FenoTheFox not gonna lie I felt a little bitter for the first minute of this video because of that lol
Same feeling
IS THAT A MOTHERFUCKING JOJO REFERENCE
@@mellamojeff458 Next you're going to say "Kong, T-rex, Godzilla.'
FenoTheFox ikr me too
ONION MAN ?! ONION MAN????
OOOOOOOOOH :(
it's "Onion bro"
That part about the seal sounds for the Stranger Things monster really reminds me of how they mixed the sound of an alligator to the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch for Smaug in the hobbit. I love the brilliance of some sound directors of playing with some pretty natural sounds to create some unknown, mysterious, creepy or simply epic sound. The right sound has such a great impact on the atmosphere!
1:10 NO! IMPOSSIBLE!! bullSHIIIIIIT!!! I *KNOW* WHAT GODZILLA AND JURASSIC PARK'S T-REX SOUNDS LIKE AND THERE IS NO *WAY* YOU CAN TELL ME OTHE-
1:25 Oh..... I knew that
ONION BRO!
i prefer onion man. onion bro is annoying. Onion man is more humble, like onion man himself.
Great show as always.
The REAPER Blog and you here ?
The blip blip blops in Gwyns fight are the most emotional blip blip blops I’ve ever heard.
GIVES ME CONNIPTIONS
HE ACTUALLY DIDN'T LET HIM SAY IT!!!!
makes me mad.
*Hrmmmmm...*
him skipping it gave me conniptions
God, the souls music gives me goosebumps everytime. I’ll listen to it in the car and such
You should do the same type of video about Bloodborne. Some of the same things from Dark Souls can apply, but at the same time there is a lot of uniqueness about the monster audio, especially for beast bosses.
I'd love to see BLOODBORNE next. (And include another small demo showing how to do some audio effects just like in this one!!)
(6:02) Including explicitly how you applied the EQ and the verb plugins to his voice was my favorite part. The demonstration was presented well and how Ableton overlayed on top of the video was very clean visually.
Thank you so much for the amazing video!!!
Not to mention the music during boss battles is also an audio cue in order to time the bosses attacks
I thought the first 10 seconds represented the sound of Dark Souls pretty well
This is my favorite UA-cam channel by far.
underlordd sammmmeee
Instant sub. There aren't many game music analysis channels, and I'm always happy to find one.
Please do a part 2! This was incredible.
As a huge fan of the nier series, I'd suggest making an episode of either the original nier or nier automata. But I did find nier automata better in sound design.
But in music
automata killed it in sound design but imo the OG Nier and Drakengard 1 has the best music in the entire franchise
@@enshrowd Interestingly enough, Automata had awards out the wazoo for the soundtrack!
Just started binging your channel after being redirected from Mark Brown.
As I started watching your videos i kept talking to myself referencing the souls games up until now. Fun to see a video of it!
I always liked the emphasis on the 'sigh' in these games or subtle wind, or ash associations in the sound.
That and the majestic maniacal cackles ofcourse.
"Onion man" bro you really had me for a second with that. I had finally noticed the attention to which the footstep sounds of the enemies enable safe PvE and wanted to see if someone was talking about it on the subreddit. I found a link to your vid posted there. Incredible to see a video about sound design that uses good and well-timed illustrative flourishes like that. Seriously!
Great content! So happy to have found your channel
Yes boy! Fantastic channel and videos, right up my alley. Appreciate your work.
I've found your channel and it is a instant subscribe. Amazing content and a different perspective of one of my favorite games. Cheers and keep doing this amazing work!
The fact that you thought you could fool me with that listening challenge for a single SECOND is a clear display of your HUBRIS. I know those sounds by heart. King Kong is the most generic but Rex and Godzilla have an iconic shriek layered on top that follows a distinct pitch. Rex's is like a chainsaw, Godzilla's is like a huge metallic gate screeching as it slides open with a lot of reverberation and not too much treble.
Not even a JP or Godzilla fan I just know those sounds by heart.
In case it isn't clear the bit about your "hubris" was a joke, love you. (In a purely platonic way!)
Found your channel last night and watched every single video of yours. Excellent work man! Very grabbing and informative :)
P.s. I got the listening challenge right and was like 'wtf' when you initially said I was wrong!
