanna come into runeterra with apocalypse, she thought the only way of exit is getting a deal with them. She surrendered her loyalty in exchange of their power. She promised to prepare runeterra for their arrival. Then the watchers give freljordians immortality and power, this is how the frostborns show up. However, avorasa and serilda preferred freedom to eternal life and power. Then the watchers came.
At first they came into the runeterra, they didnt have a proper shape. They saw the mountain goats in the freljord and furry animals, they saw the yetis, they saw the humans. And they shaped like mix of them. After they came, Avarosans declared a war against them, also the war against their followers, frostborns. At the middle of war, watchers came into the field, for obliterate everything. Lissandra knew it was coming, but she had just one moment to choose. She started to cast a spell, the power and knowledge she gained from watchers abled her to do that. The spell started to gathering all frelljords wild magic, her sisters, yetis, even the magic of"they who endure's" and also gathered all of their cold to frost everything. The armies, thralls, yetis, and watchers... they were all frozen in the true ice. With that, Lissandra had sacrificed everything, including her sisters, to stop the watchers. But even that wasnt enough against to creatures which can shape the time and gravity(yeah watchers can also do that, zilean bad lol), so lissandra is still entering their dreams and tries to keep them comfortable, but even for the lissandra, entering the dreams of beings built on destroying everything
is torturing her. But she knew, if they awake again one day, its the end.
So this is the lissandra's redemption arc, and this is why she said "i thought there is more time" or something like that in the video. Actually im not good at english as a pity mortal. 31:02 Lissandra made a deal with the Watchers to make herself and her sisters Iceborns as long as they served them (the Watchers). However, both Avarosa (who would manifest into Ashe) and Serylda (who would manifest into Sejuani) rejected the servitude, so the Watchers got out of hand, and Lissandra sacrificed both sisters to delay their apocalypse with the most powerful Entomb that it's kept until nowadays, but the True Ice is breaking little by little.
So yeah, basically Lissandra's gameplay in LoR is letting strong units come by so ONE of the Watchers can help her... But it gets out of hand after the game ends (I like to translate is as "discovering a new abusable mechanic to make it on the meta").

The awakening of the Watchers isn’t Lissandra’s goal, on the contrary, she’s been keeping them frozen for millennia, as their awakening would not just bring the demise of her enemies, but the end to all things. The Watchers are powerful beings hailing from the Void - Runeterra’s primary antagonistic force - and around 9000 years ago (in the lore) Lissandra made a pact with them. They gave her and her people tremendous power in exchange for preparing the world for their arrival, and promised to kill them last. But when that day finally came, they were ultimately betrayed.
Lissandra, in her regret, sacrificed her own sisters to entomb the Watchers in a “glacial barrier of magical ice” as soon as they broke into reality. Through this process, she’s only delayed the inevitable, and has worked tirelessly to keep the ice from melting ever since.
What makes Lissandra such an interesting character is the fact that even though she essentially doomed the entire world, she is actively fighting against her own doing, and all the while has gained a lot of power and influence for herself. She is an anti-villain, sympathetic but not without faults.
lissandra was meant to be played like this...the SI watcher combo is ridiculous.

Watchers are The masters of void and once lissandra made pact with them , Her sisters find out about that and tried to stop her and then she realised that watchers want to destroy runeterra soo she had to kill her own army her sisters and their armies in order too burry watchers in true ice and now she is trying to keep them in while prepering troops like frostguard thralls to fight them when they break free

I think they did it for gameplay purposes because lurk will rely a lot in predict, the same reason why teemo, lulu, kindred and others are in these regions they aren't from, but this time at least it makes more sense since all xer'sai live in shurima

