She was a bad sister, I mean she knew her art, she could do anything, I just miss these women, so beautiful bright intelligent and yes I love her in Melinda she was so smart beautiful good part, and yes she is a Queen.
Thank you for this. Rosalind Cash and Vonetta McGee were TRULY ahead of the curve and their time. Shame they didn't live to see a better Black Hollywood come into fruition, but they paved the way for the critical thinking that comes with our representation.
She was so bright, beautiful and insightful ! And it's true, Black Americans gave representation to all Black people worldwide, whether Africans, Africans raised in Europe or Carribeans (I'm a Congolese raised in France myself)...
How refreshing to see a Sister and Queen who knows who she was and made the decision to live her life on her terms. What a lesson she taught in this interview. What sheer beauty.!!
@@katizz988 yes. There were others. But during the early 80's, you didn't see too many wearing them. It didn't really become popular until the late 80's early 90s with the Black American masses.
@@epicsseven7686 Exactly. There were others, but Ms. Cash was one of the earlier celebrities we saw, who wasn’t Bob Marley, with locs. And this was long before we knew of Whoopi Goldberg. I just watched Ms. Cash in Sister, Sister...an excellent actress. Also, just saw the interviewer S. Pearl Sharp on Good Times and Barnaby Jones...yet another fine Black actress! 👍💯😊🙏
Yes, Beloved Sister Queen Artist Rosalind Cash! Continue to rest easy, a life well lived with a sense of purpose. Such a beautiful soul and spirit! 🙏👏🫶❤️💛🖤💚🎤👑🦁🔥🎶📽📺🎥🎬🏆
She really was a lovely woman, strong, independent and proud! I just wish she could've mentioned in her '81 interview about working on the film she's best known for, "The Omega Man!" I would like to have seen and heard her talk about working with Charlton Heston!🎥♎
She made film history in The Omega Man as Lisa. And she ended up being the glue of the movie. In less than an hour, she portrayed a hardened apocalyptic survivor, an intelligent counterpoint to the brutality of Charlton Heston, and a deranged albino plague infected cult follower. Everything in this interview is the character Lisa. So genuine.
The moment i saw Rosalind in Omega man i was ready to turn the film off, dreading the possibility of moral lectures, she very quickly won me over. Its really a shame scenes were cut from the film, probably would have made her even more famous and a better film. I enjoyed Omega man a lot.
Melinda is my all-time favorite movie. And oddly enough, I was dating a young lady named Melinda, and that is why I originally went to see it. So glad I did!
When I was a teenager my friend was spending the day shopping with me and my mom soon as my mom heard the first cuss word she said we are leaving she asked for a refund and we went to another theater and saw sounder …lol
I recall one of her close to final appearances was as a school teacher in The Fresh Prince of BA when Will had to dress up as a sunflower in a school production in order to graduate...😎
So beautiful and gifted. You just wish you could have known her. 1981, the year this interview was made, was a bad period for blacks in film. Blaxploitation had ended. The WIz had flopped in the theaters two years earlier. Jim Brown, Richard Pryor and Fred Williamson had screwed up Indigo productions and Hollywood issued a moratorium on all black projects, claiming they made no money and were bad investments. Blacks were dead in the water from 81 to 1985 when Bill Cosby surfaces with his show. Which no one expected would work, as sitcoms were considered a dead art form. Cosby saves the sitcom, Spike Lee surfaces 2 years after that. John Singleton (RIP) and Robert Townsend shortly after that, and then its back on. But when it was time to knock down doors, we always had the shining example of Rosalind Cash making history and breaking new ground with Chartlon Heston on the silver screen to remind us of what's possible. From Kerry Washington on down, they all stand on this queens shoulders.
@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc Tales from the hood was her last big screen motion picture, she actually had a came in a movie starring Todd Bridges and Anna Marie Horsford titled Circle of pain.
As one of those 'Black Cockneys' in England, I can say we all enjoyed when Rosalind on screen.. one of the first Black women on TV and screen to wear dreadlocks unashamedly, a whole decade before Whoopi Goldberg! The film she refers to with Oliver Reed and Glenda Jackson is a cult classic now, as it featured some of the 'Brit Pack' that would go on in other diverse films, like Quadraphenia, Breaking Glass, Scum and Babylon. It was set and filmed in a rough part of London, but Rosalind showed class throughout. And if she suffered any negativity it didn't show. I hope she came down to North West London at that time, she would have been shown love and respect! A class act, truly missed R.I.P.
Please no disrespect meant here at all,and i preface by saying that because a lot of these sisters are no longer here. But when we were young men in the 70's we were in love with these sisters on screen like Rosalind cash,Pam Grier,Judy Pace,Vonetta Magee, Tracy Reed,Paula Kelly etc.
I like everything about this interview because to me it shows once again as a people why we need our own! I wish in my lifetime our people would wake up separate and have our own! Lord knows our ancestors paid the price! They are as racist as they've ever been, it's more hidden but it's there! Hiring practices and tokenism and there are still instances where "the first black to do this, the first black to be"! Forget trying to be included in that which really don't want to include you! Having your own as a people will eliminate these atrocities!
My aunt Rosalind was the real deal and definitely a inspiration to all women young and old. My aunt refused to let the industry exploit her.
She’s gorgeous.
