There is a delicate balance between being "stoic" (never showing your feelings) or getting very emotional all the time over small things. You should never feel the need to apologize when you have an emotional reaction to a song like this. Those watching your channel know that you both are good human beings and that you love each other very much. The world needs more people like you two!!
Cat has always been a seeker of what’s right and divine. Andre, I cannot tell you how much your emotional response has hit me. Thank you both for the depth and sincerity of this and all your reactions. You are both gems!
The first verse is the Father's view, the 2nd verse is the Son's view. When this song first came out, I was a young girl and I related to the 2nd verse but now I am older and relate to the Father's view. This song is beautiful and timeless 💞
I am a 75 year old mother and grandmother and I relate to the child. We can’t live our children’s lives. Yes, we can guide them, but they must eventually be allowed to make their own choices and decisions. Always listen to them or they will stop talking to us.
@@sandrapeters6064 as a 63 year old Mother of 2 Sons, I now understand the Father's view and wisdom he was trying to convey to the Son. When we are young, we want instant EVERYTHING. But we also need to remember that we have parents who have learned from experiences and have wisdom to share
@@bridgetmccracken1381 I actually did learn from my parent's wisdom. They wanted me to follow my dream whatever it was. They were always there to support and advise me. Months after my brother moved out, my mother and I got a call from him. I took the call. He was in Alaska. He was cold, tired and lonely, and was thinking of coming home. "Don't tell mom," he urged. My mother sensed something was wrong and picked up the phone. "Are you okay," she asked. "I'm okay. Everything's good. I'm making money." My mother asked him if he'd like to come home. I recently lost my Mother, she was 93. My biggest regret is that I didn't appreciate her life advice when I was young and only felt she was trying to 'run' my life. I fear I was obstinate at times and caused her heartache. I miss her so much now and would give anything to sit with her and talk over those times. I totally lost it, sobbing while I listening to this old song, which I've heard many times. The song also applies to Mothers and Daughters.
SO sorry for your loss! I lost my mum over 17 years ago! I also used to clash with my mum because I felt she did take over, even as an adult! I loved her so much and I miss her a lot! Peace and Blessings to you and yours from Australia!
Andre, you are a beautiful soul ! Doesn't take a genius to know you've had some trauma in your life. It's OK to remember, it's OK to cry. It's not weakness, it's human. Hindsight is damaging. We all wish some things had been different but we must move on and grow. You are absolutely doing that with that other beautiful soul sitting next to you. Lean on each other. I get it. My Dad died while I was in the Navy in '82. I thought he was Superman and would live forever. 1 year later I lost some of my right arm in an explosion. Everything he taught me made me a better man. Love both of you.
Without a doubt, these two are my favorite reviewers of music on the internet. They really show the power of music and well written lyrics.😢. I love their emotional reactions and how honest they are. They are people I would love to be friends with.
When he's singing softer it's from the fathers point of view, when he raises his voice it's the son. Please don't ever apologise for showing your emotions, it's why we are here....to see a genuine emotional reaction. My father passed suddenly when i was only 13 and he was 42. This song means so much to me and i can't listen without some tears
Same here. Lost my dad when I was 5, and I miss him every day. I can't wait to meet him again in heaven. Now I'm the father of 2 sons and love them with a fierceness I can't explain. I cannot in any way understand the "ewww, children" mindset. It's a sign of how broken our culture is.
Such a deep and powerful song. Cat Stevens, Yusuf, was not afraid of revealing truths that crack the heart open. He returned singing now at old age and he is still great. At his time he was as big as the Beatles, he wrote all his music himself, one of the greatest.
Andrei, Dominika, thank you. So much of Cat's music was written from the heart. Thanks so much for your heartfelt reaction. Andrei, no need to apologize for your emotions. What kind of human would we be, if we didn't have deep feelings. I'm 68 years old, now. I would give anything to have just one more conversation with my father. I miss him a lot.
I thoroughly enjoyed your moving reaction to this classic song by Cat Stevens. This song was released when I was about 20 years old, and it’s wonderful to hear it again. Both of you are delightful.
This great song "Father & Son" by singer/songwriter and Folk Rock Legend Cat Stevens. Done (53) years ago is from his great album "Tea for the Tillerman (1971)." It was featured in the hit Movie "Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017)." A Father who does not want to let go of his son. Thinking he is not yet ready to face the trials and tribulations that comes with being independent and facing a cruel hard world. And a Son who wants to leave home to make his own way in the world regardless of the warnings from his Father. Genius and hauntingly beautiful. Priceless. I was 17 years old when this came out in 1971. Today I am a 70-year-old senior citizen watching this lovely couple reacting to the music of my youth. Brilliant!
