- Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev of the former Soviet Union (Russia) speaking in Russian before the General Assembly of the United Nations and angrily pointing his finger. No translation. 1960.
i was anxiously waiting for him to start banging his shoe on the bench
That didn't happen by the way
I was also, thanks to Krugman. Still, impressive glimpse of attitudes (past).
The shoe thing was a photo falsification.
There is a cut video where obviusly is another person, There is not a complete video of that speech with the shoe. even the famous picture is a mediocre photo edit, There's a video and the same photo of Khrushchev waving his arm without the shoe. The rumour was only propaganda. RAI, BBC, CNN,..etc are known for posting false news in their media, they defame leaders and governments, make up war interventions,.... since ever.
Dat tizio oh the people will continue to die until there will be no real history to bring them back to reality they want to believe it didn’t happen...
I remember this day very well.
My dad asked him after the speech “Can I go to America now :3”
“NO!”
“Ok :(“
And then he left anyway
What was he saying?
That's the only good thing you did, you filthy revisionist!
Such powerful words from a man that's quite bald and is in a fit of rage, saying "We will LITERALLY bury you" in the United Nations.
Greatest wishes to you, Nikki. Regret that moment which Zhukov groped your chestnuts on Stalin's Funeral in '53, and thanks for killing that godawful Beria on the way here. If he lived forever, he would have raped foreign delegates and guests.
Wow, me too
I'm russian so I'll make a translation for you : Let me answer to the speech of USA representative, who just stated the need to proceed with their politics toward China, which of course is doomed to fail. He says (mr Penjen) that USA were called an "imperialistic power". Mister chairman, is that new to you ? Whole world knows that the most imperialistic power in the world is USA. Every sparrow on the roof tweets about it. That USA is the most imperialistic country, that support colonial regime. And he's resented ! Plays innocent like a lady, while this lady probably has ten children already. And then he says, thah him (Hommershel) continued colonial politics in Kongo, in USA interests. Is that new for you ? Mr Hommershel himself knows, whose interest he serves. Better than Penjen. Because he indeed is a loyal servant of monopolistic capital and represents in UN all countries that patricipate in criminal imperialistic politics. (All said in rather peasant-ish russian, with some mistakes)
Didn't Khrushchev take off his shoe once during a UN session?
+Mike Cimerian Maybe he did; but that famous photo of kruschev holding a shoe at the UN bench is fake.
бунчук гопник Actually, I think it was great theatrical improvisation. His temper took over, he wasn't a cold fish and I like him for it.
I like him too but he was just an ignorant peasant everybody shocked how he managed to came to power.. A journalist asked Molotov about Kruschev's manner in the UN assembly, im talking about the shoe event; Molotov was like "Stalin was a serious man. He was cold like steel. He wouldn't appreciate such un-serious behaviour. He would go mad if he saw Krushchev's clownish manner"
бунчук гопник Molotov could have beaten anyone at poker and was very formal, I agree. Khrushchev behavior did give an impression contrary to what the Soviets had worked hard to dispel, being uncultured. As it was one of the sharpest insult one could rebuke with, yes it is strange.
Steve Buscemi looks very passionate

This does not need subtitles. I do not speak Russian but I know exactly what he's saying. It's all in the body language and the emphasis. Fucking brilliant.
So what is he saying?

You dont speak his language but you try to make him look bad because his speech sounds evil.
He said that everyone knows that the USA is an imperialist superpower that tries to imperialise and colonize the earth with coups, invasions or bombings. You shouldnt pretend like you dont know that america. Every bird on the roof knows that.
Basically all he said was true and wasnt a bloodshed evil speech.
What an irony of life. Years later his son took an oath to become a US citizen...
its because, he got ousted by the traitor Brezhnev
America bribed him.
Why can’t boys like this go to my school
I hate what he did to Stalin's legacy and relations with China, but the man had charisma, and it's hard not to be captivated by his speeches.
Stalin was a monster an egomaniac. Mao ruined the Sino-Soviet relations by imitating Stalin
I think Stalin did enough to ruin his legacy all on his own. Just read Solzhenitsyn.

