    This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

    Thanks so much for this. Came upon this while looking for a solution to my Breville randomly stopping giving shots except for a couple of sad drips. We've tried buying new cups, descaling and thoroughly cleaning the dispense. Long story short I've just now changed the grind
    level on my grinder (it was turned all the way down to Turkish 🤦🏽‍♂️) and we'll see how it goes. That solution makes sense as the Machine itself is in proper working order. Thanks again bruv!

    Hi Kev and everyone, love the videos, they're super helpful!
    I bought the Sage Dual Boiler a little over 2 months ago. It's great, however I get super inconsistent shots, almost every time I go to use it. Same grind size, same water temp using filtered water, same coffee (fresh, roasted within the last 2 weeks), same dose, same everything. Back to back shots, I'd get 18g in 36 out in 25 seconds, 28, 30, 33. For this particular coffee I dialed in at 18g in 36 out in 27 seconds. Programmed the shot timer but get a different result every time. I can't work it out, even the pressure gauge seems consistent.
    I'm pretty confident that my work flow is correct as well. I own a Varia VS3 grinder and Normcore tools including the bottomless portafilter and spring loaded tamper, wdt tool. My work flow doesn't change, it's the same for each and every shot, which is why I'm confused as to what is going wrong!
    Has anyone had this issue? If so, please help! Thank you!

    You lightly touch on the volumetric buttons. I’ll just go ahead and say that it’s better to pull shots manually. There’s too many variables for a programmed volumetric shot and you may not get the result you’re expecting. Manual shots using a shot timer(like on the Pro) along with scales helps me diagnose problems with my puck prep quickly. I also like the pre-infusion control aspect of manual (8 seconds for me).

      Couldn't agree more with this. I got a Barista Express Impress at the start of December because I didn't want a new hobby and really wanted that assisted experience, however after one of Kev's other videos I realised I was getting 1:3.5 ratio consistently and didn't seem to be able to permanently change the programmed volume.

    Here's one: Inconsistent shot volumes! After calibrating the machine to dispense as many grams of espresso as I want and saving it, over the course of a few days, it seems to gradually lose its memory and revert to the full default shot volume.
    Puck prep involves WDT and calibrated tamping with the same beans so I doubt that's contributing to the issue. This is a Bambino plus I'm using.

      I get similar with Barista Express Impress. With the same batch of beans and no changes to grind settings I get anywhere from 17g-19g in, and usually 52-58g out.

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  Рік тому +1

      Hi Karl, re changing internal burr setting - video coming soon, but basically there's no benefit of changing it any finer than 5 (from factory pre-set 6) internally. Setting it to 5 if your burrs are relatively new will just give you the ability to go slightly finer, it's as if the grinder has a little bit more in the bag that is hidden by being set at 6, but going beyond that doesn't achieve anything as I'll explain in more detail (and demonstrate) in the upcoming video. Ta, Kev.

    Have to disagree there Kev. I'm an entry level kinda guy, Lelit Fred grinder and Sage Bambino machine. Vst shower screen and basket. But I do get a fantastic cup I enjoy to the fullest and save a couple of Gs in the process!

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  Рік тому +1

      Good stuff Nigel! I'm not saying no one can get good results with slightly lighter roasted single origins, for example, with an entry level setup. Some home baristas may well have the chops to pull of great shots with less forgiving beans via more entry level setups, but it's harder, so a lot of people will find it easier to get decent tasting shots by using more forgiving beans. Ta, Kev.

      @Coffee Kev Thankyou for the reply. I retract my initial statement and apologise. I completely agree with what you're saying there. There certainly are easier ways!

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  Рік тому

      @@carpNcoffee No apology required 😀, you weren't wrong, I think maybe I just stated that point in a way that made it appear I was saying that entry level setups can't deal with anything but espresso blends, that's not what I was meaning to say.
      Ah yes, decent espresso is a must while carp fishing! ;-). I used to fish, but coarse fishing, I wouldn't have had the patience for carp fishing - except floating crust, caught a few nice carp that way, and they were all "THIS BIG!!!", hehe.
      I think it just depends on the user, there's a growing number of manual options now and there are pros and cons for each.

    The reason most people drink milkies is that we don’t like the taste of straight espresso. It doesn’t really have chocolate, caramel, etc. notes. Once you add milk and sweeteners subtle changes in extractions, sourness, bitterness, etc. go by the wayside.

    I have a Sage Duo Temp Pro. It is 5 years old. It started to leak and particularly on the steamer low pressure and volume. Sage offer a £199 charge or 20% off a new machine at rrp. There are service centres who might charge less. Posting is from £19 (if insured).
    I did look inside, what can be unscrewed but some panels don't shift and I did not want to use plastic breaking force. I assume some plastic pipe has likely to have cracked. As pump and heating is all fine it ought not to be a £199 particularly when that charge included new grinder blades (?) and descaling (I use filtered water so no lime scales).

