In my opinion, their finest work.
The lead singer Simon Le Bon wrote this song following the death of his best friend. He says that writing and singing this helped him get through his grief and help get him back to an "Ordinary World"
The band wrote the song. Simon Le Bon wrote the lyrics five years (in 1991) after the death of his close, not best, friend since childhood, David Miles, who passed away in 1986. The song that was written following the death of Miles is "Do You Believe In Shame?" found on Duran Duran's "Big Thing" album released in 1988. "Ordinary World" is the second part in a trilogy of songs that centers around Le Bon & Miles' passing. "Out Of My Mind" concludes the trilogy & was released in 1997 as a single from Duran Duran's "Medazzaland" album in 1997. "Ordinary World," fundamentally, is about Le Bon still processing the loss of Miles & was influenced by The Gulf War (1990-1991).

Duran Duran have so many great songs. I am addicted to “Electric Barbarella” (album version) at the moment.
I swear, any time I catch this song on the radio or even on shuffle on Spotify or something, I stop whatever I'm doing just to sit and listen to it. I can't help it, like it calls to me or something. Btw, the album track has a way better intro that builds up for a moment before the melody starts. The video just sorta jumps right in.