Superb video and great perspective on the Dark Souls sound design. Thank you.
Hey! Thanks for the Video! It is so good in describing the sound design of Dark Souls! Although I am new for game sound design, it is helpful for me to go forward on the designing direction! Hope to see the next video!
I get so much out of your videos. Thanks a ton!
I love these videos. I too have always loved the sound design of dark souls. So beautiful, so immersive.
Great stuff! Definitely going to recommend your channel to my audio students
Godzilla and the T-Rex are the last from generic. You could've used the Cloverfield monster and the spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3. That would have farther proven your point
Yea, it was a very very poorly put together point. Even if you didn't know King Kongs generic Roar you would have easily put 2 and 2 and realize its not Godzilla or the T-Rex. He choice the 2 most iconic movie monster roars to talk about generic sound design.
That channel is just fucking awesome, and you clearly disserves a better exposition. Thank you Sir :)
Where the hell is the RHEEEEEEEEE! from the Cleric Beast
Just a fun fact, I belive the Witcher 3 uses the same audio for one of their flying mosters. Seems like its a stock sound, to bad!
Ayyy got the 'animal' sounds right. I love these challenges and the tricks you put into your videos. Getting fooled a bit seems kinda right : )
I didn't guess at the beginning J-Park's T-Rex and Godzilla are so distinctive in my ears that Kong was easily seperable from the other two... then you have wrong answers and I was like "BULLSHIT!" then you corrected it... I agree with the rest of the video though.
Subbed.
Onion man also seems to have either downsampling or a light touch of hard clip distortion, real nice touch.
I really like when Soulsborne music changes depending on the stage of the fight.
My favorite is in Bloodborne, when you fight Gascoigne in his in human form, the music is creepy with violins and such, but when he transforms to a beast, the music is pure screams.
I guessed the three right at first, then you made me second guess
This is brilliant. I'd love to see you do Alien Isolation, absolutely loved the sound design in that game, especially the station and offscreen alien effects, with the scuttling and scraping sounds coming from somewhere close in the vents but not quite clearly enough to figure out where abouts exactly, really freaked me out.
really awesome stuff!
Great video, very well explained
Great! Keep it up!
nice stuff dude. you need more views
3:42 Just a seal? Elephant seal is pretty terrifying seal if you ask me.
Want a cool and absolutely terrifying monster scream? John Carpenter's The Thing.
Nice video, but I'm gonna call bs on Godzilla's and the T-rex's roar sounding generic. They are so distinctive to my ears and I haven't seen either of the movies in 10+ years.
Yeah honestly, that was kinda bullshit. The dude's supposed to be urging us to listen to sounds carefully and here he is saying that the T-Rex is "generic." Wtf.
(Still a good video though)
There was a point in time where I couldn't imagine both of the creature's sounds in my head lol. Even though now I can easily distinguish between the two sounds, I understood what Marshal meant.
Tbh I got all wrong because I just know small scenes of the films. So yes they are quite similar.
obv I'm biased here cuz I'm familiar with all three sounds but like, you can definitely tell Rex and Godzilla sounds aren't trying to be mammals. And godzilla's in particular is very "science fiction" sounding, whereas the T-Rex sounds more like an actual animal. They definitely have characteristics and I wouldn't describe them as generic. There are shit loads of monsters out there with like, tiger roars and shit
they all sounded exactly the same
Haha I got the King Kong Godzilla and trek right after I thought it was wrong you tricker
amazing video
Loving your content, I am interested if you could do a video on the Monster Hunter games, I don't know if there is much material or anything worthwhile to work with but just putting it out as an idea (i am purely putting the idea here as you mention Monsters and Bosses the 2 words to describe the MH series)
lol, At first I thought. "Aww darn, got the answers wrong." But then you proved me right. :P Don't think I could ever forgot the T-rex, sounds very distinct to me with that underlying screech.
I will learn to appreciate ds1 compressed armor clanking
The "Onion Man" voice sounds to me like if they used the same EQ you used + a subtle bitcrusher
PS: This is the channel we don't deserve, but we need. THANKS.