Of all the tales of the old Freljord that have somehow endured into the modern age, there is one-and one alone-that can chill the blood of even the hardiest Iceborn.
The Frostguard do not tell it. Many of them do not even know it, in full.
By decree of the Ice Witch Lissandra herself, to perpetuate this forbidden legend is heresy against the true faith, and carries the penalty of death for any who speak it aloud. In all the vast libraries of the Frostguard Citadel, only a single written account remains-and that was penned by her most trusted scribe, many thousands of years ago. Few indeed are those individuals across Runeterra who know the truth behind the legend, and Lissandra can count on the fingers of one hand those who were there in person and might dare to contradict her...
It was in the final, dark days of the War of the Three Sisters that Avarosa and Serylda finally marched their warriors up into the mountains, to face Lissandra before the walls of her own fortress. They would not serve the otherworldly masters that she had pledged them to. This would be an end to it.
The Ice Witch gestured to the armies they led, the great alliance that had finally brought these wild lands to heel. The mortal Iceborn were all but immune to the winter's chill. The troll kings had roamed far across the tundra, amassing tremendous wealth from their conquests. Even the magnificent and terrible Balestriders, twisted far beyond their original form, moved now at the command of the Three.
All of this, Lissandra reminded her sisters, was because of the bargain she had made with the masters of the realm below-the beings she knew as Watchers. It was they who had revealed to her the primal secrets of the world. It was they who would have the final victory.
And it was then, at the height of this bitter confrontation, that the Watchers finally came to Runeterra.
The ground split open, swallowing thousands of warriors into the abyss beneath it, before the first of the dread things heaved itself up into existence. It was new to the material realm, bewildered by such notions as form and constancy, and began immediately to rail against them. In a foul riot of unchecked metamorphosis, it sprouted horns, and patches of fur, and its colossal tentacular limbs grew into jointed humanoid arms with fingers that clawed the bare rock of the mountainsides. Worst of all, other Watchers were following closely in its wake, wracked by horrifying transformations of their own.
It might be fair to assume there was a battle, that the Iceborn rallied behind Avarosa and Serylda to fight back the darkness-but in truth, it was Lissandra who ended it. She saw these abominations now for what they were, and knew what had to be done.
Summoning every last iota of the ancient magic around her, including that of her allies, she sacrificed everything to seal the rift-between-realms with True Ice, entombing the Watchers within it. Vast plumes of freezing vapor howled through the chasm, and those mortal warriors who managed to escape were driven to insanity by what they had witnessed.
This, then, is not only the legend of how Lissandra saved the world from destruction, but also the only first-hand account of the martyrdom of Avarosa and Serylda.

So When they arrived at the freljord from the void and Lissandra realized she fucked up, she entombed them and now she tries to keep the watchers frozen forever. If the watchers ever wake up, they will wipe runeterra from existence. That's why when the watchers finally wake up and destroy runeterra, Lissandra says "I thought there was more time"
Edit: Also, yeah its pretty weird that Lissandra isn't exactly good friends with the watchers but somehow the watcher is the big payoff for her deck. Lore fans are still a bit mad about it lol

Btw, Lissandra is trying to keep The Watchers (there are multiple) from destroying basicly everything by using th magic they gave her against them. When she says "I tought there was more time" she is refearing to the time to prepare for their arrival
tldr lissandra lore:
She foresaw the Watchers (Void gods basically) destroying their world, and made a deal with them to spare her and her sisters in exchange for helping prepare Runeterra for the Void. Her sisters were pissed at her because they wanted to fight back, so Lissandra sacrificed them to trap the Watchers in True Ice. Now, she and her followers make sure that her history with the Watchers stays hidden, and they work towards gathering more True Ice to keep the Watchers at bay.

Simply put, Lissandra is a keeper. Once long ago she traded everything she got to get her powers (spoiler alert: Watcher gave her them). But soon enough she realized that these previously unkown creatures are not only deadly threat to Freljiord but to the entire world. I honestly have my doubts about Rek'Sai being a shuriman card.. Since there is a total lack of Void champions and cards (except for stuff like that one monster in Talliyah's level up animation) it would make a lot of sense for her to appear as part of the Void region.
Buuuut the Void *is* very intimately related to the shuriman geography... So I don't know. I hope they dedicate a lot of heart and soul to the Void region whenever it comes out because I freaking LOVE IT, it has always been my favorite region in the league universe.
(Oh and BTW this current season is about the guardians of the ascent, which is all about Shurima... and the next one is "Rise of the Underworlds"... which I can only think is referencing the Shadow Isles and the Void)
To put short and simple Lissandra made a deal with the "void" to obtain power that the void showed her with the catch she must let them in not knowing they want to end all of runeterra... Knowing this before they fully let in the world she froze the watchers, her soldiers her sisters all in the ice to prolong the doomsday clock in meantime gathers people to sacrifice them to the "watchers" to keep them occupied in thier frozen slumber and gather a army as last ditch effort before... The ice melts once more....
I think this deck will be top tier once Ireliazir gets nerfed. It currently only has a bad win rate against it and darius azir, and after it gets nerfed, darius azir will probably also lose some popularity.
The Watchers (theres multiple of them) basically signal the end of time for the planet of Runeterra, theres more of them already in the game as cards, She Who Wanders and the like
Those are not Watchers, they are Balestriders native from Frejlord. Watchers took a form similar to Balestriders when they entered Runeterra through the Frejlord, since they have not a form of their own
