This secrecy, as well as the restrictions and violence against Creole descendants during segregation (following the court ruling that French Creole peoples, even those who were fair-complected, were legally negro in 1921) led to the loss of almost ALL of the cultural history of the development of Creole Voodoo ( New Orleans Voodoo) as raids on their community became more frequent and more violent, leading to many, like my great grandparents, moving away from New Orleans as they lost their businesses, homes, and communities to racism. So no, voodoo isn't JUST a religion, it's a whole culture.
I have marked on her tomb, second-grade class field trip went to her grave and a voodoo shop back in the '70s. I don't think they do that field trip anymore.

It's a big shame that you were led by the layman. One clear distinction. Voodoo isn't a religion. It is a spiritual pathway. That is why no conflict arrives when mixing it in with even the strongest of monotheistic religions.
