I know this video is over three years old, but I just had to to say thank you, thank you, thank you!! I just replaced a plastic blind slat and was so excited that I was able to do it with your easy instructions. Now, I can use up all of the bottom slats until the whole blinds need replacing. THUMBS UP!!
Wow!! That was an amazing fix. Took me about 1 minute to do it. Thanks so much. Now I don’t have to have the gap covered with paper towel and scotch tape😊
I actually had basically the same idea, but was not confident enough to do it and your video helped me be confident it would work and the specific way you slid it from the side was good info. Thanks very much
I can't thank you enough for this video! We live in a rental home, and my dog broke one of the blinds. My daughter was going to call someone to come and replace them. As soon as I finished watching this, I took the scissors and removed the damaged bind, and added one from the bottom. It didn't even take me 5 minutes! My daughter was amazed, and so thankful. You saved us from having to buy new ones! Thank you again 💕
I saw 2 other videos on how to do this, and Im glad I clicked on yours! Super simple and would have never thought to do that. Will try it out this afternoon!
Great Presentation ! I thought of this but seeing you do it made me think it is at least worth a try. I also soak my blinds in the bathtub with Dawn detergent then scrub a little because they get very dusty
🇺🇲🌺 I'm so glad I found you. I'm a "cat mom" & my fur babies can't wait for me to open the mini blinds in the morning. So I've been hopeful for an easy quick fix. Thank you. Thank you!! Saved me time & money. Hugs from Texas 🌹🤠
Thank you so much for this. My baby broke two sets of blinds and I was bugging out having to buy two new sets and he only broke 4 slats on each. Now I can fix the and I’ll use the tape to reinforce.
Great idea. Thank you for sharing. I've done something like this but I opted to make longer cuts at an angle for a more sturdy feel. If you are brave enough to try and "repair" your cordless blinds by replacing your slats with the ones found at the bottom, I found binder clips help from keeping the cords from retracting back into the mechanism. Also, using pieces of paper clips to help your knots from going through the bottom rail opening. Tedious at first but so satisfying when done.
Thank you so much! My maintenance guy installed brand new blinds and tore the very top blind..I will use one of the "extra" blinds at the bottom. Genius.
Thanks for the video! I have a quick question- I have an issue if my vertical blinds of window not closing properly. In my case, I am having those vertical slat blinds and I have 2 issues and would greatly appreciate your response! (1) In my living room window blinds, only 1 out of the total 9 blinds move when I pull the rope attachment. The remaining 8 blinds just stop moving along with the first one after 2 seconds of pulling my rope attachment so there is this huge gap created when I close the blind and sunlight comes right in.What to do about it? (2) For my bedroom window blinds, i ma having the same issue but in this case 4 out of 9 blinds move after pulling the rope attachment. The remaining 5 just won’t move at all after a while so it creates a wide gap and sunlight comes right in. How to solve this issue? Thanks ahead of time for your response🙏
Awesome idea!! Thank you!! I had just watched the other longer more complicated version on another channel and was about to do it. Thankfully your video played after and I was just listening to it and thought that makes way better sense to me. It was so simple and so quick! I have a cat so we all know means. Thankfully all the extra at the bottom on his favorite window😀. And as suggested you can add the white duct. My blinds have a smaller hole so it stays wrapped around the thread. Such a great idea thank you so much!!
I honestly don’t know, if they’re a thick plastic, they may crack/splinter when you try to cut them. If there are extras or many at the bottom, try testing them. It’s hard to say without seeing them in person. If they’re otherwise wrecked and need replaced it’s worth a shot. 👍
I was so excited to find this tutorial. Thank you so much! Although skimming through comments, I feel like an idiot because mine did not come out to hot 🙈 one of the slates wouldn’t stay in place but as long as I never touch them again, it should be good! I wonder what I did wrong though😢 I haven’t had these blinds very long, but the three I replaced had a yellow tint. I wonder why.