    This is the NEWer disc for the Barista Pro. If you call Breville or Sage you’ll get this information. Those who are saying buy a disc without a hole should perhaps phone the manufacturer. The older disc without the hole apparently caused problems with the Barista Pro.
    If you run the Flush without the tray grid you’ll see that some of the water does back flush through the machine.
    Tested:
    Stock Portafilter (PF) - which I only use for Back-flushing (on the display called Flush), I use a Normcore bottomless for making espresso.
    Stock 1 cup dual walled basket.
    The disc that now comes with the Barista Pro, the one with the hole.
    One Cafiza tablet.
    Total liquid 450ml
    Via the PF 300ml
    Back-flush into the tray 150ml

    I’m having a weird issue when it comes to dialling in. I ended up with two lots of beans at the same time so I used some to try (Baytown bends and caravan daily) and then froze the rest in vacuum sealed bags. The unfrozen ones went fine, dialled pretty easily. When I’ve come to use the frozen version, it all goes wrong! Last week I tried the caravan ones, today I’ve tried the Baytown ones. Initially (on about a 14 on my impress), I got 24g out on the first go, so I went coarser and then I got a very thin ‘drippy’ stream which then eventually stopped and was way less than 24g.
    Last week, the first espresso came out fine, but the second and third followed the same pattern as todays. I gave up and tried the next morning and it was fine save a bit of adjusting you’d expect.
    I’ve no idea what the issue is, it seems like my machine just doesn’t like frozen beans, but it acts in the way I’d least expect! Have you any ideas what I’m doing wrong please?

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  Рік тому

      when you say "frozen beans" you mean they were frozen, you then let them thaw and you're now using them and keeping them out of the freezer, or do you mean you're taking them out of the freezer, using them and then putting them back in? Ta, Kev.

      The former - I ended up with a lot of coffee in a short space of time, so I split them into individual 100-112g bags and froze them all. The first time it had happened, the beans were straight from the freezer. Have tried it this morning with a pack id taken out of the freezer last night so had defrosted! This morning, the first espresso came out fine but second/third immediately after were rubbish. Took 50 seconds to get to 28g out on the third! Same grind size (happy to change it, but I don’t think that’s the initial issue)

    Great video Kev. Thanks.
    My issue with the barrista express:
    In order to get 1:2 ratio in around 20-25 seconds (from first drop in cup) I need around 19gr very finely ground coffee in my portafilter.
    19gr is the very maximum to maintain sufficient clearance above the puck.
    My grind setting is so fine that I'm constantly bordering on choking the machine.
    Finer grind with less coffee just chokes the machine.
    My pressure gauge is always at the very max of the "espresso range" as sage calls it - if not beyond.
    Makes a decent cuppa (I always drink as americano) but just wondering if I'm doing it all wrong?

      Yeah I'd say the entry level Mignons may struggle a bit with lighter roasts, the higher level versions with the slightly bigger burrs (specialita for example) will probably do better, although there may be some beans that these don't quite have the grunt to deal with properly. Ta, Kev.

    What to do if machine is simply not working something like that #1 case but the water won’t come out even if you don’t put the basket with coffee grounds inside. You can hear the noise, as usual when it was working, but the water is only going to waste water container. I don’t think changing coffee grounds would be any help in this case. The pressure is not moving at all.

      I had this problem to at first so I tested using the pressure basket and the pressure went up so it at least meant my machine was working.
      So I ended up using a finer grind .
      Atm I’m using a supermarket brand and my pressure is still low, it’s in the finest grind setting so I’m assuming it’s cause the beans are old ( it doesn’t state the roast date on the bag)

    My entry level Breville (click to L for extraction, click R for steam, no grinder) works well but sometimes the shot fizzes on exit and produces too much froth. I use the same purchased pre-ground coffee all the time and I always make it the same way.The only variable I can think of is how the coffee sits when put in the bowl-thing that is clicked in to the machine. Is it caused by tamping too hard or not enough, or maybe tiny air holes in the deposited ground beans before tamping? Or something else?

    Hi Kev Awesome video! I have been repairing an old Breville Oracle BES980XL over the past month.
    I have scoured the internet for answers but cannot find a solution to my problem anywhere, Maybe you could help?
    Everything works well on my machine - BUT when the machine heats up to temperature, steam is coming out of the water tank/container valve :/ The water in the water tank actually boiled and the spring loaded valve in the water container has actually melted.
    I have taken apart both the steam solenoid and the hot water solenoid and couldn't find any obvious signs why they shouldn't work. I've also tried adjusting both Over Pressure Valves. Would you have any advice or tips on how i can stop the steam returning to the water tank? Many thanks.

      I'd try removing the hopper, cleaning, removing the top burr, vacuuming, and then backing off the grind setting with the thumb wheel before replacing the top burr and making sure it clicks into place ( the final millimetre ). I had the same problem, and I watched a video on altering the inner burr setting, and I saw that the top burr actually clicked into place. My grinder then worked great. There is also backlash in the grinders, so if you want to grind one setting coarser, it's best to go coarser three notches and then back down two. Like if you were on a lathe with backlash, always alter the setting from the same direction going finer.
      Cheers ☕ George

      Hi Lucy, first thought would be hardened filter, but if you've tried without the filter that rules that out, next would be is the water tank defo seated properly? But I'm guessing you'll have double checked that. So if you have you'll probably need to get onto support if it's in warranty, or find an engineer to look at it for you if it's not.
