      It's not the isolated oasis that BBC would like you to believe. There are 16 more lakes in the surrounding dunes. Also many cities less than 20km away. Coordinates 26 8191942 lat 13 5145905 lon.

    I lived in the Sahara for a while and it was all like this; everything was beautiful, but designed to inflict misery and death. During the day the heat was unbearable; then, at night it got frigid. During the hot season I once got a temperature reading of 140F. After the hot season came dust storms that could make the daytime look like nighttime. Next came the rains which brought dangerous flooding and clouds of insects. Bugs, however, were actually less of a problem than thorns, which came in every size and seemed to be produced by every single plant. The sand came in these amazing colors that formed gorgeous dunes; unfortunately, it got into everything and made both walking and driving difficult or impossible. As far as water was concerned, there was never enough, getting it usually involved a great deal of work, as did making it safe to drink, a process which typically took days.
    Honestly, I always thought the people who lived in and around the Sahara, with the exception of those along the Atlantic coast, would be better off simply relocating.
    If you are ever thinking about going to visit a desert, don't underestimate it because that was the thing that got most people killed.

    The more I think about it the more I realize what a wonderful example of adaptation this is. No doubt swallows have been crossing the Sahara every year for tens or hundreds of thousands of years, ever since the ancient period(s) when it was much wetter. These birds were able to adapt to the slow drying trend, even when it got down to the minute quantity contained in the local flies! But I'm sure the number of swallows able to successfully migrate is far, far less than in the remote past... And surely many other migratory bird species became extinct due to Sahara desertification.

    • @RuminatingWizard
      @RuminatingWizard 5 років тому

      I love how pulling giant assumptions out of thin air is called science. Evolution is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated. The Sahara is 4000 years old.

    • @camdenfreilinger9695
      @camdenfreilinger9695 5 років тому +1

      @@RuminatingWizard May I ask you a question? Why do you look the way you do? I mean this not in an insulting way, but you look the way you do due to being the offspring of your mother and father, correct? So clearly, you have become who you are as a result of the shared traits of your parents. And following this logic, they got their traits from their parents correct? Well, is it outlandish to say the same could be said about animals? Animals are after all born from 2 parents from which they have recieved traits from. Now lets imagine ther are 3 frogs who live in a tree. One is green, another blue, and the last is pink. Now imagine you're tring to look for them in this tree. Which would you most likely find first? Odds are, you'd find the pink or blue one because they stand out whereas the green frog is harder to find among the green foliage. Now imagine you're a hungry bird and just found 2 frogs to snack on. They die and leave the last frog who's still hiding. Life goes on and he comes across another frog and breeds with her, have little frog babies, and his traits are passed onto his kids, who are also now green. Now, there are more green frogs than blue and pink ones right? Because the other two frogs didn't have a chance to mate and pass down their pretty colors before they were eaten. This is evolution. It's not animals magically becoming new animals. It's that the animals that reproduce the most have the most offspring and have their traits passed down the most. This is evolution. I hope this makes sense.

    Can't decide who's the better narrator.. David Attenborough or Morgan Freeman