It’s not you, it’s the blinds! I did a follow up video to this and my second set wasn’t as sturdy. You might need to take a piece of white tape to help hold the cut area together. I’m wondering if the blinds broke down from heat and turned yellow and brittle?
@@Jennyfromtheshop oh thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! You are so kind. I’m glad it’s not me ha ha! Yes, I think the discoloration is from the sun. I will get some white tape for sure as those blinds in particular are very flimsy. Thanks again 😊
@Jennifer Cline aka Miss DeWalt. Thank you Jennifer for the repair idea. It really helps in saving money so we don't have to replace when we can fix. If you still have that demo mini blind, try tack heating each cut with a soldering iron so that slat has a little more strength? It's worth a try to see if the two ends will fuse or melt together. If not, like others said, we could use tape. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.
It should work on both, but heavier weight blinds are best. I’ve done this several times, once on cheap dollar store blinds. They needed tape reinforcement.
I just fixed a really cheap set of blinds at my son's townhouse rental using the exact method. I added a piece of Scotch Tape which hides pretty well. One more set to fix tomorrow same way. It is pretty sad when I tell you the set is really cheaply made but not cheap to buy. $35 for flimsy plastic.
I hear you! I can't believe how flimsy this set was compared to the one in my son's room where I originally created this method. They're like night and day.
Every one of my miniblinds develops frays in the strings that keep one side of the blind from raising and lowering, to where the bottom of the blinds are cockeyed at an angle. They are 37 years old and some were never even raised or lowered during that time. Apprently it's cheap string and it just gets old, frays, and gets stuck in the area where the round roller is at the top that is on some kind of spring that is suppose to allow the full width of the blinds to raise and lower together, and is suppose to grab the two strings when you let go of them. I don't want to throw the whole mini-blinds away just over this. Can you do a video on how to fix this?
Hi Joe! It sounds like you might need to restring the entire set, unfortunately. The other UA-cam videos I saw showing how to fix a broken blind completely redid the strings so possibly those will be helpful? I don't know that I have the patience to tackle that myself. Your blinds must be custom, hard to find or were expensive, I'm guessing, and I get not wanting to buy new. I hope you're able to repair them as I also hate wasting if it can be redone.
Some blinds might need reinforced with white tape. The ones I used to demonstrate here were of decent quality and needed no help. My second video blinds were from dollar store and bent easier and needed an extra step.
That stinks! I didn’t touch the cord in my video, so I’m not sure how to fix the issue you’re having. Can you lay the whole blind flat and pull the cord back down with tweezers?
I included the link in the description but don’t want to completely delete it and lose the ranking or views. The information in the other video is the same and still helpful, just not as well produced.
Not a good a idea, (emergency)...So, you want to destroy a perfectly perfect slat. Then someone might stick a tape & a finger printed sticky tape that might be filthy to view. Then the cut or slit slot will eventually bend or break...For me it looks not a good fix. Only a temporary fix.
I’m not sure I understood completely, but I fixed my son’s blinds about 4-5 years ago and they’re still perfect. His blinds were heavier quality than some of the cheap Walmart ones. Those you might as well throw away but for decent blinds it’s a permanent fix.

Thank you! This is SO MUCH easier than another way I was shown to do this. I appreciate you posting this!
That's the method I used instead of undoing the knot at the bottom. Also, a dab of super glue helps to close the slit in the slat.
Great minds think alike!
I'm definitely using the glue method from now on instead of tape or staples. I don't know why I never thought of that. Thank you!
Wow!! That was an amazing fix. Took me about 1 minute to do it. Thanks so much. Now I don’t have to have the gap covered with paper towel and scotch tape😊
I’m gonna have to go home and try that out. I’ve got one spot in my blind that needs to be fixed. You just helped me out. Thank you.
Worked great for three broken slats. Probably saved me $40.00 to avoid buying two matching blinds for the bedroom Thank you very much!

What if the blinds are fake wood? Any quick fix for those?
