The YES EIGHT MAN ORCHESTRA!
It is so fabulous to see all these individually talented musicians from different eras and band formats smiling, laughing and playing wonderfully together to make the best live versions of these classic YES songs!
Long live TRUE LIVE MUSIC!
I'm gonna watch all these episodes by Elana77960. Thanks for sharing!
I sure am sorry you feel that way. If Alan White was a drummer who "sucks so much" then he wouldn't have played with the likes of John Lennon, George Harrison, & Joe Cocker before joining Yes. You've gotta understand that his style is different than Bill's. He's more rock-oriented as opposed to Bill's jazz approach. You wish he wouldn't play so much? He's been their drummer longer than Bruford. Even in 1991 that was true. Learn to love both of 'em.You can't truly love Yes until then. You're nuts!
i wish alan wasnt drumming on the union tour he sucks so much. i just want to here bill he is the master
pryt86 who the fuck are you. What do you know about drumming
Get a life you little tweek. You think you are an expert about drumming. You're no Y E S fan. Coming to take away all your yes music.
im sorry man but after hearing all of brufords and neil pearts drumming. Its hard to take alan as series. Hes really good dont get me wrong. Ive been a long time yes fan. And Alan just slacks sometimes. And now a days hes not that great. I was rude saying he sucks. No he does not suck hes a pretty damn good drummer. But theres some lives shows where he wont do his drumming the same as the studio. Which kinda makes me mad. But other then that hes good. But id rather have bruford over him.
I'll tell ya another thing. I was this tour back in '91 & I definitely had no complaints. Do real yes fans a favor & don't listen to them until you feel differently about how you "wish Alan wasn't drumming on the union tour b/c he sucks so much." You talk like it's coming to a venue near you this summer. It happened 21 years ago. I'm not wasting any more of my time with you because you so damn confused about what's good and what isn't. Go buy any album w/White, learn it & then we'll talk.
I personally prefer Bruford to White also. And I've noticed the same thing about White, where he takes it a little too easy live. A lot of drummers don't play the same parts live as they did in the studio. I think it's b/c they've forgotten those fills or they would rather improvise instead of playing the same fill night after night. Actually Bruford is one of the worst ones when it comes to playing the same part live that he did in the studio. Sorry if I came across as a jerk. Bad day I guess.
its cool man. BUt if u ever listen to rush they perform all the songs identical pretty much to the studio which i love. Of course alot of other bands do it also. Yea ur right about bruford. BUt once he left yes and u listen to him live during his kingcrimson days. He does stick to the studio and then some. ALan does get pretty lazy sometimes. But o well playing those 20 plus minute songs ever night wears u down. Hes still good regardless
im a big yes fan. I have every single thing they put out. I heard all of that. Like i said i think hes good. But out of all the songs they have its only a small percent he really shines. And i dont like the fact he gets lazy during live shows and doesnt do his drum lines like the studio. BUt i love yes and alan is great. But he will never be a incredible drummer in my eyes like bill and peart. Not saying hes not good cause he is. Good talkin wit u too
Wakemans organ sounds as bad as Tony's pants look.. :(
Tony Kaye may be "Hard" but he aint "Heard" :( turn him up!!!
I guess I've learned what to expect from Alan, and what to expect from Bruford. They're different, bottom line. How about the song Miracle Of Life? The intro to that song is awesome & it's White. Or the song Changes? Cinema? The Revealing Power of God? The entire Going For The One album, in particular Awaken? See if u can find: Mindrive(the studio version), That, That Is, Footprints, I'm Running, Ritual, I could go on and on. Good talking with you...
I never really liked Wakeman's keyboard playing anyhow, he's no Keith Emerson, that's for certain. The sound Wakeman used in the organ solo in the studio version was very processed, using pitch shifters as modulators and so on. Kinda yukky as rock Hammond tones go. But I don't think Wakeman was actually going for a traditional rock Hammond tone in the first place. Emerson has always been my go-to kb player.