It is very hard to watch you go through the pain! I completely understand. You ware your heart on your shoulder. I thank you for showing me that I'm not the only one that hearts over the relationship with their father. I am desperately trying to build that with my sons. Thank you, guys, for shearing your heart. It means a lot more than you could ever know!!!
Thank you so much for your truly emotional reaction. I'm still touched every time I hear this as much as I did when I first heard, some fifty plus years ago. God Bless

When Cat Stevens was producing songs in the late 60's early 70's, I for one was in love the music, then later on I came to realize that I was not alone, the whole world loved Cat's music, everyone you conversed with about music, all liked his music, a lasting legacy which the world is grateful. and really blessed for his contribution to people's lives' who heard his messages of peace and love.
Cat Stevens sings this song brilliantly, you'll notice how he sings in two different keys one for the father's voice and a slightly higher key for the son's, a true conversation between generations in song, absolutely magical and sung with such passion. Another beautiful reaction from you both, loving your work on here because you aren't afraid to let us know how you're feeling. You are clearly very caring good people and are much appreciated in a world that is often cold and heartless.
Cat was such a great folk artist. No shame in tears, the torch keeps passing from one generation to another. Us older ones die off, the younger ones learn from trial and error, the wise ones learn from their fathers and grand fathers. His guitar and lyrics have so much meaning.
Thank you for your beautiful review. It’s ok to be emotional as most of us are empathetic and we all have emotions that can be brought out by this music. Thanks for being great reviewers!
Dear MerchantOfAlba - big, no - HUGE hug to you both. Thankfully my parents totally accepted my black wife and LOVE their mixed race grandchild, but not all are so accepting. And, for 22 years she has been a pure joy and constant worry - exactly how children should be.
This is a conversation between the Father and son. The first verse is the Father, and the second verse sung in a higher tone is the son...and back and forth it goes throughout the song. Such a beautiful song and loved your emotional reaction. Love the both of you!
This is the second reaction you have done that has left me in tears. You should never apologize for your honest emotions. Cat Stevens has a way of touching your soul with his songs. Love your reactions. ❤
I never had a loving or supportive father, but this song makes me understand and wish that I had simply misunderstood him and that there was a hope and a need for reconciliation. For that reason the song still hits me hard and I cry still as a 72 year old man/father.
I worked with Yusuf in the 1980s. This is definitely one of my favourite songs. Interesting story. We co-wrote a song called 'Children of Lebanon', on which I sang lead vocals and he sang backing vocals. It was due to be released on a charity album, with songs by various artists, as part of the campaign to get hostages in Lebanon released. However, a few days before the release date, the hostages were released and the album wasn't. I still have the master tape somewhere.
I very much appreciate your pure reactions and that even though you are 'here' for your audience, you continually care for one another when a song draws forth deep emotions

He prayed words under an open Heaven , to make us think about 50 later ... to remind us what it was all about . And this man did this in that young age . ( Father and Son ) never any song touched me more than that , when I was just 13 years old !!! Many others of his free thinking man's songs are great and timeless also
My dad died in 2009 and this song came to mind immediately since I left home for the military at 17yrs old. I was able to tell him that almost everything he tried to teach me was right but I was an a$$hole and didn't get it right away. I am now 63 and have a 12yr old son and I am raising him to be able to leave home as I did and survive. I need him to understand that it has to be a "man" and deal with life as it should be. The kids today are so lazy and screwed up by social media that I can NOT have him go down that path. I can see you have deep feelings and that is how it should be, it shows just how much you respected your dad for what he taught you. I tear up at this song as well.
I've heard this song many times. It still gets me in the lower throat region and I never fail to shed a few tears. When a song hits, it hits. No shame.
He is giving gifts with his music, lyrics and songs. Andre, you have every right to have an emotional response to this one. It is a good thing. As, Cat Stevens does, as you wife stated, he offers intense music so delicately. Appreciations to you two for sharing this.
Once again, thank you both. I feel your pain and regret, Andre. Isn't it strange really. We are all the same, wherever in the world we are from. We all have made the same mistakes and have the same regrets. Your pain is worth sharing, my friends. It brings us all together and helps us come to terms with our mistakes. We are not alone in our choices. Good or bad. Xx
I'm strange. At 77 years of age I still relate to the son in this story... I still dream of a better world, even if it seems further away then it used to...