His choice of words was very unapologetically soviet "cut the crap, get to the blyat point" straightforward and can be easily translated. He was a reformist yet was ousted due to ideological disputes, he paved the way for Gorbachev to reform the whole USSR
what a charisma ...i love this man

Oh churrr thanks bro.
As a Chinese person, I have some constant hostility towards Khrushchev, because he was the one who happened to be there when both China and USSR ruined our relationships. That said, he was a strong leader, and Mao probably did more to burn bridges than Khrushchev. Things between us should have worked out better. To be allies and friends against NATO would have had mutual benefit, rather than mundane disagreements over ideology.
I'm glad you can recognize that Mao bears some responsibility for the Sino-Soviet Split rather than just blaming everything on Khrushchev, this sort of nuance is unfortunately quite rare among the western left, but I'm just glad that China and Russia have since re-established their alliance against NATO.
@@cooperrush6474 Because in 1951-1957 the Soviet government had changed too much. In 1956 Lazar Khanotovich was expulsed out the party and the government due to being convinced as a American spy. In the China's Communist Party, Israel Epstein from the US joined the party and helped to established new China as a "New American's weapon" against the Soviet. Israel Epstein had many contributed to re-connect China and the US as allies, the China's reformed during late 1960s and 1970s.

Надеюсь таких глупостей больше никогда не будет, и будем жить как друзья, развиваться и наслаждаться жизнью
As Kazakh. I must say that Mao was number 1 Stalinist. That's why the USSR-China relationship went bad. Maybe Stalin was bad and bloodthirsty, but he was smart and did a lot for his country. Can't say that about Mao, he almost ruined China and it's people.
Today in the West he has become unwittingly revered by millions of patriots....particularly over the whole Crimea topic.
Agreeing with one thing isn't the same a patriotism. Hitler loved animals and animal rights, it doesn't mean that one's a nazi. Use logic, you make yourself look foolish by spouting ill though gibberish and you make your ideology look bad by you being part of it.
Is there an english translation anywhere on this speech?

This clip does not seem to be the same one as the 1960 one in which NK was even angrier responding to the Philippine delegate's accusations. He is calmer here; no shoe-banging and is wearing a darker suit than other footage I have seen of him at the ACTUAL 1960 Session.
he never band his shoes against the desk. that was american propaganda.
+Igi Ljepoja That's what I said: there was "no shoe-banging." So what's your point???
+mylesag2 sorry I misinterpreted your sentance :(
+Igi Ljepoja No prob.
+mylesag2 The video description does not claim it's the shoe banging incident. Reading K's own memoirs, he admits to banging his shoe. The exact circumstances are confusing, but it seems that his shoe came off, he was unable to put it back on due to his weight (as his son Sergei claims), and then, after breaking his watch while pounding his fist on the table, he resumed pounding with the shoe, which was just a handy thing to hit the table with. The whole thing, regardless of the exact circumstances, gravely embarrassed the Kremlin and the entire Eastern Bloc at the time, despite the brave face they put on it.

