How painful to think that these extraordinary people are gone and never to be replaced. What fortune I had to have them in my memory. Imagine the empty memories that today's children have in their minds...sad....

Floods of tears and they're all from me!
Why are there no Danny Kayes today.
    What a star!

Oh wow, I remember this song from my early childhood. Beautiful memories of my Mom teaching and then singing this with me after watching Danny Kay sing it. I must have been about 4. I enjoyed watching all of his movies, and continue to watch them to this day with my Mom. I am 59, and my Mom still has her beautiful voice too at 79.

Thank you so much for your kind words - yes, Danny's talent was unique and even if this particular song doesn't let his usual gift for patter songs and accents stand out and shine, it surely brings to the fore his other blessing which is tenderness and kindness to children

I assume that you may be a professional musician, as I am. You certainly presented your voice in that manner, which prompted my comment. As a former adjudicator, my praise was seldom given and had to be deserved. You deserve it . So does Danny Kaye. Thank you again, too.

Danny Kaye has always been one of my favourite singers, and this song has always been one of my favourites among all songs. With the addition of your vocal, you've taken a masterpiece, and made a brand new one from it! It was superb! You had me in tears. I know you say it is only a hobby for you, but you truly have one of the best singing voices I've ever heard. I'm certain Danny Kaye would have loved this! Brilliant singing, and wonderful work on the video. Brava! 5 stars, and favourited! :)

Oh my, you have done a lovely job to a song that has been a part of my heart for many years. Finding it this evening, made me go ahead and sign-up for a g-mail account which is something that I never do (sign-up for another account), but I just had to let you know how this has touch me......Thank you! I have never tired of this song by Danny Kaye, now I have another version to listen too......

@moontender Oh, thank you for your nice appreciation, yes, I was so deeply moved myself as I heard this song for the very first time, and then singing it along I realised how the voice itself feels the significance of these phrases, and I couldn't help wondering what Danny might have been thinking about as HE was singing it, and I tried to perceive it the same way :-) I hope I succeeded...

@singingkid Oooh, thank you for the kind words - it seems this was one of Danny's favorite songs (he performed it rather often even after "Hans Christian Andersen"), I couldn't help singing along ever since I heard it for the very first time !

  • @mazay83

@mattiescottage Thank you ever so much for the kind words. Yes, me too I believe that Danny loved music, loved singing, loved spreading this feeling among the people around him and loved getting that response from them as they joined him singing along. (I really hope that if I had that possibility of singing with him he wouldn't have kicked me out of his choir ;-P ! ) And if seriously, I adore so much the way he conveys deepest feelings and emotions with his voice - pure genius !
