Jon, you play from inspiration. And it does inspire me. Always great playing and great reviews. Fingers are very important, drawing from the heart, priceless
Wow…that piece you played at the beginning was beautiful. Very “Rippington’s-esq”. Absolutely love it. Yamaha doesn’t need any help, but that playing really made this guitar stand out. Well done, Jon!
It looks like a slightly lower grade of maple and rosewood than the expensive one, but still quality material. I've liked these guitars since the '90s. I'd gladly play that guitar at a show. Great job, Jon.
Once again, great video and playing Jon. I have always considered the Pacificas to be a nice "working" guitar series that for the most part won't break the bank. It's why I went with a Pacifica as my first electric (though a lower model in the series). They do what they are supposed to do, and for those of us who don't make our money playing they are a great option. As for the price differences and what folks prefer, I find now that the "lower versions" of many makers are getting a LOT of love now. The quality being put out in the "secondary shops" is getting better and better and as you say, sometimes there is just "something" about them that a player likes better... be it a neck profile, overall feel, just "something". And the more we like how a guitar feels when playing, the more we will play it. Cheers and keep up the great work!
Very tasteful playing, Jon. And man you can really shred when you want to go off. Love those Pacificas. Back in the 90's, a guitarist I knew had a green one that just looked so cool. I was gonna buy it from him but just didnt have the extra cash. Still kicking myself lol.
I recently am interested in yamaha guitars. I've never bought a pacifica as the case of many guitar players (I learned with a Ibanez SA) until now that I got a Pacifica 612. I felt in love with the guitar models 600's. After one month later, Yamaha launch a Standard and a Pro models. I like the Pacifica because it sounds different, sweet and hard sounds, versatile. And now this pro models sounds fantastic. Could be amazing a comparison between the 612 and the standard plus. Great video as usual Jon.
For whatever reason, you made this guitar sound tons better than other reviewers. In most other reviews the pickups came across as a bit flat/lifeless, here they sound awesome. While I would personally love some fancier colors and the matching headstock of the 612, this is great value for money - it definitely beats the Fender American Pro II HSS in specs and tone. (While I do like the AM Pro II SSS, the HSS version sounds just awful.) Thank you!
Jon you are so amazing. I must say this every time I comment on your videos. The Pacifica is a guitar I've always wanted but I want the cheaper ones. This run of pro guitars reflects Yamaha's next step up.
I agree with you Jon. This one definitely sounded a little better than the Pro and it looks gorgeous. You really played the heck out of it too. Very interesting video Jon 😃👍👍👍👍👏👏👏❤️❤️
Yet another great review by Dr. Jon!!! If I could sound half as good as you do I'd be happy. I currently have 4 Yamaha guitars and the quality is always excellent. This one is very tempting. My question is how you think this sounds compares to a Fender strat in about the same price range?
IT might be nice to see you do a comparison between this model and the 612V. I have a felling that the older model although not having stainless steel frets might actually be slightly better.
Very nice guitar, the workmanship and color (beautiful blue) of the guitar, its sound and pickups look absolutely OK. It must please the eye and ear of every guitarist. Greetings Pavel CZ.👍👍👍
Another Beauty Jon,, I own one of the Pacifica 112,s and its the natural wood not painted model and its a 1993 model made in indonesia.. I also have a FGN J standard with binding MIJ you also reviewed... Another brand well worth checking out is BACCHUS,, the Japanese models not the cheaper models,, They do a phillipine made but japanese assembled model , a chinese model or the in house Bacchus Japan models,,, there incredible, they also do Seventy Seven and Memosa brands. There pickups are still hand made in house and hand wound. GREAT PLAYING MATE.... WOW.