Looking back on my life, I see how fortunate I was during my junior high school years to have Cat Stevens, Carly Simon, CSNY and Elton John (to name a few) to give me songs to think about and help me through those rough years.
I grew up in hard place and I never show emotion in public. It is so refreshing to see a man feel so sincerely. You got me tearing up. Don't tell anyone :)
🇬🇧 Dominika, Andrei. Im playing catch up with your reactions (ive been away). As soon as i saw which song you were reacting to, i went straight for the tissues. I just knew it would make Andrei cry. This is a heartfelt song that brings out so many emotions, especially on sons. Don't apologize for your reactions to music, different songs bring out different emotions. Music should always touch us.
"It's Hard" - of course, it's father and son relations. Both always need to understand all of the words come from love. Maybe not always the best said, but always meant for the best. Mothers add so much to this conversation, even without saying much - and they help to make the conversation stay in lane of caring and love. Bless you both and bless Yusef, a master.
Every man I've seen react to this song has had the same emotional reaction to the lyrics, particularly the part where he says .."you will still be here tomorrow but your dreams may not".
I am in my late sixties now and I still remember my father and him telling me how things change in life.He never had a desire for anything greater than having a good life with my Mom and my Sister and me.He taught me everything he could and it has served me well.Time is insidious and dreams you have as a boy sometimes never happens as you growup.
Loved his music growing up as a teenager and at the time did not fully appreciate the gravity of his music and poetry. Thank you to channels like yours that his magic is shared again. All masterpieces. God bless you both; in an uncertain world we need more beautiful ppl like you 🙏🏼
Don’t feel bad, Andre. I’m right there with you. When this first came out, I was 16 or 17. I thought it was a nice tune, but it didn’t mean much to me. Now, it hit me like a ton of bricks, and so did your reaction. Thank you for sharing this moment with us.

Thank you for your honest emotions and reaction.. it's not a sin to cry.
Beautiful review from both of you.this song obviously touched you both deeply.
Beautiful reaction, you two.
I cried along with you.
Vulnerability is freedom.
Beautifully said. Thank you 😊
BIG HUGS TO YOU BOTH ❤.
Great reaction guys, made me teary too 👍
You are both so wonderful x
Looking back on my life, I see how fortunate I was during my junior high school years to have Cat Stevens, Carly Simon, CSNY and Elton John (to name a few) to give me songs to think about and help me through those rough years.
I’ve just lost my first born son a month ago, I’m in bits listening to this, I share your tears
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you both of showing your venerability. I love your sweet relationship.
I grew up in hard place and I never show emotion in public. It is so refreshing to see a man feel so sincerely. You got me tearing up. Don't tell anyone :)
Fifty years ago I attended a Cat Stevens concert at NYC Carnegie Hall; it was wonderful.
🇬🇧 Dominika, Andrei. Im playing catch up with your reactions (ive been away). As soon as i saw which song you were reacting to, i went straight for the tissues. I just knew it would make Andrei cry. And in turn i knew it would make me cry too. Andrei... you are such a beautiful human, you both are tbh. You're a perfect match. And please.....Stop apologising for being beautiful people! & For goodness sake, NEVER stop being you. All your subscribers keep coming back because we love who you are. You make us cry😢. But you make us laugh even more 😂❤🎶🎼
music is very powerful. You two are caring people thats a good trait.
Not forgetting of course, it’s also a brilliant tune!
😢😢😢The tune, the dynamic performance and impassioned vocal.
It could be about his favorite football team and still be worth listening to.
Such a beautiful thing- being able to convey such emotion. One of the main reasons I come here is to share this. Thank you.
I understand your pain. I was 18 when my Father passed. He was 48. I'm now in my 60's and have my own Grandchildren.
"Think of everything you've got, for you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not". Oh, that verse.
Harry Chapins Cats In A Cradle is another Father and Son song.
Music is therapeutic. It heals the soul.
Best reaction to "Father & Son" ever! (I don't even have a son and this is the song I want played at my funeral.)
Ah but you had a father.
Every man I've seen react to this song has had the same emotional reaction to the lyrics, particularly the part where he says .."you will still be here tomorrow but your dreams may not".
A beautiful song. Some touch the heart brother.
I am in my late sixties now and I still remember my father and him telling me how things change in life.He never had a desire for anything greater than having a good life with my Mom and my Sister and me.He taught me everything he could and it has served me well.Time is insidious and dreams you have as a boy sometimes never happens as you growup.
We all have regrets and as we get older we see things from a different perspective. Much love Andrei ❤❤
He's actually singing both parts, the father and the son. Listen closely to the words to see which one is talking in the song.
