I made a blue lap quilt for my then 83 year old aunt who got married! She and her new man were so excited. She said it would keep them warm while they watched tv. It was really pretty.
I typically "feel" and look at it with a ceiling light behind it...If I can see holes clearly through it then I leave it. If the weave seems strong and close together and the "feel" seems normal to quilting cotton then it is a go for me✅
I made my Nanny a blue and ivory quilt almost 20 years ago that she used everyday in her recliner that was also her bed. She loved it so much it was buried with her.
When my daughter went to college I make quilts shams n embroideries their names on all towels sheets everything for her n her roommate. They never lost anything. Everyone was amazed at how beautiful their room was n how coordinated. I was pleased n the other mother was pleased too
It's a lovely quilt , I hope you do manage to catch your daughter's reaction. Yes I have made a blue quilt , it was blue and white , like a carpenters star as a gift for my husband's Aunty as a thank you for buying me a new sewing machine .
I don’t usually like the color Blue, BUT….. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS QUILT! It’s SO gorgeous! I love the way you have made the pillowcases to go with it also! You did a really fantastic job on this Quilt! 🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️
I had never thought of making a blue quilt either until I got that text from my daughter🤷🏻♀️ Thank you so much for the kind feedback ....I appreciate it so much💙
As per above, maybe the reason you like *this* blue is because it's a different shade of blue, it "Nautical Blue." When I found it at Hobby Lobby I purchased every fat quarter pack they had (then spent a day driving to all the Hobby Lobby's in my area to buy what they had). Evidently it's popular still, they're still producing it--and, everytime I head to the big city I stop and buy what they have in stock! I love this batch!
I believe I have watched every sewing channel on u tube. And yours is my favorite. You are the only one I’ve found that was ok with pressing seams open. My mom quilted all her life and always pressed open. We have quilted 75 years old and never a problem. Thanks for being so old world with your ideas
💙💙💙 She comes home late tonight. She has no idea that I'm making....can't wait to give it to her💙 So exciting to give her something she will have forever and be able to hand down to her kids💙
Tracy, if you cut off the corner of the fold over backing with minky...you will get a perfect miter on a square corner with self binding. Let me explain. You know how you snip the corner tip to reduce bulk when you are turning something. (you have the 90 degree corner, and you trim the corner straight across without cutting into your stitches). If you cut the self binding minky that way, the two sides (right and left) when folded to the front will make a perfect 45 degree miter at the corner. You will want to cut the distance of your binding away from the point of the corner. In other words, if you are folding over a 1/4 inch to the front, cut 1/4 away from the POINT. You can test this with scraps, or even paper to understand the method. While I understand rounding corners, I prefer square because they launder better than round and this is how I get miters with wrap binding. The quilt is beautiful, your daughter will love it! Great job.
Thank you so much for reminding me of that technique💙I've used it before...it's a good one.. ❣ I can't wait to give this blue quilt to my daughter...so much fun making and giving quilts away 💙
I learned over last weekend that backstitching was necessary for me. the very ends where I didn't started coming unstitched. I finished two quilt tops this weekend using backstitch at beginning and end of my strips and squares and oh the difference it made!
I made a blue quilt and used fabric that had been gifted to me. Everything was prewashed and went together nicely. When I put the binding on, my fingers turned blue. Turns out that one of those "gifts" was crap. I ended up washing the quilt nine (yes, 9) times before it stopped bleeding. This was before color catchers. Instead of a gift, it became a picknick blanket that now lives in the camping trailer.
I haven’t made a blue quilt yet. But my friend surprised me by making me a blue quilt using blue jeans that belonged to my Mom before she passed away and some of my old jeans. She added a gorgeous dark blue print to it. I love it. It is a treasured memory quilt for me. Your daughter will love her quilt, I am sure.
I found a queen size plush blanket to use on a twin quilt. No piecing, and I will bind with cotton. I will pay the binding before trimming the quilt to limit handling it after it's cut. Have never used anything like this before so it will be an adventure!
