tbh I would much prefer a game I didn't play dozen of times already especially since the og versions are just good as is. Give me Bahamut Lagoon or something in this range instead. Live A Live was a god send.

The direction of FF7R basically, just not exactly the same degree of expansion. So the experience of such a huge classic doesn't feel too much like another replay. To me the elite of old games, played and replayed multiple times, are the ones most deserving of an expansive design in a remake. Basically being remade if it was originally designed for this current age, in terms of content scale since it's easily for some modern indie games to outdo SNES games in content. The memory space limitations of a SNES cartridge were surpassed since a long time.

Because one thing is making a modern game with that type of protag... but another thing is remaking a snes game with that type of protag, as you have to follow that snes game story, that wasn't made with 3d cutscenes in mind.
There are some things about the FF6 masterpiece that I would change. Like the stat growth mechanic. I hated the feeling of not being able to level up until I got the right magicite to maximize growth. I also wanted a better ending for Shadow. Just wanted a way to give him peace so he can live with his daughter.
@@richardnguyen1520 Maybe the magicite, as it's leveled, could store specific stat bonuses that could be applied to whoever carries it. That would be neat (if someone wants to mod it).

FF6 is my favorite game of all time, but when you referenced Lufia, it hadn't even occurred to me. That would be a stellar selection to bring back into the spotlight!
Not only should there not be cut content, there should be ADDED content. My favorite version of Final Fantasy 1 is the PSP version, because of the additional dungeons that contained loot that couldn't be found anywhere else (HP Apples to permanently add HP, Elven Cloak armor that had amazing evasion). The main way to manipulate Stats in FFVI was tracking Level Ups with what Esper was equipped, but it would be cool to have some challenge-style, repeat dungeons where one can find things like Strength, Defense, and Magic Seeds. Would reduce the grinding necessary to manipulate stats as well as increasing the hard cap that exists due to limited number of Levels. And let's hope they keep that Cactuar Esper. +2 Speed was actually worth it a bit. Magic was the number one Stat to manipulate, but once you're always hitting 9999 for every hit, Speed was nice to increase.
If Kefka just had some real presence in the seconf half, and a couple little threads were more decisively tied up (Locke and Celes, come on!) it'd be a perfect game.
@@klop4228 It can be argued that Lock and Celes not being tied up neatly was intentional. It's in-line with Locke's character. He has a savior complex toward women in trouble, but then he doesn't ever follow through. The only time he ever did was when you get the Phoenix Esper and he revives Rachel for a moment. That being said, I don't disagree with your comment, lol.

Perhaps it bothered me more on the first playthrough than it would now (especially since I played it right after IX, the game with the best-written positively-ending romance in the series), but it was a think I took umbrage with haha.
Oh and Lufia 2 SNES is ideal for the current assets they are even using for the early DQ HD-2D games! Lufia getting a new life would heal something in my heart i didnt know was hurt lol.
I think 2hdh remake suits ff6 more instead of a ff7r treatment. And personally i think i would have craved it more if ff1-6 had 2dhd instead of a pixel remaster...
Agreed with the cutting of the extra content. With FF4 the pixel remaster cut the after years and interlude, and thus the PSP is still the definitive version. I know that those additions are not so great, but still.

While playing DQ3 HD-2D, I couldn't escape feeling that they should've taken this approach with FF6 to begin with instead of the PR treatment. Glad to hear they may rectify that soon. Maybe we'll finally get Treasure of Rudras one day.
Japanese developers seem to have an odd tendency to leave out update exclusive content in remakes. They did the same with the Persona 3 remake. It feels like more than just a cost cutting measure, and I honestly don't really see the appeal.
They did explicitly say it was a cost-cutting measure with Persona 3- they just weren't given the budget to do both the boy and girl protagonists campaigns, and decided more people would be into the boy's campaign rather than the girls. One can argue whether that was right or not, but there was only ever gonna be one or the other. Though for the Pixel Remasters it does seem like they just weren't interested in the GBA remake additions. The thinking seems to have been that in order for it to be "properly" nostalgic, they should concentrate on remaking the originals and deliberately ignore what came after it. Which really seems to be one of those strange developer quirks, maybe because people who were working on the originals had more nostalgia for those works, they figured they were more "deserving" of a remake, not the changed re-releases.

