    I took the cover off, and the starter gear shaft came with it. So the shaft goes back in the gear first. Then put the cover on. Thanks, I needed that.

      Yes thank you for this I kept thinking I missed something cause I was forgetting about the fact that it's a magnet and you need to pull hard to get it to come off once it's unbolted all the way

    Just a bit confused if there is any oil in play when you replace the stator cover. I don’t see you using any oil catcher whatsoever.
    If it’s just a matter of unbolting the old one and adding a new gasket plus cover on it I am happy to try it my self.
    Hope you can reply.
    Edit: just rewatched it and saw that you drained the oil. I find it surprising that that starter is in contact with the oil. Aren’t there electrics in play? I don’t have the experience to do an oil change so I better let this do by someone with experience

      Mattijs Spierings: I show the oil pan to the left at the beginning and again when I drain the oil in the video at 2:56. Yes there is oil bathing the stator so you must have a clean gasket surface before using a new gasket as shown in the video or it will leak. Good luck with it. Thank you for the question.

      Thanks. Some people say don’t drain the oil if you put the bike in a stand. they mention loosing only a spoonful. But that maybe depends on the bike.
      Thanks for the video

    Very helpful video. Im having trouble in the very first part (hahaha). Im trying to remove the clips/bolts that hold the air duct cover but no matter what i do (rotate or press with a screwdriver) that they dont come out :(

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  5 років тому +1

      j: Yeah those clips are terrible. They can break fairly easily and even when they're brand new they don't always back out the way they should. I always try to keep a few new ones on hand before I start a project. If turning the head counterclockwise doesn't cause it to pop up, then you may need to dig the head out a little bit or push it from the backside. Good luck with the project and thanks for watching and for leaving a comment.

    Thanks for the vid! My 954 has a small scrape on the stator cover as well. Decided clean up the scuff by sanding, then applying some aerosol NH303M Honda engine paint instead of replacing the cover itself. Not because I'm cheap, but because I'm lazy! LOL!!! Did the same with my VFR1200F and you can't tell the difference.

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  4 місяці тому +1

      You're definitely not lazy if you're prepping and re-painting a stator cover to look like new. Good for you, I love it. When I made the video they were available OEM for under $50 so it was a no brainer for my time saved. I just checked and my link in the video description is under $80 and you might get them even cheaper. So for time value, I personally would likely still go OEM. Plus my bike is an absolute cherry and one just like it sold on BAT recently for ridiculous money so I am keeping everything pristine and stock. Thanks very much for sharing and take good care of that CBR, it's Honda gold my friend.

      @@ScubaMoto Yes sir! I picked mine up in April and it is in excellent condition. It was owned by a collector who passed and his family was selling his collection. Only 10,200 miles. The side cover is the only cosmetic flaw that the bike has, and it's not even noticeable unless you're looking for it. I did have some fueling issues after I picked it up though. The dreaded fuel pressure regulator failure reared its ugly head. I'm guessing it was due to the bike sitting for so long. Had to re-sync the throttle bodies as well. Added exhaust (kept the stock can for resale value), and a PC-V and she's running like a scalded dog. I hear what you're saying about the price of these bikes going up. I feel like they're beginning to move up to RC-51 level pricing for quality bikes. It's hard to find 954's that haven't been stunted, tracked, or crashed these days.

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, that's the trick with these CBR liter bikes, especially the 954's and 929's; they've been stunted to death because they weigh nothing. Congrats on the amazing find and getting her back in tip top. Keep the rubber side down and enjoy.

    Nice video.
    Can you tell me did you skip the part when liquid sealent is put to the wireing in the place that is going out of the cover?
    And do you have to put some locktite on the threads when putting back stator in to casing?
    Thanks

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  2 роки тому +2

      As long as the harness seal isn't brittle, I prefer clean surfaces. Neither were used in the factory but if that rubber seal starts getting hard then I might put some Ultra Black in there. Thread lock is a personal choice but not mine.

    is it better to put gasket in dry and not put a very thin layer of heat resistant grey silicone on both sides?

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  6 років тому

      Hey maurice0616: if everything is OEM, the gasket should be torqued on with very well cleaned and dry surfaces. Perhaps your very thin coat won't cause weep. There are plenty of opinions. Mine does not leak and I like that. The OEM Gaskets are good quality and usually separate pretty well. That grease sounds good for rubber o-ring applications. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

    can this be done without draining the oil?

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  Рік тому

      Kind of. Oil will come out so it's a messier job if you don't drain the oil first and you are most of the way there. So I figured it made sense to change oil and filter while I'm in there.

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  4 роки тому +3

      Jeff Reddy: The Process in the video and the gasket are the same but the Stator Cover is different. The part number for the 929 cover is 11321-MCJ-305. The 954 is 11321-MCJ-306. Thanks for watching and for sharing.

      @@ScubaMoto I'm really only interested in the fairings instruction. I couldn't find a single video on how to remove the 929 fairings. I just bought a 929 in November that only has 7k miles on it, but when I take it out in the spring, I plan to change coolant & oil, lube the cables, etc.... I also plan to clean up everything underneath the fairings.

    • @ScubaMoto
      @ScubaMoto  4 роки тому +1

      Jeff Reddy: Congrats on the excellent barn find! The fairings are definitely different but the process is similar. You still need to lift the tank to clear the tabs on the intake cowls. With a bike that young, the clips should all survive if removed right but I might pick up a few spare plastic clips before starting the job just in case. Enjoy the new bike and the spring maintenance.