I wonder how much better it is than the S7V? I have one like the one you reviewed, sunburst etc. I like it a lot. However, Yamaha builds so well it would be tough to beat its price range. Love your playing and reviews Jon! 🇨🇦
Hi Jonathan, a simple model from Yamaha but with superb appointments. Loved the sound and tones of this model compared to the Professional. The S/C sound didn’t seem as harsh in this one. Stunning colour. Great review. Cheers ✌️🎸💜
Wow! Is the any chance to get tabs for the intro song?? Was just googling reviews for the new Pacifica, ended up at your channel and subscribed right after heard this solo! Really wanna learn it now! Great work!!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I was a bit iof a snob back then when it came to equipment, cheap guitars were usually terrible, I think that must have been the first cheap guitar I ever came across that was not terrible.
I no sooner mentioned the new standard model on your pro review and PRESTO one was in your hands... Both nice guitars. I've discovered I prefer a 12" radius neck so I'm sure this model would feel good too...and while I also prefer maple fretboards, rosewood is also a nice feel. If only the thing weighed a "tad" less...LOL but as long as it's under 8lbs now that's something I could simply sit and play.... All n' all the Pacifica models are decent guitars and these new models as well.. Pro model seems to only come with maple neck. However I agree with you in that for price point, I too would opt for the standard and save that $700 difference. As always wonderful reviews and playing dear Jonathan ☺
Im going to buy one soon Jonathan. Its been on my radar for some time. Good guitar for the money. Take care buddy. ❤🙏💯🎸🎸✌️✌️. (. Id change those fretboard markers 💯 )
I work on a lot of guitars, I’ve always found the standard of machining on the Yamaha bodies as good as the best. Often surpassing Fender and Gibson guitars. Curious if you had to do much setup on this before you reviewed it, or was it out of the box.
I like the same radius all over the neck more than the compound, agree with you. I think I need to wait until they add some proper translucent colours to Indonesian line. But the main difference is the feel of the neck at the back... On Japanese it feels expensive and nicer...
The 13.8 degree fretboard radias is the most common amongst most of the guitars coming out of that factory. The compound radias is just another marketing ploy. Only the very top of the fretboard near the nut is slightly rounder, and we probably couldn't even tell the difference by looking at them. Personally, I don't believe it's better.
@@andrewbecker3700a compound radius is not a marketing ploy, it’s an objectively different spec. You may not value it but it doesn’t make it subjective, a marketing ploy is something that is not different at all but just construed to be based on messaging.

I like that Yamaha is dipping a toe into the higher tier guitar market, but per usual with Yamaha, they're let down by their marketing. It would help if you can go down to the shop and try them out yourself.. and choose the colors you like.. no point getting a guitar you dislike in the first place
Nice review Jon! TO all, Have to wonder, Yamaha really put nice hardware and electronics on it. Here's the but, and there are three of them. 1. This guitar has a thin pattern neck, I have to wonder why so many spec'd guitars coming into the North Am and Euro market are thin pattern necks? North Americans and Euro players make up the largest world population of guitar players, and are statistically larger (height/weight). Additionally, more of those guitarists being male vs female. By default the target audience have larger hands. As a player for over 5 decades (with large hands) I can look at a guitar on the rack at my guitar store (or read the net specs) and know it will not fit my hand. Second but, no roasted neck for the price being asked is way out of scope in today's market. Lastly, the guitar's platform - SuperStrat and thin pattern neck scream metal over the styles of rock/jazz/blues, so wouldn't that target prefer a Floydrose trem? The imported Schecters covers the market that Yamaha is targeting with this offerin, and Schecter does this at a high quality and much better value point, so isn't Yamaha really missing the market with this release? Love to here views on this. Cheers!!
Yamaha just makes great stuff, but I’ve always thought of the Pacifica as just another one of the million Strat copies out there. They don’t excite me at all, even if they are great. I sure would like a P90 Revstar , though! Good video.
Will say this. Unless you are a front line accomplished professional guitarist you'd be hard pressed to do better than a Pacifica 612 HSS. Graftek nut and trees. Seymore Dunkin pickups. Wilconson tremolo. With a professional set up that guitar will almost certainly be better than you are.
