    Hi , sharpening a convexe knife is like sharpening a axe , the edge is the knife vs a little secondary bevel on the regular knives . Thx for your video , i take the bravo 1 original rampless .

    I have a Bark River Bravo 3V steel. It has a convex blade, but for some reason the factory sharpened the last fraction of the outer edge angled instead of convex. I don't know why they did that, but I believe it makes the edge more brittle. I accidentally tapped the edge lightly on a rock surface, and two tiny chips came off.

      Yeah sometimes they come with a slight v edge. I just take mine to water stones and convex them

    Thanks for the wonderful review!!!
    And I think your opinion re: the feel of each blade, is scientific and does count for a lot, IMO!
    I think it is clear-all these blades are superb performers!!!
    But, it will help those to decide which one they want to purchase....first!

    Good review. I really needed to see the gunny side-side w Bravo LT ✅ thanks. I'm on the fence to buy a gunny since I already own an LT

      AB173 the gunny is a great little knife. nice and slicey. If you get one and like the lt I'm sure you won't be disappointed in the gunny.

    Like your review style mate. Honest, Simple to the point. Layman's terms. A couple of questions...... 1. What steel is the gunny in?2. What are your thoughts on the 3V LT since this video?

    • @shane4176
      @shane4176  7 років тому +2

      Damien Haire sorry I just found out I had comments on some of my videos. The gunny was in A2 and I sold the 3v it was horrible to sharpen. I really love Fallkniven's 3g and VG-10. But brkt in A2 is a super good Steel all the way around and I highly recommend it.

      Rice Creek bushcraft What do you use and how do you sharpen these knives?

  • @MotoJunkie23
    @MotoJunkie23 5 років тому +1

    Great video showing the three knives, but they won't stay sharp for long with you banging the edge off other knives like that.
    That clanking sound is like nails on a chalk board

    I batoned my Bravo 1.25 LT 3V carefully through dead hickory a few times, and chopped it into the same wood (dead hickory) the overly thin edge took damage; ever so slightly flattened/chipped, and smushed a very-very tiny bit. The smush isn't damning by any means, but I can see it when I reflect light at the right angle. I connected Bark River about it, and now I await for their reply. It appears to me my knife was over sharpened which more than likely ruined the heat treat in the only spot really doing it which happens to be in the most used portion of the cutting edge. Oh... The edge also curves/swoops very mslightly when it shouldn't; hence the over sharpened assumption, etc. That is the spot having edge issues. Overall I feel the entire knife my have bad edge geometry; thins down to damn near Mora Companion thinness to quickly. Also the knife is listed at 5 inches, but mine measures in at roughly 4.7 inches. I've gone camping twice since I got it through pre-order, and it has let me down both times. The half ass convex is already so thin I'm not sure how to go about fixing it without making it worse. The knife basically from what I can make out needs reprofiled which will need the edge raised leading to an already shorter than advertised knife. A $300+ knife made of convexed 3V should eat through hickory all day long in my mind. Oh well... It's just my luck.

      ambivalent ambiguity it's great Steel and holds a good edge. Unfortunately it is quite hard to sharpen.

    Awesome, have tried a puukko knife from varusteleka.com from Finland, terava jaakaripukko 110mm or 140mm, 100 is 4.5 inch blade an the 140 is what have is 5.5 Inches long an full tang with a rubber over molded handle, scandi grind blade with a drop point style an stout tip, they are 80crv2 carbon steel, razor sharp.
