The ironic thing being his son is man enough not to take his bait. Standing their nose-to-nose with his sociopathic old man and not flinching... that took guts.
Took a pair of bollocks the diameter of the Moon.
As Begbie said, he'll be a better man than his father or grandfather.
@neverindoubt r/whoosh
@neverindoubt You are SO observant. DUH! 🤦

Great quote there pal.
I love how Franco Jr. maintains perfect eye contact throughout. NO ONE else can even look Begbie in the eye, Junior is just trying to NOT kill him there and then. Awesome scene, really beautiful and uplifting.
ballantrae101 He did it brilliantly. I know the kid personally, he’s from Hamilton just up from me and is a really good guy. Very humble and down-to-earth.
@@spreadthelove77 is Hamilton in scottland?
ron Yes it is, not far from Glasgow.
@@spreadthelove77 he is so well put together, everything Begbie can only dream of being....
First impression: he’s timid, shy, awkward even, and very unsure of himself. But then doesn’t hesitate to step in between his raging father and frightened mum. Their faces say so much, no words are necessary.
Disclaimer should have said "No lassie got glassed in the making of this film."
That would have been gold!!
Best comment 😂
takes the edge out of the film when silly disclaimers like that are put in
You can see the son has a bit of his dad's aggressiveness but he's holding back. Especially since you find out over 20 years ago, Begbie was clearly terrified of his own father.
nickyboy22071989 yeh his father was an alcy
It's covered in the novel Blade Artist by IW. His father was a violent abuser. It covers flashbacks to his childhood days being at school with Renton.
@@abbyfairbrother6057 If I remember correctly his father wasn’t aggressive just an alcoholic loser but his grandfather was some kind of Gangster Boss and his brother beat him up bad.
@@gggallin8279 you must be right, i read it recently but I read lots and mixed it up. I think he despised his dad for his perceived weakness, but admired his violent grandfather. Either way, he is a brilliant character in a book....
@@abbyfairbrother6057 For sure! The blade artist is very underrated in my opinion.
Love the camera work in this scene when it pans over his mothers shoulder when Begbie points his finger, feel so bad for his son in this though.
yeah that shoulder shot really tickled my groin, definitely holds up to the first in terms of style and substance, which is rare
@D H not over mother's shoulder but not first person either
I thought Robert Carlisle actually bashed the camera with his left hand, sending it across his son's shoulder, when I first saw it. Still do actually.
It feels pretty rough to me
of oh yes a masterpiece 🙄
Robert Carlyle is such a great actor
Yh damn straight he killed it in this movie
He's one of my favorite actors.
He is but since he’s from Glasgow this is one of the easiest scene for a Glaswegian to play. Pissed off and violent.
@: Trainspotting and its sequel are both set in Edinburgh though. Just saying.
Kojo Mbasi have you watched “51st state”? By far one of his best roles in my opinion. Plus Samuel L Jackson as well.. banging combo those 2.
This is sad, but I’m happier now knowing Begbie’s son now is one of Liverpool’s Key players, winning the champions league and now captain of Scotland. Well done Andy
Lol fake news
Fud.
@@neil2.070 the fake news we needed ay
Looks nuhn like um ya hotdog
Hhahahahahhhahahha
Begbie: The old wino was my father. This fool's yours. You'll be a better man than either of us.
Enigma great line
It was actually sad that bit ☹️
touching family moment
Takes me back to my childhood 😌
Scott Hotchkiss aye ur ma
good movie. love how it portrays his son's success down the road and begbie's ignorance about the world and how 20 years went by, he's stale and doomed. his son helped him with one robbery but realizes the potential he has and left his father in the dust, along with his mates. great film
Doubtin Thomas nah, it was different but still pretty good, imo. You'll always have the original anyway
Doubtin Thomas No way. T2 is a masterpiece just like T1
I like the movie now but was initially disappointed because it is so far removed from the book, which is brilliant!
I felt so sorry for his son in the film, being forced into thieving when he had a bright future.....not like you can argue with Begbie tho
"He is a mate. So what can you do?"
All kinds of insecurities, all kindzzz
Bright future in hotel management? He will start by working in a bar pulling pints. Not so bright.
Better than doing time taking it up the ol rectum Chanel.
Except he did. He has more balls than his dad, Begbie should be proud ... well, he's an animal so he isn't capable of it. But he does have something to be proud of.
I see after spending 20 years in the jail it has turned Begbie into a charming young man !
“All of HMP establishments endeavour to rehabilitate offenders with the utmost care, sympathy and encouragement in attempt to improve the safety and wellbeing of all members of society as well as contributing to the growth and economy of our nation.”
Said no one because I just made that up.
