    It's a beautiful mild. I've never worked with resin, but couldn't you have poured everything else, let dry then pour the body?

    • @TheBlueElephantGifts
      @TheBlueElephantGifts  10 місяців тому

      Maybe....But I would think that there would be 2 issues with that either I would have to overfill the mold and then get resin on the other side where I didn't want it or there would still be the separation between the pieces. That's what I'm thinking anyway.

  • @AnnieMarsh1963
    @AnnieMarsh1963 10 місяців тому +1

    Hi there! I just stumbled upon this video and am completely enthralled - mostly because I "WANT" to do this but have reservations about the colors bleeding into each other (if it has to mix, I want total control as to how that happens - as absurd as this may sound). LOL!!! And I do have a question.
    I've already admitted that I'm totally ignorant here, but I wonder: for the body of this butterfly, could you not "plug" the channels that empty into the body of the bug with hot glue (one of those groovy glue guns with the precision tip), even if you have to build it up in layers as you did the resin earlier...? Then once that's set, pour either the wing (or body - whichever you decide to begin with), and let that resin cure. Then go back with one of your smaller instruments and remove the glue, then proceed with your resin pour for the remainder of the piece? If trying to create clean lines makes me a control freak, I will lace up those boots and wear them with glee!
    I loved watching your process - and you truly have the patience of Job! Beautifully done!!! Oh, and I'm your newest subscriber!

    • @TheBlueElephantGifts
      @TheBlueElephantGifts  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Annie welcome🤗 I have not tried hot glue but I have seen it done on other UA-cam channels Wendy from toonpish_crafts on UA-cam just did this in her newest video or something very similar. The only thing I would suggest before you try is research how hot hot glue is you may need a low heat one so you don’t damage your mold. And you’re not ignorant don’t think that. We all start somewhere and learn along the way, by trail and error and asking questions 😊

    • @TheBlueElephantGifts
      @TheBlueElephantGifts  10 місяців тому

      You could do that just keep in mind that you may not have a totally straight line using just hot glue (it comes out kinda wavy). Look into the video of Wendy’s I think it’ll be what you want to do to achieve this.

    Hey first time watching you and just wondering if you know you can us mica powers like paint if you add a bit of 99% alcohol to the powder and just paint it into the mold where you want it.

    • @TheBlueElephantGifts
      @TheBlueElephantGifts  10 місяців тому

      Yes I actually have a video where I am doing that. It’s a pretty cool technique

  • @gen-thethreadedbobbin
    @gen-thethreadedbobbin 10 місяців тому +1

    Hello, I'm fairly new to resin and I also use the nicpro! I love this butterfly. I haven't tried anything this large yet. I have noticed in some other people's videos, as well as yours, mention spraying their molds with alcohol to help with bubbles before they pour the resin. I have also seen people most the resin after pouring it but that always seems to leave a slight cloudy spot in the center of my projects. Does using it before you pour also cause a cloudy spot?

    • @TheBlueElephantGifts
      @TheBlueElephantGifts  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi thank you so much 🥰 I don’t use alcohol all the time before pouring resin. I feel that doing it that way doesn’t necessarily help with micro bubbles but in molds like the butterfly where there are a lot of 90 degree angles for bubbles to get trapped in the bottom of the mold it helps. Doing it that way no I have not noticed the cloudy spots. However when I use it to spray on top like when I am finished pouring yes I have. For this reason the only time now that I spray it on top is when it’s either the back of the piece and it doesn’t matter as much or if I am doing multiple layers I will spray it but just not in the top. I have found that I much prefer using my heat gun instead. I hope this helps.

    • @lajra9763
      @lajra9763 9 місяців тому +1

      @@TheBlueElephantGifts I understand this is your first time doing this piece and you gave some good tips. What I did not like so much is how the body bled into the wings, would like to see a cleaner delineation, I'm thinking maybe tape off the body, pour it and let it set up, remove the tape and pour the wings. Assuming, of course that the wet resin will adhere to the set resin. 2nd thing I was not a fan of was the gold splotches in the black wing and that there was no color in the voids. 3rd would have like to have seen both wings in black and glitter instead of dried flowers in the purple and green. It's good to know how these things work , thank you for that. If I were to do it after watching this I would do it in 3 separate steps. #1 The body taped off and set. #2 Outer wings in black metallic...let set. #3 Fill in both sides of wings with the same colors using a swirl technique of glitter. Thanks for the tutorial. 😊

    • @lajra9763
      @lajra9763 9 місяців тому +1

      Swirl technique of 2 or more complimentary colors or single colors with glitter.

    • @TheBlueElephantGifts
      @TheBlueElephantGifts  9 місяців тому +1

      @@lajra9763 I get what you are saying. There were certain aspects that I wish I would have thought of before the body for instance. I really didn’t think that it would spread quite so far. I had an idea in my head and went for it. We don’t grow unless we try new things and make mistakes. I appreciate your feedback it has definitely given me some things to think about whenever I do this one again. 😊

  • @halldoralarsen86
    @halldoralarsen86 9 місяців тому +1

    Resin can float in resin, so you need to put weight on them during cure time or let it become sticky before pushing the pieces in.

  • @editek5992
    @editek5992 10 місяців тому +2

    I think you over complicated it... have you thought of doing it all in one shot ensuring the pieces stuck by giving it a final over coat of clear resin? Once un-molded you could strengthen the bonding by giving it another clear coat in the back.

    • @TheBlueElephantGifts
      @TheBlueElephantGifts  10 місяців тому +3

      So doing it that way I could see 2 reasons that it wouldn’t work. First the green and purple would be the same level as the rest of the piece and I wanted them higher, and secondly I would have to over fill the mold to even get the pieces to connect and then it wouldn’t just stop in the one side it would fill all of the holes on the other side that I didn’t want filled. And then I’m not 100% sure that if you filled all of those voids with resin and then essentially over poured it to connect them you would even be able to get it out of the mold.
