I swear this is true, on a cruise (Celebrity Millennium) from Venice to Athens Aug 25 to Sept 3 2004 (destination Athens Olympics) the first full day was a sea day and I was in the ship music library (iPods were still a thing of the future) and for some reason I thought of this record from the mists of time and played it. Astounded to find out days later it was the day she died. Shivers up and down the spine.
She was such a good woman too I know that the song can be a little misleading because she had a lot of self-control she was only married one time that I know of and her husband died before she did and they had adopted some children that she took care of and after he died it was all left up to her and she never remarried after that and she was very faithful to her husband and she's such a wonderful woman and it's just terrible that death came way to soon

I graduated from high school in 1984. "Self Control" and Laura Branigan were one of the many talented artists I would listen to on the radio. I worked in a grocery store as a bagger that summer, while I waited to enroll in college in the Fall. 84 was a great year.

Because current singers are recruited for their looks not talent. And they also use autotune to make them sound good proving you don't need real talent anymore.

I used to listen to her in my bedroom, I was maybe 11,12 yrs old at the time. I used to just stare at her album cover admiring her beauty and talent. On the record player I'd sing along with her, my parents loved her music as well. I just recently found out she passed away. I was shocked and sadened. I'm now listening to her music again, brings back memories, I can't help but tear up a bit thinking about my younger yrs. This music will forever be the best in my books. 💕

I lived to dance in the 80's, out several nights a week, every week. I'd spend hours on the dance floor, oblivious to all save the music and my dance. This was not just my favorite dance song from the 80's, it was the embodiment of my soul. Hearing it again summons not just the memories but the emotion of the time.

After 39 years i have seen this video.Actually i saw it in sometimes in 1984 in a tv show named SOLID GOLD when i was just 4 years at age. Laura has pure tone. I Don't know why crying is coming.possibly due to rememorize of the past time.

Self Control was the stand out song from the long hot summer of 1984, the year I left school, I was 16 but seems like yesterday, still as fresh and vibrant today as it was all those years ago.
I was 6 when this came out. Evokes so many memories and feelings of my childhood.
Nothing will ever change my memories along with great times and music of the 80s. So glad to have lived that era in my 20s.