Yes, made two blue, white, and some tan quilts. One of which I had to tell myself over and over that it was her wedding quilt and I could NOT keep it for myself! I’ve bought some of that same fabric to recreate that wedding quilt for ME! Haven’t done it yet.😮
One of my first quilts was a blue and white flying geese pattern . It is still one of my favourites. Blue is always a good choice .It will look beautiful.
What a great video. I learn so much from your tutorials. The camera angles and closeness are very helpful. You deserved a carafe of coffee from me! I hope you are able to film the reveal with your daughter. Thank you again.
I love your videos. I also made a blue themed autism quilt 85 x 85 for my autistic son. He loves anything blue, and he loves the quilt so much that I may have to make another one for him to have as a backup.
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire video and got many tips for completing a project such as this!!! Your daughter will know that you are the best mother ever!
So many helpful tips in your instructions. Thank you so much. I am a confident beginner but watching you I will be intermediate in no time. Continue with your videos (no matter how long they are) because you are actually teaching us how to quilt.
You have no idea how your comment blessed me💙 When I read "you are actually teaching us how to quilt"....My heart just burst with joy❣️ Thank you so much...I appreciate all of your support🥰
My son’s friend, Clay, was graduating High School. I asked his mom what colors he would like in his quilt. She said, “Just blue”. I chose the pattern, “Turning Twenty” which uses 20 fat quarters. I shopped from my stash, first, then I bought the rest at various fabric stores and quilt shops. When I went to give Clay his quilt, my husband went with me. He hadn’t seen the quilt. When Clay pulled the quilt out of the matching pillow case I made him, my husband immediately said, “I want a quilt just like that one!!” Clay loved his quilt in his favorite color. The following Christmas I gave my husband a quilt just like Clays.
fantastic blue and white are so crisp and clean looking. my favorite thing. my friend does a version of a pink and white, all pinks, but very picky about which pinks. and it was so lovely, she used a pale dove gray, and all sorts of pinks. not electric pinks, sort of ashy dubdued pinks. it was sooooo yummy.
I had a great time watching this video, I wondered how you really felt about the $30. $ general fabric after all the time to piece and redo the top. Sometimes the savings doesn't compute with the extra time. Your daughter, like mine, know you would move heaven and earth to make a piece of love especially for her. I had a cup of coffee while watching, so here's to you, my thanks.
Well I really do love the plush fabric from the dollar general.🤩 It would have been only one seam had I measured it out properly. It would have fit if I turned them and then sewn them. But I had sewn and cut the other way before I had realized 🤷🏻♀️
I really love blue quilts. My sister, my mom and I got together and we made lap quilts for each other. I picked blue. We each picked 2 fabrics and cut the squares and assembled them together. My sister is a longarm quilter so we lucked out there. My mom picked pink and my sister liked brights. It was so much fun and a great memory for us too
I've made 2 quilts where every piece of fabric had to have blue in it somewhere. It was tons of fun going through my stash looking for scraps that had at least a touch of blue. Some of the scraps had to be fussy cut and it was so satisfying cutting the scrap to reveal the blue "gem" in the fabric. And it really made picking fabrics for my scrappy quilts so much easier.
I’m a little late to the party, but I love your blue and white quilt for your daughter! And yes, I made a blue and cream quilt that I designed especially for my oldest son. I used EQ8 to design the pieces comprising each block, which I then combined with sashings and HST borders to make one big 40-inch block. It was so much fun! I always enjoy your videos! I’d love to see one that focuses more time on FMQ using your Juki and side table.
Yep, made a king size blue and white quilt for my husband. Lots of different prints, 6 or 8 different log cabin blocks and end design created a huge star in middle! He loves it!
I love your longer videos. Your daughter is going to flip when she sees this gorgeous bedspread. She is going to be so proud to take that back to college. Her friends are going to be green with envy. It’s a beautiful one-of-a-kind. Love the little pillows too great touch. Thanks for sharing and putting all your time and effort into your videos.😊 we all love them.
I have not made a blue quilt yet; but, I have been buying yardage in the shades of blue I plan to use when I find them.. I may have enough now; but, I am making other projects at this time.