@@Tombrosapien lol ha ha ha
@@Tombrosapien more like they sleep with inmates, steal equipment, cause fights, take fones, send visitors for searches, search cells when bored and sneak parcels in and to top it off all they do is sit on there arses most of the day doing fek all just to fek prisoners
Prison ain’t there to rehabilitate people it’s there to keep people out of the way
@@dragonfitter Perhaps, but seems shortsighted. What happens when some of them are done with prison finishing school and are released into the public again?
Robert Carlyle is an incredible actor. Just his facial expressions say so much more than the profanities he spews out. Begbie’s psychotic, but w/ his grown son, he’s acting out of hurt and responding the only way he knows how. “Maybe I’m not your dad…” but when he saw no fear or weakness in the young man’s face, Begbie knows he is his son, which pushes the level of hurt past his point of aggression, causing him to back down and leave.
Great acting on both ends. You can feel the hurt and the hate from both sides. T2 of course can’t live up to the original, but there’s some really great scenes. This one and Renton visiting sick boy at the bar really got me.
Begnie's son actually displayed more courage by not throwing a punch than he would have if he had given into his dad's demand to launch one on him. His bravery is evident as he places himself ahead of his mother and confronts his dad. That's all he needed to do, and it worked.
Well said brother, I would have scattered Begbie and his son there and then.
He's a dad, so what can ye do?
😂
Begbie can't comprehend his son not carrying a knife. If you notice Begbie was challenging him to stab him with a knife
Camera work at 1:10 is well thought out, it keeps you focused on his rage towards but his son but to the mother as well with the pointing and shouting, keeps the scene intense
Genuinely think that camera movement where Begbie tells his wife to leave it is my favourite shot of the whole film, creates so much anxiety and intensity that the son is also feeling.
Agreed - incredible camera work.
This one of the greatest sequel films made.
Its awful
its really not. its a 2/10 sequal
@@idealmethodNot sure what people expected, all the boys running around doing heroin again. It captures the middle-age existence of people who amounted to nothing perfectly.
God, the intensity that previously quiet, averted-eyed kid had in this scene/confrontation is *incredible*
Whoever they got to play Begbie's kid MADE this scene. It's so understated, and I didn't grasp it the first couple times I saw, but it's *flawless* this kid should get *roles* for this performance
The sadness in this scene is that crime and violence is the only way Franco knows how to bond with his son. He wants to be close to him but doesn't realize how repellent he truly is. 0:50 the frustration he feels is heartbreaking because he doesn't have the emotional tools to deal with what he perceives to be rejection. Franco genuinely loved his son, however twisted his perception was, that in itself offers him some redemption.
He couldn't of loved his son since he didn't even know him
"Teek a fockin swipe at me, dae et. DAE ET!"
ahah stefan your so silly

OH, HE WANTED TO.
Love the Scottish accent.
@Scott Hotchkiss ITS CHIBBED ya pie
I’d be shitting myself if I saw Robert Carlisle in real life lol
Hes a really nice man , just goes to show what an amazing and powerful actor he is.
Paul Wilkinson suppose so thanks, does he smoke in real life
hes really really short
doesn't matter how tall he is, when someone comes at you with full intention of killing without remorse you won't question height.
He's underrated.
Roberts acting is amazing
One of the best. Could play any roll
I don't know if it's me but that certain Scottish accent is absolutely terrifying with agression
Robert Carlisle demonstrated superb acting skills for both these films. Playing this character, he is transformed into a very scary, pshycotic monster. Just so very good indeed.
He’s a Scotsman. Seen daily here
@@iMertin Ha! I lived in Scotland for 12 years (Fife and Moray) and have travlled all over beautiful Scotland, so, yeah, I get it! 😂
Robert Carlyle is an amazing actor. Begbie's self-loathing comes through loud and clear.
You can't find the best Begbie scene on YT - it's from T2 and it's when he reads the notes from Spud's book and realizes Spud saw and understood the old wino was Begbie's father and how it made Begbie uncomfortable. And then it is followed by the scene in which Begbie goes to visit his son and his wife June. And he's polite for the only time in the two films - he wishes his son well, says how the world changes even if we can't, and tells his son - "The old wino was my father. This fool is yours. You'll be a better man than either of us." And they hug.
It's such a powerful scene, because for a guy like Begbie, doing something like this at his old age...it's overcoming his entire life and admitting pretty much to himself he maybe had a bad upbringing and he chose to go down the worse path, to not confront his demons (even his dad) and to just rage his entire life. His son is choosing the better and smarter path and Begbie for the first time realizes this and has the humility to openly acknowledge it.
So people overlook how powerful that scene is and in that scene, you fully understand Begbie and how scared and inferior and ashamed Begbie was somewhat of his roots and how he put up this tough guy front his entire life instead of dealing with it.
Robert Carlyle really doesn't ever get enough credit for his unbelievable performances in both movies..
Good on the lad he didn't lose his temper.