Prism stone sounds 😩 actually all the item sounds in general are fantastic
LOVE THIS CHANNEL GLAD I DISCOVERED IT VERY UNDERRATED BUT GOD DAMN STOP BAMBOOZLING US WITH YOUR NEFARIOUS QUIZZES
I keep coming back to this just because of the king kong/ t-rex/godzilla thing
you really tried to say the most iconic musical creature roars (more just T-rex and godzilla) ain't distinct from one another? You forreal? You serious?
Mr McGee, I have been thinking about this for *six years*. Six. Years. man.
I wouldn't call Godzilla generic, quite the opposite. It has a very distinct quality to it, like a metallic feeling. It's one of the things that I always associate with him is his roar.
You do sound designs on all my favorite games bro
Bloodborne’s Orphan of Kos’ voice is just terrifying, you can hear his anger just by hearing his voice.
I know you just put out a video on the Halo beam rifle, but seeing a wave form on the halo series itself would be great!
I got the right sounds and was like, oh nooh, when I was told otherwise
Tells me I got the sounds wrong and then tells me I got them right and I felt so betrayed
good video bro
How can you even possibly do not recognise godzilla scream? It is very distinct with its high pitch almost wining formants. Bad example!
Yeah I think a lot of us really saw through that Kong/TRex/Godzilla question. Kong had a generic roar, but Godilla and the JP T-rex have really iconic sounds.
Grt job 👍
I was so sure that I was right on the sounds and when you showed the answers I got really disappointed, but then you showed the real answers and my guesses were right!
That's a manatee
I feel sou proud that I got the listening challenge right
you should do an episode on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series man! Shadow of Chernobyl has some amazing sound design.
1:27 I managed to tell all three of them apart, I feel pretty based.
"Nice, I guessed all 3 movie monsters corectl-.... Oh. Y-You too."
no one ever got Godzilla voice wrong, NO ONE
bro i miss your videos
I'd also recommend to have a look at the sound design of the original metroid prime.
It's also superb.
#FULLSAIL! #LETSGETIT!!
onion man or onion bros voice also has some kind of bitcrush on his voice. its subtle, but it makes a difference, not sure why its there though
Great video! I actually stopped and went back to listen to the monster samples because I thought you got them wrong before you admitted you lied to us! Then I realized I jumped the gun.
sometimes i forget pewdiepie played dark souls
*sadly
I got all the answers right and when you said I got them wrong I did the Dr Phil's BULLSHIT XD
The music in dark souls and bloodborne is my absolute favorite. Iisten to it all the time actually hahah!... Best one in my book is The blood starved beast in Bloodborne... a song with ferocity and rage, I love it.
i actually thought you made a mistake when you said godzilla t-rex nd king kong this is how mutch these sounds have imprinted on my mind
The sounds of fromsoft games are so iconic
You got it wrong. Siegmeyer is Onion Bro just like how we call Solaire "Sun bro"
sad its not more viewed
I'd love to see the evolution of a series of games' sound design - like Half-Life vs. Half-Life 2, or Diablo vs. D2 vs. D3, or Just Cause vs. JC2 vs. JC3. Especially if a game has the same sound design team behind it.
You should do one on monster hunter. Like how Astalos is modelled after Insects and cuz of that his roar is really high pitched and shrieking
Perhaps this may have been suggested to you before, but you should make a video on Drakengard/Nier series sounds (I recommend looking up Clemps summary of the story)
what program are you using for this?
Couldn't find you on twitter dude
Bloodborne has an incredible sound design.
I got 2 ads about sound design on this vid lmao.
I was right!! KingKong, T-Rex, Godzilla!
gimme an Elite: Dangerous wave form!
Cough it's Onion Knight*..!
I guessed the sounds right. Then u said i was wrong so i thought “o shit nvm” then u said i was actually right. Dam i just got baited
When you were doing that bit at 1:10 I instantly knew you were wrong because I know damn well what Godzilla's roar sounds like
You should do a video on the sound design and soundtrack of Minecraft!
I think this is a cool topic to cover and you do a pretty good job. My 2 cents is that more examples would be helpful. Talking about layering animal sounds for monsters was really interesting and then you barely talked about it in the context of Dark Souls, and more examples of how technical effects are done would be sweet.
BROOOOO... I was like meh I didn't get it right and then You showed the (real) answers an I was like "YOOOOOO"
In the clip Siegmeyer's voice also sounds a little bit crushed to me?
I for gozilla right at least 😅 there's something about his tonality