Yeah that is way scummier- feels like someone either at Sega or Atlus said they could easily make more money by releasing the FES stuff as DLC, and that was all they needed to hear to make it happen. Like, a whole other campaign, that is MULTITUDES more money than just the FES extra content, that I can believe was a budget issue. But the PS2 re-release, that's just them deciding this will make them more money.
The FF with the best music (Terra's theme, Forever Rachel, Celes etc...) and the best dramatic scenes (The beach scene with Celes feeling all is over, the story of Locke and Rachel...). So many years have passed, and yet I remembered perfectly those moments. I really hope that if it's a remake they'll keep those music and those scenes.
FF6, the only rpg I have played through more than once. Not just once, but 6 times. Most of the characters could easily be the main character of a story. As a young teen when I played this game, the character I connected with the most was Cyan. There is something beautiful about the somber tone of FF6's story.
Final Fantasy 6 has the potential to have the best story in the series, if they do a remake of FF6 like they did to FF7, they can add a lot more story content to all the characters. The world building, the characters, and the theme are way ahead of its time, and still is better than a lot of games.
The story updates and cutscenes from the 3D FF4 got cut for pixel remaster as well. We want a DEFINITIVE edition. Honestly they should go in with the assumption that they're competing, not only with previous remakes, but also with the best the hacking community has to offer (which is not insignificant for FF6).
A Romancing SaGa 2 style remake of Chrono Trigger would be amazing and WAY more interesting than just remaking the environments in 3D like a HD2D remake would. Same with Final Fantasy VI tbh. I love HD2D but I want games that weren't pushing the SNES to its limits to get those remakes. Those games like Live-A-Live are what would benefit from a HD2D remake the most. Gives us the Rudras instead!
Would love to see Final Fantasy 4 and 6 remade like Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Be great to see them interact in a cinematic movie type of way with fleshed out stories for all the characters.
Final Fantasy VI is my favorite turn-based or ATB based 16-bit RPG but IMO it doesn't need to be high priority for the HD 2D treatment. If it wasn't in the Pixel remaster collection I would be all for it but the Pixel remaster exists so I don't see a need for another Final Fantasy VI remaster in the near future. IMO Chrono Trigger and tons of lesser known Square-Enix RPGs like Robotrek or games never released in the west should be higher on the priority list.
It's a funny coincidence you bring up Lufia 2 when on a whim I started a replay just last week. 😅 I've been hoping for this type of HD2D remake since the first Octopath came out. I've seen some mockups of FF6 and Chrono Trigger done by fans and it has such potential to look absolutely stunning!
After that director at Square Enix said a FF6 remake would take "20 years" to do properly, I lost hope that this would ever happen. So glad to see they wised up & realized it's not necessary to give it the FF7 Remake treatment! They could even find a happy middle ground & do full CG cutscenes (like modern FF has always done) + voice acting, while making the rest HD-2D.
I never played the mobile version of FF6, but I was under the impression it already sort of had HD2D graphics. Was that just using automated upscaling, similar to using an XBR filter on an emulator? Either way, I definitely like the idea of HD2D releases better than those "pixel remasters" that look like they just re-used the SNES graphics.
Yes something like that, hd but upscaled. Looked rather crappy at times with some blocky glitches on PC at least. I have the steam version of the mobile game version. Still a ok version though and I don't mind that versions character designs and it has more content than the Pixel remaster as far as I know with extra espers and stuff. It doesn't deserve all the hate it gets.
Final Fantasy 6 has and will always hold a special place in my heart 💜 An HD remake is, in my eyes, one of the best ways to bring it back to current generations while preserving its magic and essence :) I hope it happens! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I'm so freaking hyped for this one! My first RPG my cousin got me into and been a fan ever since. This on in particular I really love the storyline and characters. I would also love to see this game get the FF7 remake look as well.
Lufia 1&2 are my personal favourite jrpgs ❤ lufia 2 is absolute gold and I’ll never understand why it was never at the very least ported to newer consoles! It’s crazy!
Its because they want to completely change it like in the DS version where it was turned into an action rpg. All it needs is a facelift and quality of life inprovements like the remake version of Phantasy Star 1.

