I have an old k10 with 6.2 in it. At idle the motor wont die and will tank thru anything. Just need better dtr driveability. I get 26mpg+ but have been considering a full mech 6.5 swap with the nv4500 trans. Imo shuld be the offroaders dream setup. The torque these engines make is not a shit ton, but in allll the right places

Never got around to your mod level....I was just working on making it bullet-proof and high MPG, like replacing the clip-on oil lines, vacuum delete and +mech wastegate, big open exhaust, bigger airbox and turbo, etc...

These engines are very sensitive to mods. In my area i see them for sale all the time blown up alot of young guys were getting ahold of them and hooning the shit out of them.

dam that oil pressure.. im jealous.. also the miles... i put more miles that what ur truck has total, in one year, in fact i almost double that in my poor 6.5 its got over 400k n still runnin, iv helped it a few times but still original block pistons rods pushrods rockers cam valves everything.. its needed a few pmd before i fixed that problem, n a few other small things

I've never really seen another 6.5 with this much done to it, so I couldn't even safely make a guess of what it was putting out! I hear you about the cost of new trucks, nothing quite compares to the sound of these things either.
Eric, I have a 94 6.5 turbo K3500 truck. It starting having a problem occasionally of not starting and getting worse. Cranking over normally, but not starting. I changed the fuel filter. Didn't help. I noticed two of the injectors are really oily all around them. I removed the air filter box to get a better look at the passenger side and found a lot of oil inside the turbo where the air box connects. Do you think the problem is bad injectors, or something else?
If your experiencing oil in those areas around the turbo, sounds like you might need a new turbo is it is leaking the oil that it uses to cool itself, your starting issue is likely a pmd issue and discovering the turbo was by accident
@@raj9223 I found out both heads are cracked. Got new ones,all gaskets, glow plugs and injectors. Ive got the new heads on and torqued so far. I tried to turn the turbo fan by hand and its barely moves. Is it supposed to spin easily?
My 6.5 giving me shit may end up selling i looked over everything swear. Took it back to the shop and apparently the aftermarket pcm wouldnt work with the new pmd i got
From what I've been reading lately, 12 to 15 psi is the max. Unless you get one of these trucks very cheap, it's hard to justify putting money into a 6.5, but if you pick up one for $1,000, it might be worth something looking into
If you would raise the back of the seat forward where it’s supposed to be then you wouldn’t constantly have to sit up like that just to take off and shift through the gears.
4in exhaust, 2.5" crossover, 3in downpipe, a reputable tuned ECM, new harmonic balancer, new crank pulley, new injectors popped to 2300psi, after that... cooling mods... those, you can google..lol. :)
@@rileykirk11 I actually used a cheap air sprayer from fleet. Like $20. 1 gallon of rustoleum if I remember right. Kept spraying coats until it was gone. Just newspaper and masking tape over the windows.

This truck came stock with an ugly wooden flip up console, I actually ended up buying a different flip up console off of craigslist and fabricating some brackets to make it fit on the stock console frame.
Meth injection, bigger turbo, different turbo blade size, kennedy waste gate, hardblok poured in water jackets to strengthen block, inter cooler, double oil coolers in front to keep it cool, bigger mariner injectors, built mechanical fuel pump with higher flow, bigger lift pump, probably missing a few things lol.
Where are you pulling the air from? I see factory air box is gone and intake to turbo seems to come from headlight area. Is the filter hiding down there? Also, where is the coolant surge tank? Was it relocated as part of the WMI system? Thanks for sharing, Chris built & coated a P400 for me. Just upgraded to the same Holset, waiting on John for a built DB2 :D

I agree it cst a shit load of money to even make these reliable then how much to gain horsepower 12 v any day over a 6.5 I have a 6.5 and it’s stock I would not waste money on one of these engines to get horsepower ther great on fuel but that’s all I can say good about them I’ll take a 12 v any day over one of these if I wanna make power good to drive from a to b but in all reality it’s not worth the money to try to make these go fast it would cost a small fortune to get horsepower out of these motors
I found them on craigslist and they were just some sort of universal seat and rail combo. They fit like a glove though. Sorry I dont know any more specifics lol

1. I'm guessing he's at less than 300hp. 2. That duramax would walk all over any 6.5. Theres no comparison between the old style diesels and the new common rail engines. Stock the 6.5 is rated at 180hp and 440 torque, the duramax stock is close to 400hp and over 700 torque.
There are far too many people these days that do not understand the importance of keeping EGTs down. Knew a guy with a coal rolling 24 valve Cummins tuned "for power" when he just wanted to roll coal....and he was bragging about his 1,300-1,500°F EGTs 😳🤦. I laughed to his face and walked off. A year later, his truck was hard starting, had an exhaust manifold leak, turbo was seizing up and you could tell the compression low on at least a couple of cylinders......he REALLY didn't like me laughing at that, but I warned him and Karma bit him in the butt for being a coal rolling idiot that didn't understand how diesel engines work.
Ill tell you it isnt over 450 fully built the crank cant handle any over that. Iv had many of these and bam crank goes every time time to up grade to a cummins or dmax
Aaron Hilt, could easily be over 400. I’ve talked with Heath from Heath diesel extensively and the 6.5s can hold 400 with the old block set up as long as you take care of them. His old bonnaville truck is 500 on an old block that has parts from a 6.2 and the truck I’m building now will be around 550. He had 3 shop trucks all between 375-450 hp all stock except for boost which is up around 20lbs. He’s had them for years and they get driven frequently. With the new optimizer 6.5s you can safely run higher egts (to a point) and push more power. Before anyone says anything about them not handling boost that’s b.s. as well. I’ve had mine 303k miles, stock head gaskets and daily driven 160 miles 6 days a week at 25, screw the “can’t go over 12-15 reliably crap. If you ask Heath about the build plan on his Bonnaville truck he will tell you before they went with twin turbo they were thinking of compound turbos upwards of 75lbs of boost. The problem is NO ONE takes care of these engines properly and EVERYONE (myself included) has read online forums from keyboard commandos saying how shit these engines are. If you know the weak spots (harmonic balancer being one on the older blocks) then you can avoid 99% of all the problems they have. Second issue is they take them to a diesel mechanic to get them fixed and the problem with that is these aren’t dmax or Cummins, they’re a 6.5. Compression is different, boost is different, block is different. This guy did his research, and took his time building this truck and he did it RIGHT. I can promise you that was up near 400 or more. Not trying to start a fight, just sick and tired of misinformation everywhere on these things🤙🏽

When the Detroit engineering team were asked themselves about the comparison between the 2 there response as to the pros over the Ford was weight and a slight fuel consumption advantage. Check for blow by or do a compression test if you are able to.