HELLO SEA CREATURES
I bring you greetings from Apple World
Greetings.
My great-grandfather, having spent thirty-six years in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and then the last ten years of his life in the United States, told me that "Khrushchev was as Imperialistic as Comrade Stalin was." He was a member of the party from 1956 until 1992, and he saw how far the Soviet Union went, as much as the United States had. We may no longer have an Empire, but we are going to keep fighting against tyranny, racism, and dictatorship. Long live democracy! Long live Republicanism! Long live peace!
Если бы ваш прадед не провëл 10 лет в США, то он иначе бы думал о политике СССР !!
С кем поведешься, как говорится, того и наберешься!
@@user-xd2oh3xy4s He knew about the Soviet Union's Imperialism, as a member of the Party. Both countries were imperialistic. However, one of them does not exist anymore, and another one is blossoming in a way it never had before.
The Philippines delegation is the one he pointing at
This IS him, but it is not the speech that mace him infamous in America. The one which made him infamous was the one where he beat on the desk with his shoe and said, "you think we are scared of you? We will bury you Americans with a shovel/"
I watched that speech as a kid and for the next 30 years that lone speech shaped EVERYTHING about American foreign policy and how we viewed the USSR.
He never said that, it is a myth. Widespread on the west, I suppose, spread on purpose rather than because of bad translation.
Yep. My dad told me about how he saw that on TV as a child and it sent chills. Everyone thought we were about to go to war.
@@bluesdealer Yes. CBS filmed it live and millions saw and heard it. Years later in the Brezhnev era the tape of that day disappeared from the CBS film vault and the USSR began denying it had ever happened, but too late dudes, we had watched it live and know who the enemy is. In 92 we had hopes things had changed, but as Ukraine and Russian State TV shows, nope. They are still rabid dogs and dangerous.

It takes some patience to listen, observing the profoundly dubious content of this speech. Example: Khrushchev claimed the Soviets would never impose their system on other countries. That didn't begin to explain why the Kremlin kept sending tanks and troops into any nation that had ambitions for self-rule, to break away, until the union went broke itself in 1989. Another: Mr. K rattled on about Western imperialism while the USSR was just as eager to expand their own control around the world, from Europe, to eastern Asia, to Africa, and to Latin and South Americas. All he buried the viewers with is baloney.
Consider the facts. General Khrushchev commanded the militarized political police during the battle of Stalingrad. Earlier he supported Stalin's ruthless purges, and intimately extended Stalin's personal atrocities in his governorship of his native Ukraine since 1939, where Mr. K personally led purges there. He effectively was a political intermediate between Stalin and his military services generals. Guess who commanded enforcement of the infamous Order 227 in Ukraine, a large part of the bloodiest theater in military history? You got it, it was Comrade K.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_No._227
Power didn't buy love in the communist party. Big K's protégé in Ukraine was none other than Leonid Brezhnev, who later led the plot to depose Khrushchev, after years of support and guidance from the portly politician. What else could anybody expect from a guy who eagerly received Hero of the Soviet Union medals (and related honors) -- he had over 100 medals -- as birthday gifts? A rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union came with his 70th birthday.
Blacklist brought me to learn some history.

He tells about "imperialist policy" of U.S. Very incorrect language, talks like a farmer.
Иван Паньков He was from Ukraine. His Russian probably wasn't perfect.
realevilcorgi No, there is no Ukrainian accent in his language (maybe just a little). But he talks exactly like peasant, very emotionally, with many informal and rude words. That's completly unsuitable for leader of such rank.
Imagine a farmer or cowboy as president of superpower with the largest nuclear arsenal. This is the same.
Иван Паньков oh. Yeah, that sounds a lot like him. He was kind of incompitent, he only got his position because Stalin killed all of the better candidates.
***** Yeah, he did. Don't get me wrong, he was a pretty cool guy. He was well intentioned, and I feel like he tried to do the best with the shit situation he was given.
He was just a not very smart guy. If he were smarter, Stalin would probably have seen him as a threat and had him killed

Did he say America will fall from within?
If you refer to the statement that Secretary Khrushchev made in 1963, "Your own [the capitalist states'] working class will bury you," then he did not use the words or phrasing which you have written. And the Secretary's expression does not specifically refer to the United States, although the US-being a capitalist country-was included within the scope of his prediction.
The image described by the Secretary is an image of the capitalist countries being buried by those countries' own working classes.
Since a country's own working class is found within that country itself, then it is not too much of a stretch to answer your question by saying _Yes_ because Secretary Khrushchev seemed to have meant that the capitalist countries (including America, among others) would fall from within.