ANTIJPUG yeah amazing how he stuck to the script 😳
@ dumbass shitty joke
@@blobcity3591 I enjoyed it
1:10 Luv the camera swipe over to his sons left shoulder to catch begbie pointing at his partner, it’s the little things the director dose to catch the emotion and atmosphere of the scene, brilliantly done
Horrible way for ANY son to be treated!
Been there
Some people only have children so they can Lord it over them. It’s all about power!
The camerawork in this scene is fantastic.
You see that begbie regrets this by the end of the film
I've recently become a dad and swear to god I will be the man my family come to for safety rather than be afraid of. I know this is just a film but it portrays the reality for many households which I've seen numerous times and it's just wrong. Will never know why men want their family to fear them as opposed to love and respect them.
That scene is amazing for me. Used 2 coach the boy at football who played franky jnr years ago. Still see him a few times and glad he has done well.
I am from Glasgow as is the actor who plays Begbie. In Train Spotting Begbie is from Edinburgh and the actor who plays him has the Edinburgh accent down to a T. But when Begbie tells his son to punch him the actors' Glasgow accent comes through . If you listen carefully you can hear it…
The greatest skill is to control your anger it's far to easy to lose control
This may just be the most powerful scene of the entire movie
Imagine staring Begbie down
The end of an era, the start oa new!
This is the type of acting I look for in every film. Top class.
I wouldn't want Begbie to be my father
Angus Walsh How know?.
Angus Walsh Scotland Simple as!😀
Cos a shitehoose gooner has nae bawhs
Begbie would guide you to greatness!
Hes mine.
Couldn’t imagine the pain of split loyalties between what your dad wants/expects from you vs what YOU wanna do.
Clearly begbie Jr had more balls, confidence, integrity than his father.
I adore that begbie realises this and give his son some respect as the end and expresses how much regret he has over the life he has vs the life he might have had.
But he’s a lost cause, I can weep for him but he has to go back to prison for sake of spud, Renton and Simon.
Such an under-rated scene and indeed actor in the movie. Brilliant acting.
This scene has everything and the acting is top class 👏 🇬🇧🏴👌
His son looks like renton 😂
The swearing Dad is Renard! XD
Maybe thats why he got so angry lol
1:09 I like the way the camera swaps shoulders
Just as everyone in Scotland knew a Francis Begbie-alike at one point they also had a mate with a dad like Francis Begbie.
"Take a fockin' swipe at me, deeit! DEEIT!"
I love Robert Carlyle as Begbie; I detest the character, but I love him!
WKA DESIGNS Naw Leith/Edinburgh it's nae goin tae dae it!!
Ok😃
Tell you wot, free pop!
Love the Scottish accent. 🤣
this was a greatly watered down idea from Porno. In the book Begbie has two sons, one exactly like him ('aye son of franco, no doubt' observes Spud) and the other one a sensitive, timid kid. Far from the sentimentality of the film, Franco attacks his own son for not being hard enough and tells him he's no son of his. And neither of them go to work for him, Begbie instead forces a wannabee thug who he catches trying to rob his girlfriends house, into working with him, for his punishment.
that camera movement was everything
Gotta love Bobby carlyle, he's one of the actors I would love to get the opportunity to work with, just seems like a good guy and you could learn a lot from him, 👍👍👍👍 he came from nothing in Maryhill raised by his father and worked hard to become an actor 😎😎😎😎 true talent 👌👌
Once when I was 17, my drunk dad who constantly beat my mother and shoved me and my little sisters around pulled this on me. Once when I tried to stand up to him and defend my mom, he said looking down on me pointing to his head "I know you want to, right here, I dare you..." and before he could finish the sentence I landed a right hook to the side of his drunken head. Biggest mistake of my life....
He called the police on me. When the cops arrived, he told them i attacked him and a story of how I've always been disobedient and out of control. He also threw in some "these self entitled millennials think they can do whatever they want, blah blah..." for good measure.
That incident that took place over a year ago has ruined my life. I served real time in jail for the incident because he pressed full charges and being extremely poor, I spent every moment of the process in a jail cell.
My mom and siblings didn't testify against him for fear of him.
Brett101792 What an evil shite your dad sounds you should've knocked him unconscious & locked him in the cellar given him nothing but bread & water for a month. Hate bullies like him.
In the middle of the night, go to his car, fuck with the locks - break the handle to make it look like an attempted theft - and then just trash his car.
Your one big mistake is not beating him so badly he was scared to do what your siblings were scared of doing.
What I did.
God man that is awful. Truly awful. Hope he gets what's coming to him.
@ Okay boomer
Love the camera work at 1:10
The camera work in this scene is phenomenal
Agreed.
My stepdad is like Frank, just square up to him and he loses his bollocks.