Good Morning! It’s finally Friday and being on the West Coast, I saw your notification before I got out of bed. I just finished watching the entire video. It’s 7:30, and my 1 hour radio alarm just stopped playing, as I am typing this comment. It was great to watch without any distractions. 😉 I intend to go back and look at how you pieced the background minke. So, I am assuming that your daughter already received this quilt before you posted this video. 🥰 otherwise, it would spoil the surprise. What a great gift for her.
Oh No! I just saw the posts with your sister. How can you be sure she doesn’t click on a UA-cam notification for this video? I am definitely sure she is a subscriber and has notifications turned on! 😳
Well she is flying in late tonight...and she doesn't really watch quilting videos....but she has been known to watch my quilting vids when she starts getting home sick LOL...🤣 I will have to let everyone know how it goes down...💙 (thank you for watching and always supporting my videos RDMHD❣️
Thank you for a great video! Your daughter will love the quilt and pillows. I love the blue and white fabric. I love making my children and grandchildren seasonal pillowcases. I know my sons and daughter and granddaughter would love the minky soft material. Thank you for the idea. I know what to make them for Christmas. Please share a video of your daughter's reaction.
I did not think I was a fabric snob until you mentioned dollar tree & dollar general, shame on me! That check is adorable. I’m also going to start looking at blankets for my backing. So much great information on this one! Thank you 😊
I love blue and white anything. This is a beautiful set, your daughter will love it. Thanks for the tip on washing the Flannel prior to using on the design wall. I had just got back from the store with my flannel for my design wall and was thinking about not washing it, saw you had a new video and was surprised you mentioned washing it before using it. Perfect timing. I got my sprayer also!
I love this quilt. Plan to make this my next project. Please continue your tutorials. They are the best. Being a novice quilter, I need all the help I can get. Many thanks.
Your daughter is going to just be beyond herself when she receives this set. They are soooo amazing Miss Tracy. The rounded corners!!! I have to try that. It really gives the quilt a much more soothing look. The fabric is to die for too. Everything about this tutorial was so helpful and inspirational. I truly truly mean that. Now my brain is in overdrive. Thank goodness it’s Friday. 😝 Have a terrific weekend, oh and if you see I’m watching this tutorial over and over, it’s only cause I’m trying to follow the steps. 😂 didn’t want you to think I was stalking you. Bwahaha 🤗🤗
LOL Debbie 🤣 I can't see how many times you watch a video...how funny🤣 You can watch as many times as you need to❤️ Thank you for all of your support...I appreciate it so much💙
Tracy I haven't really made anything larger than a baby quilt but I have made several other baby items and find myself making the curved Edge on everything because it's just so much easier . Whether it's washcloths that I searge, hooded towels with rubber ducky fabric that I use to make the bias tape and line the hood. Of course the burp cloths that I make are rounded also. Thank you so much for all that I am learning maybe at 71 years old I will start making big girls quilts. I love blue. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job teaching.❤❤❤
A blue rail fence was my very first quilt. I hand quilted it also. My very first time to do that also. I use it on my bed all the time. That was about 15 or more years ago.
I'm watching your video, the quilt is beautiful. When you put the monkey blankets up, I said you could turn them sideways and have 70 across and 100 down. But I knew that was not wide enough. I knew you could cut off 2 inches on each side of your top and it would fit. But I didn't think you would want to lose the extra fabric. Something you could keep in mind for your next project is to make those 10 inch blocks and it would fit fine. Good luck, I cant wait to see the finished quilt. This is my first time to watch your channel I think. I'm subscribing .
I absolutely love what you made 'today' for your daughter the blues are perfect as are the pillow and cushions. I hope I don't miss the video of your presentation to her, such a special gift. Love your channel and thoroughly enjoy watching it here in Australia.
