    Love your content, but seeing you feature a tool to bot post content on the internet (further contributing to the trash we all are getting when searching online for anything since LLM era) is really sad.

      I can understand, honestly, and I can make justifications claiming that we're all drowning in AI content, might as well promote the ones that are trying to create non-trashy content with real value.
      But then again, I can see both sides... 🤷

    If you want a single combo to clear the terminal, you might find Ctrl-L already configured 😅

      DevOps guy doesn't know basic unix hotkeys? One thing I've learned working in tech is... never trust a devops guy who doesn't run Linux on his own notebook.

      He may have Ctrl-L already bound to another shortcut, e. g. changing panes in tmux/i3/aerospace with the Ctrl + vim keys (hjkl)

      @@omerxx righto, sounds sensible that if you're already tuned to vi movement commands you'd also use them for tmux.

      Ctrl + HJKL have always been mapped as my keys, that's the way I like it, so terminal clear gets other keys. TBH I'm generally using Tmux to do that for me, but I figured I have so many keys around the thumbs why not make use of them...

    I'm curious how you feel about the key feel and quality between the Defy and the Moonlander. Also, is the Moonlander physically larger or smaller? I've noticed the Defy is fairly compact.

    • @devopstoolbox
      @devopstoolbox  4 дні тому

      Great point - the defy is more compact and it feels this way too (in a good way!). People compare it to the Voyager which sadly it I didn't get the chance to test yet.
      The typing experience, given I'm using the same switches, feels BETTER. The keycaps, the size and the overall feel just makes a better typing experience *for me*. And this is important - I'm sure it's individual and YMMV.

    I've been using the Defy since October 2023 and I can't see myself using a different keyboard! I find it surprising you didn't feature layers much more, I love them so much that I have 5 different layers set up, but I only use 3 of them on a daily basis, the other 2 on rare occasions. And I like the thumb-key cluster, but I agree 5 keys aside will do for me as well, don't use all 8 that often. Regarding the built-in tenting mechanism, it's been rock-solid for me, and I travel a couple of times with it.
    That said, I had a few issues with it that are worth sharing. I use the biggest thumb-keys on each side as my dual Ctrl+Enter and Super+Enter, respectively, and the way the thumb hits the key sideways had lead to break the key twice. Also had issues with keys that are placed in the bottom and upper corners (such as Escape and Ctrl in normal keyboards), they got loose and ended up breaking. On the bright side, I've been sent replacements for the broken caps the first time, and the second time they sent me a complete set of keycaps free of charge, which I'm still using.
    One last thing I found annoying is their firmware installation on Linux: it's riddled with bugs. At some point, it was so bad that I stopped trying to install newer versions, but maybe that improved by now, at least I'd like to hope so. And to end on a positive note, they are a super small and dedicated team, with top-notch customer support. I wouldn't change the Defy for anything to be honest.

    I have 2 of these keyboards. I'm horrified I never want to use another keyboard yet... they travel poorly (size reasons in case). The thumb cluster is addicting and now I am convinced every keyboard needs it. I personally love having 2 enter keys and ctrl + alt on the thumbs.

    Nice video. I'm glad you'll be trying the Glove80 in the future. That's what I landed on after my research and it seems to have a lot of the same pros (minus the real time flashless configuration which is cool) and remove some of your cons with the defy. Just remember to use the o rings and nuts when tenting the glove80. Can't wait to see if you find it as enjoyable as I do.

      @devopstoolbox Its not too bad. Similar to Oryx for having a GUI app to set up the configuration, download the config file, put the keyboard in bootloader, copy the config file over and you're set. Not great for those who like to quickly tinker with their config often or quickly though. One thing that saved me a bunch of time was finding the community profiles already shared online so I could copy someone's full layout, tweak it as I want, and then use it. No rebinding every key from scratch for me.

      Glove80 for a year, big downside is the tenting beimg too unstable. 3d printed my own kb holder/tent and it is finally sturdy

    Wow, this keyboard looks amazing! However, I agree that the thumb cluster is a flaw. It seems like Dactyl-like keyboards still have the best thumb cluster design.

    I also have gripes with the connection system. I really don't like how the neuron is required for bluetooth. The system where i want cabled system/charing the keyboard at home, but want to use it wireless when i use it for work (i travel with it all the time). You have to change around your neuron all the time. Not only is it annoying, but it's also gonna wear down the entire neuron over time.
    However the thumb cluster is perfect to me. And i love that you can use a heatmap system of high use being closer than other less used stuff that is just nice to have. i have connection options and battery on the outer thumbs. And i love having options for macros without sacrificing the regular modifier keys i wish to keep there.
    Also why not use CTRL+L for clearing terminal? isn't that as easy?

    • @devopstoolbox

      Yeah I agree with everything !
      Per ctrl l - I've been asked a lot, and Ctrl + HJKL is my arrows since ever :) can't find a good enough reason to move away from that

      They hinted it might happen at some point but also made a great claim as to why they're not doing it so far (being a product that doesn't live on it's battery life and might die some day)

    • @robertcowher
      @robertcowher 6 днів тому

      I recently got the Defy(though the Moonlander was the other serious contender) and I ended up opting for the non-wireless version. I remember seeing in the documentation that the battery lasts less than 24 hours, and it didn't seem worth it to have another thing to have to plug in every day, or need to turn it on and off. If they had one that ran for weeks, then I'd be all for wireless. TLDR; I don't think you're missing much.

      @@devopstoolbox My solution for this on the Voyager is the metal backplate. I have very cheap (like 5 bucks each) magnetic plates with a quarter inch thread so they are mounted on mini tripods (magic arms + clamp) from smallrig. So I have them mounted to the edge of the desk via the clamp and via the magic arm I can have the exact position I want.
