Just saw the two films you mentioned! In my opinion, they were ONE-OF-A-KIND! Unfortunately, the Joan Jett film was never released in a theater in my area. FORTUNATELY, though, it's on DVD! Oh, by the way. IF you're interested, there's a film, coming out this summer, about the career and lifestyle on Elton John. It's called, "Rocketman." I saw the trailer on UA-cam.
im so excited to see this, my parents named me joan as a second name and was for her, people on elementary school used to make fun of it saying it was a boy name, later when i found out the reason for my name, being a teenager i felt really inspired by her and her story TT♡
@Mr Temporal Maybe it has to do with the pronunciation of the name. They way Jett pronounces it sounds more like "John" than "Joan" (with the open "a" sound).
I'm so excited for this!!!!❤❤ I love Joan Jett!!! She's been my idol since I was 13 years old! I got to go see her in concert for the first time on December 2nd, 2017 at Four Bears in New Town, North Dakota(:
I already know I'm going to love this! Joan has been a huge inspiration since I was little! Everything from the Runaways, the Blackhearts, Evil Stig, and her overall presence in the punk and riot grrl community has always inspired me to be a bad ass bitch. Love you Joan!
"Girls don't play Rock n Roll." (Ms.Joan Jett) If I needed a reason to love Joan Jett music. Ms.Joan Jett says something like that sentence for the record.
Richard Herzog - When she saw me wearing a guitar pick (I worked @ nightclubs was the bands waitress, always have one on as an earring) she gave me one of hers in the very early 80s... yes I still have it & wear it occasionally!! There was Nancy Wilson, but she was an exception, not the rule.
Yeah, thank yous are always sweet to hear, but people keep bringing up how much Joan owes this or that person, and it's really a bit much. While I agree that she owes her success to a lot of people, that's true of almost everyone. And, it's not like Whitney Houston thanked Dolly Parton every time she sang I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, and there are many more examples. So, again, while it's always nice when gratitude is put into words, not hearing it doesn't necessarily mean Joan is ungrateful or anything.
But Whitney did thank Dolly in public and more then a few times, It can not hurt to give credit where credit is due. It is safe to say I love rock n roll is played so much more then I will always love you. Rock on joan, R.i.p. Whitney Give thanks to the song that put Joan on the map. I write songs too. Not close to the above songs.
The difference may be that in Whitney's case, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU was basically gifted to her by Dolly herself, whereas in Joan's case, she came across I LOVE ROCK N' ROLL on her own, and was struggling at the same time to be taken seriously as a musician. So, Joan is trying to balance doing a few covers with also being an original, and she knows it's a fine line. She also knows that if she says too much about the originators of her cover songs, she will never hear the end of it from those who will decide that that's all she is- a cover artist. And with that Arrows song being her biggest hit, that' puts her in a tough spot. Because while she is grateful to that song, she may almost feel trapped by it too, and that would explain her lack of public praise to the originators of it (though she has acknowledged the origins of the song a few times publicly). It's not fair to the Arrows, I agree. But, right or wrong, Joan feels in a spot about it, I'm almost sure of that. And I'm almost sure that with all the talk and criticisms of her being a cover artist already, she probably struggles with feeling like a fraud at times, and doesn't need that thrown in her face even more- hence why she doesn't talk much about it.
I understand your point. In the end it's all about business and posturing for the best angle. Glenn is clearly a passionate supporter of The Arrows, a small but still dedicated group of fans of that short lived mid 70s band. It's also clear to me that Joan Jett is trying to rebrand herself as the "Bad Reputation" girl and moving herself away from the Arrows song incrementally. To demonstrate this, she didn't perform "I Love R&R" at her Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction a couple of years ago. It would have been great to see the songwriter and original artist the Arrows Alan Merrill perform the song with her at the induction, since he still performs the song in his live shows currently and he's a far more energetic and youthful performer than Tommy James, who she performed "Crimson and Clover" (a cover) with. In conclusion, I have noted that "I Love R&R" is the featured song in the promo featured here, so how far way from the song can she actually stray? But she can try!
@@storybellz Oh well boo hoo, she did ok on the back of other people's talent and kept pretty quiet about it, leaving talented songwriters unable to build on the boost that a successful cover *should* have given to their careers, but Oh no! poor miss "I'm not a cover artist" feels trapped by the fact that she didn't do the decent thing and allow some of those who *should* naturally have come up along side her to languish in obscurity... Shabby.
Wow, I heard this was a thing by a notice from Google that the soundtrack dropped. Naturally, I had to investigate this further. Here I am. So pumped to watch this! Question is where is it going to be available in the Houston area?