When he said free pop I almost choked on my drink
Panda pop
That’s a very common thing for men to say in violent stand offs “ you get the first one for free “ “ take your best shot “ “ take a free pop “ it’s about intimidating the other man into thinking they are not scared of him and they are hard enough to take a punch . I have seen it many times in reality ☹️
@@paulbackhard6315 He was intimidating Begbie's terrifying in the book but everything Begbie does I find hilarious like his the ''In a casual backhand motion scene''
Great scene. You can see he's the upgrade of his dad. Got the strength but now has the control. He'll go far!
Frank not realising his lad is harder than him not hitting him.
His son is just as hard as him, and he's a good lad who doesn't go off on people without a good reason. A better man than his dad.
I don't think Begbie is psychopathic at all, its just high blood pressure
Like Vitos blood pressure medicine in Sopranos.
Love this scene , As someone that grew up with an abusive father ,His son could of killed him but wanted a future free of him
Begbie's also a hypocrite. I love when you find out later in the movie Begbie couldn't even stand up to his own father.
I got the impression he was so ashamed that his usual bravado dissipated, rather than failing to stand up to his dad. His dad didn’t demand anything of him.
Even though Begbie's son showed alot of balls standing up to Begbie.....however let's be honest with each other, if he did take the "free pop" at his dad, Begbie would of bounced the son off every wall in the street.
Exactly! Junior knew that he would've lost the bloody fight and lost badly!
He would **have**, indeed. Experience and all.
That's serious acting. Man is he frighting!
Father of the Year award goes to...
Robert is a amazing actor god bless him
'I will not take over the family business! " 😂
Proper man . That lad showed Begbie some real strength of character there. Unflinching but not lashing out like a child.
"Shut de fok op!" Will always love the Scottish
Carlyle was hilarious in The Full Monty. Pure talent.
His character in that was genial and laid back. Carlyle has a good acting range.
Should of been nominated for best supporting actor I swear his performance was the stand out of 2017
Aye. He should *have*. A God-damn pro.
What a scene !! utterly fantastic acting by all at its best. Tony fae Edinburgh.
Begbie is clearly not deserving a son but prison. Well done, guy, you mom is proud of you.
Begbie was so menacing even the camera man moved out the way.
Begbie's son is the only good thing he left in the world.
"Hotel f'ing management...you put him up tae this" 😂😂
People toss around the phrase "under-rated" all of the time but here it is more than appropriate. Trainspotting 2 is such a worthy, and incredible sequel. People wanted more of the same and that's not the point. We age and things change, but so often they stay the same.
Some serious tension in this scene, the lad really communicated it, well acted and he really deserves recognition for his part.
Damn he’s such a good actor no wonder he had to leave his family while filming
Robert Carlyse was absolutely brilliant in this film
Glad to see some things never change. Begbie is still angry and aggressive.
That's a blo there's no 2 ways aboot et 😂
And after that well, the game wiz mine 🍺
Poor Begbie.
Abandoned by his drunk father, he became angry and embitterred and violent and ended up pushing away the only people who loved him because they feared the monster he had become in order to survive his lot. His only means of keeping people close was through fear, he was a bully but as his core a very lonely, weak man, one who compensated for his weakness with violence where the others used drugs. He looks down on their vices but he knows deep down he is weak like them and that were they not slaves to their own misery they would move away from him, like his son. Of all people he probably expected his son to be a kindred spirit, to take after him, and I think that’s why he takes it so badly seeing his son become a respectable bloke instead of the violent dosser he was. If anything, it highlighted how weak Begbie was despite his front, because his son was inflicted with the same miserable upbringing as he was and turned out to be a better, bigger man.
something i noticed about the scene where they start going face to face is when it shows the back of his sons neck, theres a hint of ginger in his hair, like renton in his court clothes
Begbie is one those people that refuse to grow out of their high school bully days.
Begbie's son actually looks more like Renton at the same age.
Begbie's son is far stronger than he ever will be.
the laddie was gittin wide wi his auld man
Even the camera man flinched lol.
Begbie is THE CHARACTER on this movies. Really Robert is a great actor
What a scene utterly BREATHTAKING !! Tony fae Edinburgh...
Tony Williamson Edinburgh is full of chookters
Edinburghs England...
I'm so proud of Franco Jr. A class act
People who know Begbie can tell he constrains himself a lot here. Probably the closest to being a father Begbie can be.
Franco didn’t change much. We all know a guy like that. Great acting in this sense all around. You can feel the hate on both ends.
Isnt it crazy how much he wishes his son was like him, but a lot of other criminals would tell their sons not to follow their path. It showed all the way up until the end of T2. He's insane and takes pride in the insane things he does.
Brilliant scene
Fekix is a exceptionall actor
one of the coolest charakters ever in movie history....Begbie
I think Begbie was actually trying to be a father for the first time and failed miserably. To me that is the deeply sad part
Maybe you're not my son.