I've made 3 blue quilts - one was a king that was reversible and different blues on both sides. Everyone likes the "back" better than the top, including me. One was supposed to be a King, but it's really little too small so I use it on a queen bed. It's blue and white. I love it. Another one is a queen with just a tiny bit of off white in a few of the blocks. There is some dark green with blue and other colors of blue. It was supposed to be a gift, but I've still got it. Not sure if I'll give it away or not. I've never used it. That quilt you made is BEAUTIFUL. I just love a blue and white quilt.
ive been thinking about this set since you posted the first time and i keep coming back....i have a rule that i cant start anything until ive finished the last project so this is going to be started next year, probably buying the fabrics for my birthday, but i have to do this
Beautiful!!! What a Super Mom you are! Yes, I've made several blue quilts plus one in progress that is my hexie travel hand project. It's been 4 years in the making and may take another 4 years to finish.😆
I always back stitch every thing too…. I can’t stand when any of my seams come apart even just a little 😂. I’ve made two all blue quilts ….. yours is beautiful ❤

Thank you 💙 If I can get her to let me post then I totally will....she's a bit shy LOL🤣 (unlike her mother...who's waaaaay out there LOL)
The color is beautiful. I personally pin everything, I back stitch as well, but I always iron my seams open. Always.

a beautiful quilt love the colors and the cushions ,what a lovely gift for your daughter
Love the blue. And so “easy”. I hope your daughter loved it. There is nothing like receiving a handmade quilt.
I have collected enough blue fabric for a scrap quilt, that I am going make! So, not yet, and coming to my sewing machine in the future!!
When my daughter went to college I make quilts shams n embroideries their names on all towels sheets everything for her n her roommate. They never lost anything. Everyone was amazed at how beautiful their room was n how coordinated. I was pleased n the other mother was pleased too

Oh, love your hotel pillow hack. Thank you for allowing us to go on your journey of making your Daughters Stunning blue quilt.
That is a beautiful quilt you are making. So sweet of you making it for your daughter and she doesn’t know about it. Thank You 🥰
Yes, I made a blue quilt and I loved it. I accidentally left it in Washington when I moved. So I will have to make another one.
I made a blue quilt and used fabric that had been gifted to me. Everything was prewashed and went together nicely. When I put the binding on, my fingers turned blue. I had just got back from the store with my flannel for my design wall and was thinking about not washing it, saw you had a new video and was surprised you mentioned washing it before using it. Perfect timing. I got my sprayer also!
I finally washed and dried with no bounce or softner and now it finally sticks🎉
Just found your channel. Loved the blue quilt. Lucky girl!
Wow that is beautiful thank you so much Tracy for this video. I bet it would also be beautiful in Red. God bless from Texas!
💙
I love this quilt. Plan to make this my next project. Please continue your tutorials. They are the best. Being a novice quilter, I need all the help I can get. Many thanks.
Absolutely....I will keep making videos as long as you all watch them❣️
Your daughter is going to just be beyond herself when she receives this set.

So pretty.
💙Thank you Carol
A blue rail fence was my very first quilt. I hand quilted it also. My very first time to do that also. I use it on my bed all the time. That was about 15 or more years ago.
I use my plates to round corner, they are 3 different sizes so I just pick the one that fits my projects
I love this video!!! It's gold!!!
⚜️🤩⚱️🏆 Thank you for all the good vibes my way Di❣️💙❣️💙
Blue is my color All my quilts have blue somewhere. You need a pillow cover.
Blue does make a pretty quilt for sure💙
I love blue, it reminds me of Delft from Holland. This is beautiful!!
I never realized how pretty an all blue quilt would be...I LOVE IT💙
I'm watching your video, the quilt is beautiful.
That quilt is just beautiful! I love blue and white quilts.
Thank you💙 The blues just looked so fresh on this💙
It was very pretty for a young lady.
I absolutely love what you made 'today' for your daughter the blues are perfect as are the pillow and cushions. I hope I don't miss the video of your presentation to her, such a special gift. Love your channel and thoroughly enjoy watching it here in Australia.
I loved the whole show it was great can't wait for your daughters reaction
Thank you so much Diane💙
My first queen size quilt was blue and white, pictured on the cover of a popular quilting magazine in the late 1990s. It is still on my bed.
Your quilt sounds amazing💙
Made a purple quilt once😊
