8:01 I notice the coating on the grouphead here appears to be bubbling from beneath, that is, between the substrate (cast alumimium?) and the coating. Can you, or anyone watching, tell me why and whether this would (a) unsafe and (b) a warranty issue? I wouldn't fancy the coating flaking off and entering the coffee stream...

Thanks for tuning in & great attention to detail.
I would assume this is caused by long term neglect (not warranty) & it probably isn't ideal to have foreign objects potentially making their way into your coffee, but I would say the insides of a boiler that has been neglected would be far more problematic than this.
      I hope this helps.

The mode you are using is for the pill. There is the descaling mode where you turn off the machine and press a couple of buttons and it goes in descale mode.
Is this a better way to do it?

    • @mitchdoescoffee
      @mitchdoescoffee  5 місяців тому

Either way is perfectly fine. You can do it completely manual also. 👍

Hi Mitch! I just found your site while trying to get the steam wand to heat the milk correctly. I have a Breville Bambino and the steam wand kind of stops heating, while making a think screechy noise( different from the louder screechy noise). I'm going to descale again after watching your video but is there more I can do for the wand? Steam comes out of the part where the espresso comes out or that area. I'm relatively new to this coffee game. Thanks, Heather

I think I bought it in '21. Your video helped alot. I descaled it twice and made sure the wand was cleared with the descaling solution. Unfortunately I can not get the liquid descaler in the States but the Breville powder seems to work fine.

@h.c.b.4107 it sounds like you arent getting full boiler temp/pressure.
Possibly a temp sensor issue or a triac board. Do you have Breville technicians nearby?

@@mitchdoescoffeethat's the challenging part. appliance repairs around here are large appliances. Plus in looking at other people's situations with their smaller espresso machines, the repair costs more than the replacement. I can't find any official Breville techs in Los Angeles.

the "descale" procedure done in this video is incorrect. The cleaning cycle he uses to "descale" allows the descale solution only in the brew head as the "cleaning cycle" is cleaning the brew head only, not the steam boiler. No descale solution is going into the steam boiler. (and the steam boiler needs to be descaled more than the brew head) There is a specific descale mode for the dual boiler (Follow the manual for the dual boiler to do proper descale. The procedure is very different from the "Cleaning cycle") Most people descale with no issues and Breville recommends descaling its machines, however, there a numerous complaints by dual boiler owners (online posts) about the descale procedure causing problems after the process, mainly the steam boiler not filling up. Do some research to decide if you want to descale or not

The water in the boilers doesn't have descaler in it. The water in the boilers is there when he turned it on so the added descaler is in the tank. Then he says to clean out the water tank, so the descaler doesn't get into the boilers. Since he isn't doing this while explaining it it may be a disconnect with what he says and what he means.
I've had my OEM gasket for 7 years but I don't use the machine every day.

    Loved your video!!
Found it while trying to figure out why my Barista Express, this morning and after daily 12 years of use, sort it gave up and would trip the GFCI outlet upon hitting the ON button.
I think seeing you operate that model may have convinced me to upgrade to it. Good idea? Is that a good upgrade for someone that enjoys making coffee on the express but is ready for the next level?

Yes, the Dual boiler would be the best Breville in my opinion.
However, check out some other brands like Gaggia & Rancillio as they will give you a far better espresso & last a lifetime if looked after.

Cleaning Cycle is meant for powder or pill not for descaling the descaling cycle is a different function.

The factory breville setting are designed to barely get the machine through the warranty period... Look at how many machines fail after the warranty runs out after following the advised cleaning schedule. 👍