I would absolutely would be on board for an FFVI HD2D Remake, I love the original after my second playthrough of the game I would absolutely want it but I would prefer it to be Chrono Trigger aswell.
I'd love an HD2D of at least the first two Lufia games (the whole 2D series as a bonus, but at least 1 and 2)! Considering many of the complaints I heard when Curse of the Sinistrals came out was about how it was changed from the game everyone knew and loved...if it could be brought back more like what the older games would be then I'd be happy! I'd love any of the early FF games and Chrono Trigger too! Modern audiences need to see these games at their best.

FFVI is my favorite FF and probably my favorite rpg of all time. HD2D would be cool... but it would be even better if it got the FF7 redo. The story of FFVI is so unbelievably good, it could be a movie or series.
I find it fascinating that Artdink has been making games (a TON of them!) since 1988. But it wasn't until they made Triangle Strategy in 2022 that anyone really cared about them. It took them 34 years to hit their stride, but good on them for making 2 noteworthy games. As long as they stick with HD-2D, I'm along for the ride

3:14 YES!!! Thank you! While the old HD ports were pretty fugly, at least they had the Adavance bonus dungeons. As half-baked as they were, some of the new content was actually quite good, and I appreciated the new challenge they provided or, in the case of Final Fantasy VI, RESTORED! The HD remakes could be patched with the old graphics. Now I wish I grabbed them on Steam when I had the chance. Buying old keys for them is hella expensive. I want that stuff back.
I would definitely love to have a ff6 2hdh but honestly i would rather a full remake. We all know what itll look like in 2dhd and how itll play. But imagine all those locations and enemies in 3d. The intro alone, 3 mechs walkin up to a mining village in the snowy mountains, Zozo, Ultros shenanigans, Atma weapon, floating continent right down to all the sweet abilities. This game honestly needs 2 remakes.
I am completely for a Lufia revival! Also hoping for them to put them on the switch online service, but a remaster would absolutely put me over the moon!

Hd 2d would be the perfect format for ff6, they could keep the turn-based combat exactly the same. Same goes for dq4-6 though that will only be coming out on Switch 2- 4k. Can't wait.
No, thanks. FF6 deserves at least the same treatment as FF7. I know it's a much more ambitious game but they can save a lot of time by NOT deliberately changing the plot so it's impenetrably convoluted.

I think square struck absolute gold in these HD2D games. I love the art style and it lends itself so well to turn based combat.

It's a funny coincidence you bring up Lufia 2 when on a whim I started a replay just last week. 😅 I've been hoping for this type of HD2D remake since the first Octopath came out. I've seen some mockups of FF6 and Chrono Trigger done by fans and it has such potential to look absolutely stunning!
After that director at Square Enix said a FF6 remake would take "20 years" to do properly, I lost hope that this would ever happen.
So glad to see they wised up & realized it's not necessary to give it the FF7 Remake treatment! They could even find a happy middle ground & do full CG cutscenes (like modern FF has always done) + voice acting, while making the rest HD-2D.
Take my money Square Enix! If it happens then it's definitely a day 1 buy from me.

