Surprising to see how Latin America stays some years behind regarding consumer electronics, the 11.6" 360 is a new release here in 2018, and it is not exactly cheap. The Celeron variant sells for about 400 USD and the Pentium variant sells for 500 USD here in Mexico.
Lon, the new revision is slightly lighter about 15% thinner. They removed the Cat5, and button. Screen isn't great but it does the job for basic work functions. It looks like HP listened to you and removed the tap by default on the touchpad. It's one of the few laptops I've had where I didn't really need a mouse. Like Garcia the Dog said, the hard drive is replaceable, cracking open the case the drive is there easy to replace, but recommend an HP authorized repair center to do it for those not tech savvy. Memory not so easy, they actually put it UNDER the motherboard. Compared to other laptops its size, the 2016 model (or one sold by HP in 2017), has the better specs (outside of the screen resolution)
Nice build quality except the display. It's not laminated to the glas? The spinning harddrive is a good thing, it means you can replace it with a standard SSD
Excellent review, I currently use the hp spectre x360, I use the tablet mode with a dell venue stylus for writing notes in class. This may be a good lower end laptop for my brother. I hope you are going to do a apple pencil vs other stylus comparasion, but I guess not many people write notes by hand on their laptops these days. Enough of my rambling, keep it up.
Hey Lon, thanks for your videos i don't know how long I#m watching you since I found you. All I wanted to say is thanks for your great work, and keep the good works on :) Greeting from germany Nico :)
Great review, can you provide comparison of Acer R11 R3-131T(with similar config as HP) with this 2in1...i am confused between the two.... my main concern is god screen (or the better screen of the two)
you can place the camera changing button near your foot for making for better videos(just suggesting)..we can see you changing camera...btw its good review
Hey Lon, if I may ask, can you please review the RCA Maven Pro 11" Android Tablet? saw it in amazon with a lot of good reviews in it, but I would like to see your own point of view in it. Great video by the way!
Great review! Would you recommend this over the HP Stream 11.6 X360 (32GB SSD, 2GB RAM, N2840 Celeron processor)? Is one or the other noticeably faster for web browsing or watching movies?
+Lon Seidman Thanks Lon! Its about a $175-$200 difference in cost and I would use it for Netflix, Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, watching digital movies, etc.. I really wouldnt have a need for multitasking or intense gaming. My concern is the HDD vs. the SDD. As you pointed out, rotating this laptop to all the different positions could have a negative impact to the HDD.
+Lon Seidman UPDATE 11/28/15: I got this laptop (11-K120NR) for $279 at Staples! I will probably use the dollars saved to swap out the HDD for a Samsung 850 EVO SDD to increase the speed!
Does this have pen support? I have an old model 11t-k100 that I've been meaning to get rid of since it kept crashing and didn't update right, but I think I would be willing to keep it if I could use a1 stylus with it. I wanted to use it as a drawing laptop but since it's old I am not sure if it has pen support and I couldn't find much info on it
Hey Lon, great review. This is somewhat off topic for this review, but should I get the Asus X205 with the Atom Bay Trail or an Acer Cloudbook/R11 convertible with the Celeron N3050? Thanks.
Nice review. I would definitely buy this if it weren't for the fact that is not fanless or spinless drive. I hate those, they are very annoying. Plus you mention that this laptop is pretty heavy. I would love to use this as everyday tablet but not when is very heavy to carry. The price tag for this laptop is pretty good though. Btw can you do a review on Asus Transformer Book 10.1 Touch Covertible Laptop. I want to hear your opinions.
Hi Patricia, all hard drives implement a set of techniques commonly referred to as the active hard-drive protection. At a bare minimum, you get an accelerometer and firmware governing it, but several popular drives on the market implement even more protection features (likely, at no extra cost for OEMs involved in the 2-in-1 and convertible market). For that reason, it doesn't matter how quickly you land the base of your 2-in-1 on a desk after adjusting its state, or how much you angle it when getting up from a sitting position: as early as in mere 50 nanoseconds, the HDD firmware will get a report on movement detection, so it can pull away the heads from the platter and seat them safely. As that happened, the file system driver in Windows has already been presented with the fact that HDD's temporarily inaccessible, so the threads that are currently reading from it will be issued with the "wait on input-output" instruction. Waking from such state also takes very little time, and together with head parking could be performed as often as needed. TL;DR: nothing to worry about, HDD's interior has gyroscopic features to it, and Windows is well aware.
Can anyone tell me if this will be a computer that can cope with casual gaming such as doing remote play on it with my Xbox one? This isnt the main reason for my purchase of it I just would like to know in advance. Thanks:)
I got a version of this laptop not the same model but a similar version I upgraded mine with the SSD Drive and it helped a lot I was able to put GTA 5 on it but it didn't run all that well unless I put it on the lowest settings
At first I didn't have a gaming PC when I got this it was able to run a few latest games but not all of them I was surprised but now I have a gaming PC that runs all of them
Like 8 or 9 FPS, LOL. What the hell do you think this silicon was made for? It's design solves three tasks: sub-200$ suitability, fanless-ness, 1080p VP9/HEVC playback with no stuttering (hopefully). It's a glorified smartphone processor, and we're talking about rendering 30 million pixles each second? All the while there's a tight event loop, strangling your CPU? Dude, you're out of your mind. N3700/N3710's "HD Graphics 405" is not even on par with a low-power issue of 7.5th Generation GT1 graphics (as seen in Intel Core-based Pentium 3558U, for example). Hell, not even the most recent tablet offering, the "monstrous", 18 EU HD Graphics 505 part, will allow you to play GTA V, or even Dota 2, or CS:GO. Or anything at all. You'll struggle with web browsing, mate. It's that bad. Sorry, but you have to get at least a Lenovo with its GeForce 920MX or Acer's 920M/940M products. Sun XT (R5 M435, R7 M440) is also not sufficient, don't fall for that one, it only looks nice on paper. By the way, with those three we're talking about "Low" preset @ 720p in your GTA V, so don't get too happy. See for yourself: www.notebookcheck.net/GTA-V-Benchmarked.140881.0.html There, at the very bottom, "Cherry Trail". Again, this is the way it should be.
