- On 7 May 1977, Queen Elizabeth II hosted President Jimmy Carter at Buckingham Palace. Received on the palace steps by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Carter then entered the Blue Drawing Room to join the Queen, Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and Prince Charles inside. The event was a reception for world leaders attending the G7 Economic Summit in London; also in attendance were British Prime Minister James Callaghan, French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, Japan's Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, Canada's Pierre Trudeau, and Italy's Giulio Andreotti.

Absolutely gorgeous the Ladies evening gowns and dripping with jewelry 😍 and the late Queen in bright yellow 💛 very difficult colour to wear, but she looked radiant in that gown❤
President Jimmy Carter is still alive, aged 99 (nearly 100) at 1 year on hospice. Rosalynn Carter died back last November aged 96, leaving Mr. Carter her widow
widower
The late queen is wearing a very beautiful dress here.
This was when he kissed the Queen Mother right on the lips, a source of hilarity for the Royal Family.
Nice video, be nice if it had been a bit longer! Jimmy Carter seemed very fond of the Queen Mother more than QEII. Who could forget💋😳
The Queen Mother was appalled when Carter kissed her on the lips, saying he was the only man to do so save her late husband King George VI. She never forgot it and would mock Carter even years later in toasts.
Who cares ? He did a great thing for mankind, when he kissed that old hag
Then Mrs Windsor needs to get a life. President Carter was being a gentleman.
Thanks for sharing this classic clip!
I love they they flew over a huge Lincoln just to drive the Pres around. Must have seemed like a land yacht in the UK. 😂
What would a Royal Family gathering be without the Queen Mother?
The angel sleeves on the dresses were fashionable then.
Yes, they were.
Ohhhhhh wonderful, wonderful 👏👏👏👏👏👏.
Wow I can remember that
Very unusual to see Carter emerging from a beige, not a black, Lincoln Continental!
I noticed that too! Wonder if it was armored ?
They are all dead today except who ? Jimmy Carter. 🙂
Looks like G7 summit
It was. Held in Downing Street. May 1977.
During this event, it is well known that President Carter surprised the Queen Mother by kissing her directly on the lips. Afterwards, Elizabeth quipped that nobody had done that to her since her husband died.
Actually it was on her cheek but you know the British tabloids. Even that was too informal for a guest.
@@wholeNwonActually, you are wrong. It was widely reported at the time as other guests were shocked when they saw Carter kissing her on the lips. I remember it being a big deal at the time and it was never denied.
@@stevebaker6149 Denied by Carter.
@@wholeNwon Please provide proof as it seems to be so important to you.
@@stevebaker6149 It isn't but I don't like to see a good man defamed. I just googled the topic. You can, too, if you wish. Your choice. Fin.
У Маргарет и платьице как у мегя и кто сто наделал ? Итоги карты
All of them unelected apart from Jimmy Carter!. Says more about Britain than it does America.
Shoosh
And...?
Lol. What a load of nonsense. It says nothing. The Royal Family doesn't make any decisions . Elected UK politicians do. And, by the way, there were other "elected" politicians in this video. Not much going on between your ears, is there.
@@Consrignrant Not much going between your ears you mean. Jim Callaghan was not elected prime minister as a result of a general election, Jimmy Carter was. As for the so called unelected "Royal Family", every law passed by parliament does not become law until Royal Assent is given, so they are involved in politics and do make decisions, and that's why it's wrong. Not to mention that every elected MP has to take an oath of allegiance to an "Unelected" Monarch in order to take their seats in parliament, that's also wrong. America made the right decision in 1776, it's you who is 250 years behind the times, not I.
@@brianpatrick3160 You mean like the American system where half the time the government is formed by a MINORITY of the electorate ? Every one in that photo, excpet the Royal Family were elected including James Callaghan. Royal accent is symbolic and automatic. The elected government forms the legislation not the monarch. The Monarch's power is extremely limited but very important like the " caretaker convention" itself a legislated bill. I can't be bothered to go into all the details with an imbecile like you. Nice try though.