I never played the mobile version of FF6, but I was under the impression it already sort of had HD2D graphics. Was that just using automated upscaling, similar to using an XBR filter on an emulator? Either way, I definitely like the idea of HD2D releases better than those "pixel remasters" that look like they just re-used the SNES graphics.
Yes something like that, hd but upscaled. Looked rather crappy at times with some blocky glitches on PC at least.
I have the steam version of the mobile game version.
Still a ok version though and I don't mind that versions character designs and it has more content than the Pixel remaster as far as I know with extra espers and stuff.
It doesn't deserve all the hate it gets.

I'm so freaking hyped for this one! My first RPG my cousin got me into and been a fan ever since. This on in particular I really love the storyline and characters. I would also love to see this game get the FF7 remake look as well.

Its because they want to completely change it like in the DS version where it was turned into an action rpg. All it needs is a facelift and quality of life inprovements like the remake version of Phantasy Star 1.

And I don’t particularly trust SquareEnix for any remake personally as I hate how they change the battle systems in them.. just a hd2d look and QoL as you said would be perfect to get new fans as it’s such a great game oven today (I understand 1 is verrrry oldschool and isn’t for everyone even if I adore it).

Lufia 2 is an underrated masterpiece. I think a dual remake of the both SNES titles could put Lufia 1 on the same level as Lufia 2.
I would absolutely would be on board for an FFVI HD2D Remake, I love the original after my second playthrough of the game I would absolutely want it but I would prefer it to be Chrono Trigger aswell.

I'd love an HD2D of at least the first two Lufia games (the whole 2D series as a bonus, but at least 1 and 2)! Considering many of the complaints I heard when Curse of the Sinistrals came out was about how it was changed from the game everyone knew and loved...if it could be brought back more like what the older games would be then I'd be happy!
I'd love any of the early FF games and Chrono Trigger too! Modern audiences need to see these games at their best.

A game like FF6 with such an amazing story deserves the 3D treatment. Good story games don't hit the same in this format.
I personally think they should go all the way and make it a beautiful realistic remake, maintaining the same turn-based battle system.

FFVI is my favorite FF and probably my favorite rpg of all time. HD2D would be cool... but it would be even better if it got the FF7 redo. The story of FFVI is so unbelievably good, it could be a movie or series.
I find it fascinating that Artdink has been making games (a TON of them!) since 1988. But it wasn't until they made Triangle Strategy in 2022 that anyone really cared about them. It took them 34 years to hit their stride, but good on them for making 2 noteworthy games. As long as they stick with HD-2D, I'm along for the ride

3:14 YES!!! Thank you! While the old HD ports were pretty fugly, at least they had the Adavance bonus dungeons. As half-baked as they were, some of the new content was actually quite good, and I appreciated the new challenge they provided or, in the case of Final Fantasy VI, RESTORED! The HD remakes could be patched with the old graphics. Now I wish I grabbed them on Steam when I had the chance. Buying old keys for them is hella expensive. I want that stuff back.
I would definitely love to have a ff6 2hdh but honestly i would rather a full remake. We all know what itll look like in 2dhd and how itll play. But imagine all those locations and enemies in 3d. The intro alone, 3 mechs walkin up to a mining village in the snowy mountains, Zozo, Ultros shenanigans, Atma weapon, floating continent right down to all the sweet abilities. This game honestly needs 2 remakes.
An UE5 HD-2D FF9 remake would be an ideal hit for the Switch 2 coming next year.

The GBA extra content SHOULD be integrated into every new update. Either as a Definitive version (or less desirable but ill take it, as DLC)

I just hope they didn't cut the extra content, I think...adding more content for the post game would be even better, but with just leaving the extra content from gba is already enough!

Hd 2d would be the perfect format for ff6, they could keep the turn-based combat exactly the same. Same goes for dq4-6 though that will only be coming out on Switch 2- 4k. Can't wait.
No, thanks. FF6 deserves at least the same treatment as FF7. I know it's a much more ambitious game but they can save a lot of time by NOT deliberately changing the plot so it's impenetrably convoluted.
