    For 9mm, in my opinion, there is a still a place for ported barrels due to the price and availability difference between 9mm supers and subs. And guns that have enough space between the hand guard and the barrel don't have as big of a heat issue either, while also providing superior sound reduction. A good example of this would be the B&T APC9 SD. Yes, they still get dirty, but then you can't have everything in life:)

      The idea though of dropping velocity on a lighter bullet negates the advantages of the heavier weight, already subsonic, bullet. Energy counts, especially in a pistol cartridge

    How much would R&D improve if silencers were removed from NFA and treated like either normal firearms, or just as a piece of metal tubing? Would we be 100 years further along?

    • @jaydub308

      @@Landoftheignorant hard to speculate for sure. I think a lot of gun owners can afford and like silencers however, they don't want to go through the process and play the crazy tax. Especially for something that you should be able to have being a legal gun owner. So not having to pay an extra 200 bucks for literally nothing and having to wait months for it. That would be a massive help to manufacturers and customers alike.

      Amen. What’s the pint of having a gun that won’t go through a canvas jacket. I think there are too many people watching people flex small guns and not watching ballistic videos and actually shooting subs with cans and realizing what the holdover is with subs + can at 15 yards. Never mind the velocity and impact on target.

  • @ThermalRanch

    We’ve had a few integrally suppressed rifles at the range over the last year. The noise reduction wasn’t any more impressive from these than our regular muzzle mounted suppressors.
    And we didn’t see any of the internally suppressed rifles that could put up a decent shot group when compared to our Fixes with Trash Pandas or Thunder Chickens.
    The integrally suppressed rifles were cool and fun on the range, but we wouldn’t want one in the field.

      I mean for a M45/S&W 76/Stemple/M3 almost all of the cans were integral because the barrel nut was the mount and could swap to a standard barrel and barrel nut in a few seconds.
      If they weren’t, you have to either deal with a suppressed 9mm subgun that’d be as long as a battle rifle, or have a 2” threaded barrel.

Current suppressors negatively impact them not being short after you install one on the end of a rifle. Sorry...I thought is was obvious...my bad man. • @z987k
      @z987k Місяць тому

      @@sickjohnson So I looked at integrals for awhile, and I found that they also have minimum barrel lengths, at least in rifle cartridges. Turns out that after you factor that, you end up with the same length gun as with a screw on. The only advantage I can see is having a SBR length barrel with an integral gets you out of 1 stamp. But the cost of an integral barrel for center-fire rifle is a lot more than a stamp.
      Even if you take something like 300blk and say an 8in barrel, the integral still goes past the end of the "barrel" and ends up within an inch of a screw on.

    I still enjoy the story from maybe Bill Blowers? Chuck Haggard? I dunno one of those LEO SWAT cats about the time they worked with an agency that was running subsonic 9mm in MP-5SDs during a big time daylight raid and a large Italian man wearing a classic thick 90's leather jacket squirted out the back shooting with a pistol towards the front entry team, These guys running subs in their SD's were both mag dumping on him from about 50 feet from a nearby rooftop and he as casually as possible during a gun fight, started wiping his jacket like he was getting swarmed by a bee's nest 🤣 Dude was still up and moving after taking like 40+ rounds of extremely slow 9mm in a couple seconds that probably didn't make it past a single rib. 🤦‍♂️ I don't remember what the final fate of bee man was, but that agency caught some "constructive criticism" from the actual knowledgeable guys of the entry teams, especially the group he was mainly shooting at in broad daylight... Same SWAT guy/well traveled instructor said he has seen multiple different agencies from local to federal running 9mm subs in ported barrel MP5SDs designed to run +P-ish pressure 9mm, because they had no concept of it's design vs other regular attached suppressor weapons 🤦‍♂️ Not relevant, but anytime I think integral suppressed I picture this event 😆

We can argue specifics regarding ported barrels and internal ballistic energy all day, but that's not helping either side of the argument given the topic at hand.
